And the Next Generation Takes Over

By Stephanie Courtois

It has been a wonderful 14 months. I will always remember sitting down in front of my laptop and wondering what the next Teen Talk article would be.

My fingers tapped the keyboard and magic happened. The words appeared on the screen as the story played in my head. As the last sentence was written, a sense of true triumph enveloped me. It was one of the best opportunities that I was fortunate enough to experience.

This year I have taken on many new challenges and endeavors that have led me to this conclusion. With senior year taking full swing, my time has been partitioned. I have soaked up all of the knowledge and skills that Krista Martinelli has offered me. Being a columnist and an intern has opened doors for me that made me realize that journalism was my passion and my goal. If it weren’t for this, turning my school newspaper into an online news site wouldn’t have run as smoothly. I want to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her support and encouragement this past year.

That being said, this article is my last contribution to the Around Wellington community. As the 2011 year comes to a close, January of 2012 will be born. A new writer with new ideas will join this amazing staff and learn all that it has to offer. And so the next generation takes over. I hope that he or she appreciates how lucky they are to gain this knowledge at such an early stage of their life and what advantages it will bring them.

Some may think that it is too early to be writing an article like this. There is still much time until graduation. I made this choice because I have gotten all that I could from this position and it’s time for another teen to reflect their views in this column. Now, I take on the grand responsibility of running a website based on the skills that I have apprehended from Krista.

I hope that all the readers of Around Wellington have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. My one piece of wisdom that I wish to give to those that have followed my column: if you know what you want, be fearless and go for it.

Editor’s Note: A big thanks to Stephanie for her help as an intern over the past year and her awesome “Teen Talk” articles!  She’s doing a terrific job as the Editor-in-Chief at the Wellington Wave, Wellington High School’s online newspaper.  And a warm welcome to our next “Teen Talk” writer Jessica Small.  Jessica is also our fabulous current intern!  She is also the Sports Editor at the Wellington Wave.
