YWCA “Run for the Roses” Tea

The singing of “My Old Kentucky Home, along with a swig of Mint Julip opened this year’s YWCA “Run for the Roses” Pre-Derby Tea for the more than 100 women in attendance. Held annually at the Chesterfield, the tea brought guests with chapeaus decorated in bows, feathers, ribbons and flowers of splashing color and unique design. Win, Place and Show honors went to Margaret Donnelly, Mamie Kizner and Bonnie Roseman. Silver mint julep cups filled with red roses adorned the guest tables along with a red rose chocolate lollipop for each guest. Local vocalist Monique McCall provided lively entertainment engaging an array of voices from the audience. Prior to the tea was a champagne reception including tea cup and silent auctions.
Among the guests were the Honorable Danielle Moore, Hope Barron, Sheila Carnicelli, Nan Gallagher, Arlette Gordon, Suzanne Holmes, Tammy Pompea, Karen Swanson, and Teri Wolofsky.
Paula Wittmann served as Honorary Chair; Phyllis Verducci and Linda Wartow were Co-Chairs. Committee members were; Jane Bloom, Rosemary Bronstien, Margaret Donnelley, Bobbi Horwich, Theresa LePore, Nancy Marshall, Peggy McClelland, Joyce McLendon, Susan Rothman, Bernadette Shalhoub, Bobbi Shorr, Maria Siemon, Chelly Templeton, Barbara Benson Wymer Giselle Weisman and Maggie Zeller.
Proceeds of the tea go to the operation of the YWCA and its programs for domestic violence survivors and youth.
