DODGING CANCER FUNDRAISING EVENT TO  INCLUDE HALFTIME SHOW

FEATURING  INTERNATIONAL RECORDING ARTIST

WELLINGTON, FL – The Palm Beach Central High School Interact Club will host  the “3rd Annual Cody’s Angels Dodging Cancer Tournament” on Friday, March 6th at 6:00 pm in the school gymnasium, to benefit the local charity “Cody’s Angels”.  Admission fees are $5.00. Funds will be used to help the club create awareness and raise funds for patients afflicted with Ewing’s Sarcoma.  The event is in honor of former student Cody Meiers, who died of this rare cancer in 2012. Cody’s Angels, headed by Cody’s father, John Meiers, now assists other families struggling with other costs incurred when a child is undergoing cancer treatment.   This year’s event is special as it includes a halftime performance by music recording artist, Alexander Star. The halftime show marks the launch of a collaborative effort between Wellington-based nonprofit Dream Sponsors Inc., The Amani Hope Foundation and AFR Clothing.

The Interact Club has supported both Dream Sponsors and Cody’s Angels through various awareness and fundraising efforts in the past. This year’s tournament is a first in bringing both charities together, under one roof, to create awareness and raise funds for their missions. Dream Sponsors’ mission is to provide basic needs and school fees to orphans and vulnerable youth in Africa. For the past 6 years, the Interact Club has raised sponsorship fees for Elizabeth, an orphan girl who lives in a poor village in rural Western Kenya. Dream Sponsors is spearheading the halftime collaboration to include The Amani Hope Foundation, a nonprofit that uses music and fashion as a vehicle for positive change. Alexander Star is a Board Member of the Amani Hope Foundation and the Chief Brand Ambassador for AFR Clothing, “We are young people who play major roles in changing this world for the better, and through the Amani Hope Tour we are able to inspire student leaders to stand up and do the same,” he explains. Star is looking forward to his special performance in memory of Cody Meiers and will also sing the hit theme song “This Is My Era” which is making waves across schools and on social media under the hashtag #thisismyera. Star says this about the music he writes and performs, “People listen to music because it makes them feel something.  If I’m gonna make people feel something, I want it to be good.”

The dodgeball tournament pits Palm Beach Central High School teachers and administrators against students and offers a fun filled battle for participants and spectators alike. Last year nearly 16 teams competed. Entry fees and team registration fees will benefit Cody’s Angels, while a portion of AFR clothing sales and some African craft sales will benefit Dream Sponsors child, Elizabeth.  Don’t miss the fun and the chance to inspire your own children and youth  to fulfill dreams during this very special event.  Tickets are available at the school, located at 8499 West Forest Hill Blvd., Wellington, FL 33414.  Checks for donations will also be accepted in advance or during the event and can be made payable to Palm Beach Central Interact Club.  For more information contact Rosemary Antonacci, Interact Faculty Advisor at (561) 433-7980 or email her at rosemary.antonacci@palmbeachschools.org.
