Fred Roger, local owner of Dr. G’s Weight Loss in Wellington (in the Whole Foods plaza on 441)In 2006, Fred Roger separated from the United States Marine Corps and set forth in his transition back to the civilian community. He attended Nova Southeastern Universitys H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship earning an M.B.A in entrepreneurship. A start-up franchising company based in Fort Lauderdale, FL recruited Fred to help build the corporate infrastructure of this new international venture, Dr. Gs Weight Loss and Wellness Franchising Companies. He worked closely with Dr. Charles Dr. G Goldsmith and served as the Director of Training and Product Development for several years. In 2013, Fred shifted his focus back to his hometown and is now providing weight loss solutions for Palm Beach County as the managing partner of several local Dr. Gs centers.
The Story of Dr. Gs Weight Loss & Wellness
Dr. Charles Goldsmith, the Founder of Dr. Gs Weight Loss and Wellness Franchising Companies, first became interested in Obesity at Temple University over 40 years ago. As a 3rd year pre-med student, he conducted experiments in various behaviors, including eating behaviors, by electrically stimulating discreet centers of the brain. It became clear to him that the problem of Obesity was not simply a lack of willpower. He learned that the central nervous system, endocrine system, and genetics were major factors. Thus began a life long interest in the medical aspects of Obesity.
After graduating Jefferson Medical College in 1973, Dr. Goldsmith started his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at JMH/UM. In 1977, he began his career as a private practitioner in OB/GYN. During his 30 plus years of practice, he repeatedly heard from his patients that it was very difficult to lose weight and keep it off. This reignited his interest in Obesity and its related disorders.
Meanwhile the problem with obesity in the U.S. was reaching epidemic proportions and the link to Diabetes, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis, many cancers, issues of self-esteem and clinical depression was all too apparent.
Then in 1993, Dr. G became acquainted with a European weight loss system that combined natural herbal compounds with prescription medication that resulted in decreasing appetite, increasing metabolism and promoted a holistic approach to the problem of obesity. He took the principles of the program and adapted it to the U.S. market…thus Dr. Gs Weight Loss and Wellness Program was born.
In the beginning, Dr. Goldsmith only offered this program to his own patients, but word of mouth kept bringing people to the practice in droves. The program proved to be so successful, that by 2001, he had to devote his time entirely to this segment of his practice.
Dr. Goldsmith has always believed that because obesity is a serious medical disorder, the Battle of the Bulge should be waged with the help and supervision of certified medical physicians. Therefore, he set about developing a system that could be scaleable as a franchise model. His approach and program though would be under close care and medical supervision of a doctor.
