Sweet Corn Fiesta Adapts to Offer Drive Through
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — What would have been the 20th annual South Florida Sweet Corn Fiesta this Sunday has now become a “drive through” event due to restrictions pertaining to COVID-19. From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, fiesta organizers will be offering bags and crates of locally grown ears of corn via a drive through system.
The cost is $15 for a crate, which holds between 45-48 ears of corn, and $2 for a bag of six ears of corn.
“This certainly isn’t what we had envisioned for our 20th annual Sweet Corn Fiesta but we’re happy we’ve found a way for our farmers to still get their fresh, sweet corn into the hands of those who enjoy it,” said event organizer Ann Holt. “This fiesta corn was grown especially for the event.”
The only way to obtain the corn is by driving to gate 5 at the South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd. Everyone must stay in his/her vehicle. The corn will be loaded by volunteers into the vehicles. They will be exercising all safety precautions.
The South Florida Sweet Corn Fiesta, which celebrates Palm Beach County’s heritage as the “Sweet Corn Capital of the World,” is presented by the Western Palm Beach County Farm Bureau and hosted by the South Florida Fair. Palm Beach County grows more sweet corn than any other county in the US. Local farmers cultivate more than 27,000 acres yearly.
