FAU Wilkes Honors College Announces ‘Starry Nights’ Acclaimed Author Series Featuring Joyce Carol Oates

JUPITER, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2022) – Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter will host an acclaimed author series titled “Starry Nights,” featuring readings from some of today’s brightest literary stars, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The “Starry Nights” series will provide guests the opportunity to hear distinguished authors speak about their lives, books, publications, inspirations, and participate in an interactive Q&A session. A book signing will follow the program. Advanced registration is required.

Events will take place in-person at the FAU John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:

  • Jan. 26, Leslie Gray Streeter, veteran journalist, speaker and author of “Black Widow: A Sad-Funny Journey Through Grief for People Who Normally Avoid Books with Words Like ‘Journey’ in the Title.” Her work has been featured in the Miami Herald, Washington Post, O, The Oprah Magazine, TODAY show and more.
  • Feb. 16, Patricia Engel, American writer and author of “Infinite Country,” a New York Times bestseller, Reese’s Book Club pick, Esquire Book Club, Amazon Best Book of the Month, and more.
  • March 2, Ayse Papatya Bucak, author of “The Trojan War Museum,” her debut story collection influenced by her Turkish-American heritage, and contributing editor for Copper Nickel.

And special guest speaker:

  • April 1, Joyce Carol Oates, versatile and accomplished American writer who is best known for her fiction novels including “them,” which won the National Book Award; “Blonde,” a bold reimagining of the inner life of Marilyn Monroe; “The Falls,” which won the France’s Prix Femina; and “We Were the Mulvaneys,” which became a bestseller after being selected by Oprah’s Book Club. She is the Roger S. Berlind Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at Princeton University, and since 1978, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
