South Florida Science Center and Aquarium announces next ‘Science on Tap’ – Laws of Attraction: The Science of Sex Appeal
(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) Science is sexy, according to leadership at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, and it will prove this hypothesis at the next Science on Tap event, Laws of Attraction: The Science of Sex Appeal. To be held again at O’Shea’s Irish Pub in West Palm Beach, guests are invited to ‘drink up – get smart’ while taking some cues from guest speaker Dr. Jason Carter, board certified sexologist. Dr. Carter will dish on how chemistry is part of the equation – detailing why the flip of someone’s hair or bat of an eyelash can be the start of something more. Starting at 8 p.m. on July 24, guests will leave with tips and tricks to attract a potential mate.
“Our first two Science on Tap events were very well received,” said Kate Arrizza, Science Center COO. “And we know that ‘Laws of Attraction’ will be another big draw. The science behind sexual attraction is stimulating and provocative, and we look forward to Dr. Carter’s real-world anecdotes. As we continue to live our mission to ‘open every mind to science,’ we are pleased with the enthusiasm surrounding Science on Tap. The program is expanding our reach in the community, with practical and interesting topics from world-class scientists!”
Modeled after “Science Cafés,” a trend sweeping pubs throughout the country, the Science Center’s ‘Science on Tap’ is the first registered Science Café between Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale. According to Arrizza, it will be the only place in Palm Beach County where for the price of a cup of coffee, a quality craft beer, or a smooth glass of wine, anyone can come to discuss the latest trends in science and technology with a world-class scientist. With a motto to ‘drink up – get smart,’ you know you are in for a casual-education session, as the goal of the program is for guests to have fun while learning a little bit more about everyday curiosities.
While offering up scientific secrets to snag a mate, Dr. Carter will indulge the crowd with plenty of racy and behind-the-scenes stories. He has devoted his life’s work to sexology – working, studying and volunteering his time to be the supreme expert in the matter. He received a Ph.D from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists, with a focus on the study of sexual deviance; his master’s degree in marriage and family from Nova Southeastern University; and his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Carter maintains several professional affiliations, including the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, among others.
‘Science on Tap’ is a free event, and patrons can enjoy O’Shea’s happy hour specials, which include $1 off well drinks, $3 draft beers, $4 bottle beers and $3 Irish Car Bomb drinks (starting at 7 p.m.). ‘Science on Tap’ is being co-sponsored by the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority.
The next in the series will speak (or bark) to those that consider themselves a dog-lover, synonymous to pet-parent, dog-enthusiasts or fur-baby mommy or daddy. Taking place on Thursday, September 11 at 8 p.m. at O’Shea’s Irish Pub, Dr. Lisa Radosta, a board certified veterinary behaviorist, will deconstruct the assumptions, myths and mysteries surrounding our canine companions, including the science behind a variety of dog traits, such as body language, emotions and general intelligence.
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, recently named the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ nonprofit of the year, features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit.
