LIVING IN A WORLD OF PURE IMAGINATION–TAILGATES ARE THE “SCENE” AT THE GAY POLO TOURNAMENT 

Wellington, FL–Colors, festivity, jubilation and revelers! The tailgate scene is a typical pre-game activity to a sports event– yet for GPL it is a kaleidoscope reflective of the GPL celebration. The ­Lexus International Gay Polo Tournament ­- Presented by Douglas Elliman Real Estate will be no exception. Each year, tailgate holders brilliantly decorate their tailgate spaces and everyone is encouraged to compete in the Celebrity Cruises’ Tailgate Competition. Creative ideas are masterminded months in advance to consider themed décor, furnishings, vibe, food and beverage and the anticipation builds. The gameday gates open at noon, champagne pops and the party begins.

Participants flock to their friends’ tailgates with coolers of food, libations, props, hats, attitude and energy to party. Throughout the matches, the tailgates are a rousing element to the spirit of the day. In the past, noteworthy themes have included: Gert’s 1950’s Beauty Salon complete with a champagne shampoo sink; God Save the Queens including a double-decker English bus; Fairy Garden with fairies, nymphs and mermaids flitting about; Blush and Bashful from Steel Magnolias serving up a red-velvet armadillo cake; Grey Gardens starring “in character” Big Edie and Little Edie; GPL Yacht Club highlighting sailors upon sailors aplenty; Brunch at Tiffany’s abundant with blue boxes and pearls galore; and, the Wizard of Oz tailgate featuring poppies the size of basketballs. It is a whimsical, wonderful and spectacular show for the senses. While the ponies gallop down the field toward the goal posts, merry makers strut their stuff throughout out the tipsy tailgates–it is an Instagram dream come true.

 

Celebrity Cruises is sponsoring the world-famous GPL Tailgate Competition to crown the most unique and creative tailgate as Best in Show.
