Wellington Garden Club March Meeting Announcement

The wellington Garden Club will meet on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd. , with a business meeting at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:30 and a program at 12:15 presented by Mike Cartrett.

Mr. Cartrett’s program, “Bonsai-an Art, Hobby and Horticultural Practice,” will explore an art form originating many centuries ago in Asia . Bonsai, in Japanese, can be literally translated as “tray planting” and has developed into a whole new art form. It is the art of dwarfing trees or plants and developing them into an aesthetically appealing shape by growing, pruning and training them in containers according to prescribed techniques. A successful Bonsai is most definitely a horticultural masterpiece. Mr. Cartrett is an artist, teacher and nurseryman who has been owner of a wholesale Bonsai nursery for over 20 years. He has been a lecturer and teacher in Bonsai conventions all over the United States and this is a great opportunity to learn about this growing, living art form.

Guests are welcome and there is no admission fee, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat, please RSVP to Jayne at 561-791-0273.
