2015 FEAST OF THE SEA CELEBRITY CHEF CHALLENGE SERIES –

Semifinal #4 at Williams-Sonoma in The Gardens Mall

 

The last stop of the semifinal round of the 2015 Feast of the Sea Maestro del Mar Chef Challenge series will be held at The Gardens Mall. This series showcases the best culinary talent that Palm Beach County has to offer. Presented by the Arts & Entertainment District of West Palm Beach, semifinal #4 will be held on September 27, 2015, at Williams-Sonoma in The Gardens Mall. The four celebrity chefs that will be competing are Executive Chef Adam Brown from The Cooper Craft Kitchen & Bar, Executive Chef Eric Grutka representing Ian’s Tropical Grill, Executive Chef Sean Collins from Brio Tuscan Grille in The Gardens Mall, and Executive Chef Michael Molloy from the new deep blu Seafood Grille in the Wyndham Grand Jupiter at Harbourside Place.

The chefs will compete in an Ultimate Chef Showdown to find the next Maestro del Mar finalist advancing to the Grand Tasting Finale on October 23, 2015. Each chef will have 60 minutes to create a dish for the judges. The dishes will feature an unknown mystery ingredient prepared with pantry items provided by Whole Foods Market in West Palm Beach, which include fresh produce, baked goods, and grocery items.

Executive Chef Fritz Cassel won semifinal #1 with his dish of quinoa-crusted smoked tuna with smoked mushrooms and charred asparagus. The secret ingredient was tuna. The winner of semifinal #2 was Chef Clay Carnes presenting his pan-roasted spiced salmon with passion fruit vinaigrette and a shaved fresh vegetable salad. Moving on from semifinal #3, Executive Chef Blake Malatesta from 50 Ocean, wowed the judges with his Asian spoon snapper dishes, including Himalayan salt-cured snapper with a cabbage dill remoulade (served with Spiny Tail Pale Ale); harissa-marinated snapper with spiced German potato salad (served with Screamin’ Reels IPA); and snapper ceviche with avocado yuzu and nectarine (served with guava pineapple IPA).

Guest judges include John Wash, president of the International Polo Club Palm Beach, Jan Norris, elite food critic and editor of Florida Food & Farm, and 2015 Ms. United States Celine Pelofi who is pursuing a dietetics and nutrition degree.

Limited general admission tickets are $35 and include hors d’oeuvres prepared by our featured chefs, refreshing beverages, a commemorative catalog, and a commemorative glass.
