“State of the City” Luncheon
On Monday September 30, 2013 the Wellington Chamber of Commerce had its monthly luncheon at the Wanderers Club in Wellington, Florida. Peter Robinson of the Wellington Greenmarket was the sponsor of the event and due to this, the room was made festive with green and white table cloths.
Peter Robinson announced that the Wellington Greenmarket will start up again on Saturday, November 9th and it will be held every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm at the WellingtonMunicipalBuilding grounds. He said that the Greenmarket was launched three years ago and that he was inspired to create his market from the green markets he visited in California. He further added that the idea behind the Wellington Greenmarket is to allow only growers and venders – no resellers.
The key-note speaker, Wellington Mayor Bob Margolis, presented the “State of the City.” He noted Wellington’s budget has remained the same this year as it was last year. He gave accolades to his staff for achieving that goal. Furthermore, Margolis stated that the city recently added officers to the PBSO. He said, “It’s not that we need it but public safety is number one for me as a mayor and resident.”
Margolis mentioned that the city gave $265,000 to Wellington schools to use where they felt it is needed. He added that property values are going up and homes are selling more quickly than in the recent past. Transitional neighborhoods have created neighborhood watches to reduce crime and the amphitheatre has been a success as large crowds of people go there to watch shows. He also assured everyone he has experts monitoring the water levels in order to avoid future flooding.
In conclusion, Margolis said, “We’re in a good position for the future.”
