(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) Education is at the core of Hanley Center Foundation’s recently expanded mission and to celebrate the Foundation’s new era, it will serve as presenting sponsor for the 2016 Dwyer Awards to be held on Thursday, April 21 at the Kravis Center. According to Foundation CEO Kae Jonsons, supporting the Education Foundation and Economic Council’s 32nd annual Dwyer Awards is right in line with the Hanley Center Foundation’s local efforts to inform school-age students, parents and caregivers about ways to prevent substance abuse in communities across the state of Florida.

The William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education was established in 1985 to honor outstanding educators from public and private schools in Palm Beach County. Teachers from across the county are nominated by their peers at individual schools in one of five categories: Elementary Education, Middle School, Senior High, Special Programs and Career Education. A sixth category, STEM Education, was added to the 2016 Awards.

“Education is so important,” said Jonsons. “Our team at Hanley Center Foundation believes that educating our community about the dangers of substance abuse is critical to preventing tragic outcomes. Our prevention specialists are out speaking with school-age children, parents, caregivers and teachers everyday so we can raise awareness about this important topic. We value the partnerships we share with our educators, who we know are working so hard to make an impact. It is an honor to support the Dwyer Awards as the presenting sponsor, as we truly believe education is the foundation for future successes in all avenues.”

In addition to prevention education programs for schools, churches and other organizations, Hanley Center Foundation is also launching a series of substance abuse symposia which will take place for several days in April, May and June. The series will be open to the public and will also provide CEU credits to professionals who attend.

Established in 2005, Hanley Center Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to give hope to individuals, families and communities affected by alcoholism and drug addiction through access to high quality treatment, education, family support and community prevention programs. In 2015, the Foundation took steps to expand its mission and it now has a more comprehensive opportunity to help those who could not otherwise afford the hope that comes with recovery. Other funding now gives the prevention and education teams the opportunity to work with even more school-age children, adults and caregivers throughout Florida to prevent substance abuse.
