The Village of Wellington Education Committee Impressed with Keely Spinelli Grant Results
In July of 2013, the Village of Wellington Council pledged their commitment to education by offering financial assistance to Wellington’s public schools. The Keely Spinelli grant offers additional support to all eleven Wellington public schools whose students fall within the lowest 25% in reading and/or math and can be used to provide programs, instructional materials and/or equipment to supplement the school curriculum.
On August 14, 2014 each grant recipient provided a summary to the Education Committee outlining their progress over the last academic year and highlighting their individual successes.
Based on the summaries, approximately 1,154 students received additional support in reading and over three hundred received assistance in math. Of the students receiving additional reading support, 73% achieved growth and of the students receiving additional math support, 83% achieved growth.
Education Committee Chair, Marcia Hayden states, “these improvements by our students have been the direct result of the Village of Wellington’s commitment to the education of its children.”
Committee Member Michelle McGovern stated “through these one-of-a-kind grants, the Village of Wellington, its leaders and its residents demonstrated their unwavering commitment to ensuring that ALL of the Village’s public schools remain among the highest performing in Palm Beach County.”
