Fifth Graders Hope Sohn (L) and Olivia Bomar Learn to Create Own Clothes with ArtStart’s Jeannette Pomeroy Parssi
Working with ArtStart’s Jeannette Pomeroy Parssi, Wellington 5th graders Hope Sohn (L) and Olivia Bomar learned to read a pattern, cut fabric and work on a sewing machine to create their very own new clothes. “The girls did a great job,” said Parssi, “and they did it all themselves – from adding the ruffles and zippers to doing all of the finishing work. I think they both look great!” Two other ArtStart students, preparing for the auditions at Bak Middle School of the Arts, used the sewing machine to create their 3-D works of art for their portfolios, “and when these girls heard about it, they wanted to try their hand at sewing,” added Parssi, who said ArtStart is now offering sewing classes to anyone who wants to learn, regardless of age or ability. Parssi has been sewing since she was a young girl herself, and has taught her own daughters the craft. Contact ArtStart at 561-635-2037 for more information.
