February, 2011

Dear Around Wellington Readers,

Happy February and Happy Valentine’s Day!krista-joe-tree2

We have quite a few articles that touch upon themes of Valentine’s, romance and sweet things to do!  If you’re willing to travel and make it an extra-sweet Valentine’s Day, check out “Travel with Terri” this month.  From Chicago Chocolate Tours to Max Brenner’s Chocolate Restaurant in NYC to chocolate-covered February in Hershey, PA – Terri Marshall gives us the full decadent chocolate report. And she should know, since she is also the chocolate expert over at Examiner.com.

Speaking of chocolate, our “Visiting Vet” Stephanie Karpf discusses the potential problems for dogs that occur when they accidentally get into a box of chocolates. Do you know which chocolate is more toxic and which chocolate is milder for them?  To understand more of the toxic chocolate issue, read her “Creature Feature” this month.

For some people, roses are the best gift on Valentine’s Day. However, our advice columnist Dr. Z responds to one woman who just doesn’t care for roses. She has some wise words for the “Rose Rebel,” which might come in handy for any couple who has trouble knowing how to communicate better and understand each other’s needs better.

In our “AW Spotlight” story, we feature Family Medical and Wellness Center, which includes the terrific team of Dr. Lesley Glover, Dr. Vanessa Vizcaino and Heather Loguidice, ARNP. What’s new in the world of Family Medical and Wellness Center? First is the addition of Heather Loguidice, who has been a great help to patients and a great fit for their team. Second is their new, more convenient location – in one of the professional offices right behind Wellington Regional Medical Center. By the way, Dr. Vizcaino takes a turn at writing “Ask the Docs” this month and gives some excellent advice on the subject of sexual dysfunction in men and women…just in time for Valentine’s Day.

This month Wendell Abern in “Cantankerously Yours” takes us on a trip down a memory lane of Jewish humor and linguistics, as he delves into “Hebonics” (Jewish English). In this funny and original piece, he reminds us of the roots of Jewish humor and what makes Jewish comedians sometimes so extra funny.

Hey Parents!  Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone keep track of which restaurants offer “Kids Eat Free” nights around Wellington and Royal Palm Beach?  Local Mom Shawn Thompson has been doing just that for us in “Kids’ Corner” and updating it each month. Check it out and save, save, save!!!

When reading “Lighten Up with Lisa” I continue to learn new things and to get inspiration. This month she introduces a concept which was new to me, Munay-Ki, which means “Love Energy.”  It’s a method of healing and of communication; Lisa Dawn Wax shares it with us as her Valentine’s gift to our readers.

Thanks to Jathy Garcia in “Living Green” this month, we have a great list of “Top Green Bathroom Tips for 2011.” These are excellent ideas for your own health and for the overall health of our environment, including a “recipe for non-toxic bathtub cleaner.”

I love our “Teen Talk” writer’s column this month – “Roses are Red, Money is Green.” Stephanie Courtois, who seems wise beyond her years, gives us a nice dose of reality, as well as a beautiful message when it comes to gift-giving on Valentine’s Day.

Don’t forget to enter our easy Contest, which runs from Feb. 1st – 10th! The winner will receive a one-hour massage at Massage Envy in Royal Palm Beach!

Thanks to our AroundWellington® writers who make every month so special!  I can never cover enough ground in these letters from the editor, so just consider it a starting point…with so much more good content to explore.  And thanks to you, our readers, for your valuable input!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!  Hope it’s a sweet one!  THANKS again to our intern Damon Webb for all of his hard work on helping with this February issue. And thanks to my husband (pictured above with me…in an old photo), who helps so much each month – with accounting, HTML and other jobs that I am not well-suited for.  That’s why we are a great pair!  Isn’t it romantic?

Cheers,
