Golfing for educational scholarships
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — To raise money for scholarships, the South Florida Fair’s John Picano, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament is moving forward on Friday, Sept. 18, at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, 9697 Mayacoo Club Dr. Loaded with golf, gifts, prizes, food and fun, registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The cost to participate is $275 for a single player and $1,000 for a foursome. All proceeds will benefit the South Florida Fair Scholarship Fund, which has raised more than $650,000 in college scholarships for local youth since 1981. The outing will provide gifts for all participants including Footjoy golf shoes and two admission tickets to the 2021 South Florida Fair, on course contests, course refreshments, breakfast and an awards lunch. Proper golf attire is required.
The golf tournament is named in memory of John Picano, Jr., who served as the South Florida Fair’s public relations director for almost two decades. Prior to his passing in 2012, he was an avid golfer and was instrumental in the growth and success of the fair’s golf tournament.
“John’s memory will live on through our annual golf tournament, which provides scholarships to area students who might not otherwise be able to attend college,” said Vicki Chouris, the fair’s president and CEO.
In compliance with the Club’s CDC safety and social distancing guidelines, cart use includes one cart per player unless masks are worn or players who live in the same household. Space is limited; register early.
