About Mayacoo Country Club – the first golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus!

More than 40 years ago a group of young Palm Beach business leaders teamed up with Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead to create a truly great golf course in West Palm Beach.  Mayacoo is where 18 distinctive challenges await players of every skill level.  Here is where brute strength gives way to shot making and course management and you hone your game to its finest edge. The course’s design incorporates both challenge and playability for every skill level.  Mayacoo Lakes was the first effort for Jack Nicklaus and many believe it was his best.

Mayacoo is an 18-hole course that opened in December 1972. The course was restored to its original design and reopened in December 2007 under the watchful eye of Kipp Schulties. The re-mastered course won the coveted 2008 Golf Digest ” America’s Best New Courses-Best New Remodeled Category” Award. A par 71 6,906 yard layout is surrounded by a forest of slash pines, palms and lush vegetation indigenous to South Florida. The beauty of the course stands in its own splendor. Carpet like fairways and manicured greens provide the gateway to some of the most memorable and challenging holes of golf you will find anywhere.   The Clubhouse at Mayacoo Lakes is the center of social activity, offering fine dining in a casually elegant setting.  Facilities include the main dining room, grill room, lounge and an outdoor patio area overlooking the manicured practice facility.

About Young Singers of the Palm Beaches

Young Singers of the Palm Beaches was established by several music educators in Palm Beach County, including Shawn Berry, Michael Yannette and Connie Drosakis. Each of these founders has extensive experience in music for the young voice, and enjoys local and national recognition for their accomplishments. They envisioned a children’s choral organization that would not be constrained by school boundaries, religious affiliations, racial bias, socio-economic barriers, or funding cuts to arts education.

This dream was realized during the summer of 2003. Our first choir season began with 79 singers, in grades 4 through 12, assigned by grade level and ability to 2 choirs. In a decade, Young Singers has grown from this grassroots concept to a viable force in the choral community. We have performed locally, nationally, and internationally. We are in our 11th year as Palm Beach County’s premiere community-based children’s choir, based at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, with approximately 350 singers, in grades 3 through 12, from all parts of Palm Beach County.

In addition to our self-produced Holiday and Spring Concerts, which are held on the main stage of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, YSPB has also performed locally at the Eissey Theatre, the Flagler Museum, the Borland Center, the Harriet Himmel Theatre, CityPlace, the Preservation Foundation in Palm Beach, nursing homes, libraries, museums and more.

On tour nationally, our children have performed in Boston in the National Festival of the States; in New York City on the stage of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in the National Festival Children’s Chorus, at The Pacific International Chorus Festival in Eugene, Oregon; and at a cultural exchange in the American Southwest with Native American Tribes.
