THE PALM BEACH COUNTY FOOD BANK ANNOUNCES TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Stephen Basore and John Fumero Join Food Bank’s Board of Directors
(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) – The Palm Beach County Food Bank, a non-profit organization which provides access to nutritious food for children, families and seniors in our community, has announced that Stephen Basore and John Fumero have joined its Board of Directors.
“We welcome Stephen and John to the Palm Beach County Food Bank’s Board of Directors,” said Marti LaTour, Board Chair for the Food Bank. “These respected business leaders have extensive leadership experience and are active participants in the community. Their expertise in their respective fields, including food nutrition and agriculture, will be assets to our Board and the overall success and future of the Palm Beach County Food Bank.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Palm Beach County Food Bank now has more than doubled its food distribution efforts as more people are left without jobs and income. Typically, the Food Bank procures more than 5 million pounds of food annually from grocery stores, restaurants, food distributors, wholesalers and other sources, and provides it to almost 200 local community partners and programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens and residential housing programs. In June 2020 alone, the Palm Beach County Food Bank distributed 2,713,048 pounds of food.
Stephen Basore, a resident of Wellington, is a Principal Owner of TKM Bengard Farms, LLC., the largest lettuce grower east of the Mississippi, located in Belle Glade. Basore is a graduate from the Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources and sat on the Board of its Alumni Association from 2006 to 2016, serving as President from 2012 to 2014. He has been a member of the Palm Beach County Agricultural Enhancement Council since 2012 and has been the Chairman since 2019. His past involvement includes Leadership Palm Beach County 2019, co-chair of the 2018 and 2019 Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County Mayor’s Ball and chair of the Florida Lettuce Advisory Committee from 2008 to 2018.
John Fumero, a resident of Delray Beach, is a Partner at Nason, Yeager Gerson, Harris & Fumero, P.A. He has over 30 years of experience in the practice of real estate, land-use, environmental, and governmental law. Fumero provides strategic counsel to local governments, landowners, developers, agriculture and utilities. He received his bachelor’s in business administration degree from the University of Miami, a juris doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law. His past community leadership involvement includes the Boards of Leadership Palm Beach County, the Forum Club, ASPIRA Hispanic Youth Outreach and the American Lung Association of Southeast Florida.
The Palm Beach County Food Bank’s executive Board includes James Greco, Interim Executive Director; Marti LaTour, Board Chair; Bill Kramer, Treasurer; Mark Busse, Secretary; Debbie Pucillo, Capital Campaign Chair and Laura Russell, Development Chair. Other Board members includeBilly Himmelrich, Rev. Kimberly Still and Rev. Dr. Cecily Titcomb.
The Food Bank’s continued focus during this time is feeding the growing number of hungry neighbors and finalizing its fundraising for the Food Bank’s new facility to ensure future growth to keep up with the increased need.
