West Palm Beach, FL – April 20, 2021) Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will be hosting 27 amazing al fresco events in May for people of all ages, including celebrating National Public Gardens Week (May 7-16), participating with the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s award-winning MOSAIC program, and launching a month-long membership campaign offering two complimentary event passes with every new membership card.

“While the diminishing COVID-19 pandemic still continues to limit indoor events, outdoor activities in Palm Beach County’s oldest and largest botanical garden are still available for socially-distant mask-wearers of all ages,” says Mounts Curator-Director  Rochelle Wolberg

Capturing the Garden in Watercolor Workshop

Tuesdays, 10 am to 11:30 am

Four-Day Workshop Fee: $150 for members; $190 for nonmembers

(Registration is required; class size is limited; includes full Garden admission)

Explore MBG’s unique display gardens and find inspiration to paint on location! This weekly workshop will cover various watercolor techniques, color mixing, and how to capture a sense of place. Artists at all levels are welcome. Classes will be led by artist/instructor Marilyn Walter.

Qi Gong

Wednesdays, 10 am to 11 am

$10 per class for members; $25 per class for nonmembers

(Registration is required; class size is limited; includes full Garden admission)

Relieve stress and increase your metabolism, flexibility and strength. Qi Gong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique. The exercises include simple, slow movements (which mimic nature), meditation and focused breathing — similar to Tai Chi. Each class is limited to the first 10-15 people to register. Classes will be led by Roxanne Cumberland.

Gentle Yoga

Thursdays, 9:30 am to 10:15 am

This Gentle Yoga flow class incorporates balance and flexibility movements with a relaxing meditation at the end of the class. Yoga can help improve mental and physical well-being by increasing body awareness, relieving anxiety, decreasing stress, relaxing the mind, sharpening concentration, and increasing flexibility. Classes are led by certified fitness/yoga instructor Hegina Rodrigues.

Art in the Garden Drawing Class

Be inspired by nature. Experience the Garden’s tropical delights through an artist’s eyes while sketching in the display gardens.   Learn the drawing process and how your inspiration can be recorded and translated into a sketch. Classes will be led by artist/instructor, Marilyn Walter.

Guided Meditation Morning Walk

Join us for a peaceful walk designed to quiet your mind, boost your mood and bring awareness to your environment and your body. As you walk through the Garden, your guide will give you prompts to help you engage your body, mind and spirit. Guided Walks are led by Mounts Special Project Manager April Krebs.

+ 10-11 am: Catwalk Student Fashion Show – The Resource Depot has partnered with Mounts Botanical for an encore presentation of their 9th Annual Catwalk Student Fashion Show. Middle and high school students will showcase their original, environmentally-conscious “fashion” designs inspired by Mounts Botanical in a stunning, outdoor runway show. All fashions have been created from recycled materials.

Mother’s Day & Dogs’ Day in the Garden

Sunday, 9 am to 3 pm (last entry at 2 pm)

FREE for members and ALL MOMS (of human and fur babies); $10 for nonmembers; $5 for children 5-12

This dog-and-family-friendly monthly event is held throughout the Garden. Bring your Mom and your beloved dog to enjoy a relaxed garden stroll. There are many great spots to capture family photos for posting online with #mountsbotanicalgarden.

Guidelines:

+ Non-retractable leashes only; retractable leashes are not permitted.

+ No more than one dog per adult will be admitted.

+ Rabies vaccination must be current.

+ Visitors should bring their own and water treats for the puppies.

Mommy and Me: Nature Walk

Backyard Gardener Tour

MBG Horticulture Supervisor Matt Boyson will lead an insider’s tour of the Garden. Learn about some of his favorite plants and some tricks of the trade. Discover what works and what doesn’t in South Florida’s climate and take some great ideas home to your own backyard, patio or balcony garden.

Youth Program: Handmade Nature Collage Books

Friday, 3 pm to 5 pm

$20 for members; $25 for nonmembers

(Registration is required; class size is limited; includes full Garden admission)

Appropriate for ages 8-12, this after-hours class begins with a Discovery Walk in the Garden followed by a craft project, where students will create a Nature Collage Book inspired by their stories from the Walk. Participants will meet at the front entrance. Class will be led by Special Projects Manager April Krebs.

The awesome and ecology-conscious exhibition Cutting Corners: A Stickwork Exhibition, a massive, willow sculpture located in the Great Lawn area.
