MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE ANNOUNCES
LOCAL STUDENT AUDITIONS FOR THE WIZ
The Theatre is seeking a diverse cast, ages 12-21, for its upcoming musical
June 3, 2014 (Jupiter) – The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is welcoming local students to take their First Step to Stardom at Cityplace in West Palm Beach!
The Theatre will host public student auditions for its professional production of the musical The Wiz on Sunday, June 15, at the Palm Beach Improv at Cityplace, located at 550 South Rosemary Ave., Ste. 250. Auditions are open to students ages 12-21 and will take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Callbacks will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and participants should be prepared to dance.
“We are committed to making sure the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s professional production of The Wiz creates opportunities for everyone in our community,” said Andrew Kato, the Theatre’s producing artistic director. “We are delighted to be inviting local families of all ethnicities to take part in this fun-filled, exciting professional musical.”
During the audition, participants will perform a song of their choice and must bring either a Karaoke CD or sheet music. An accompanist will be present. Students will learn a dance routine only if they are called back, and they are asked to wear dance clothing and dance shoes or sneakers (no sandals or open-toed shoes).
“We’re hoping to bring new families to the Maltz Jupiter Theatre,” said Jennifer Sardone-Shiner, the Theatre’s director of marketing. “Whether you sing in a church choir, at school or at home, we are looking for students who want to have a wonderful experience performing in a professional theatre production.”
With performances that will take place January 13 – February 1, The Wiz invites theatergoers to ease on down the road with the spirited rock gospel and soul musical based on the beloved classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dorothy and her lovable friends embark on an adventure to Oz looking for her way home, but discover so much more in this imaginative production. This Tony Award®-winning family friendly musical features the hits “Home” and “A Brand New Day.” The production is sponsored by the John McDonald Company.
