Fright Nights promises to scare up fun at South Florida Fairgrounds

West Palm Beach, Fla. — For those looking for thrills and chills this Halloween season, Fright Nights promises to provide that and more at the South Florida Fairgrounds’ “ Scream Park ” over three weekends: Oct. 10-12, Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26. The midway opens at 6 p.m. and for those who dare to enter one of four haunted houses, that adventure begins at 7 p.m. Closing time on Thursdays is 11 p.m. and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

“This event is about the haunted houses,” said Craig McInnis, creative director of Fright Nights. “We want you to come out and get your blood pumping … to escape and step into our imaginary world. The main purpose is to scare people, which sounds devious, but that’s what we get a kick out of the most as do the people who attend.”

McInnis added that there is no “safe place” on the event grounds.

“Scary characters will be roaming the grounds, just like on a set of a horror movie,” he said. “There’s no way to avoid the ‘scare zones.’ Anyone is fair game!”

A Monster Bash Costume Party presented by Fright Nights will follow on Oct. 27 from 6 p.m. until midnight. The cover charge is $5 and will give guests the chance to meet the cast and crew. There also will be a “Dead DJ,” dancing, finger foods, beverages and the Grim’s Tale haunted house will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is appropriate for all ages.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to experience Fright Nights. Parents of children under 12 years old may opt to take them to Spookyville, an old-fashioned Halloween event also being held at the South Florida Fairgrounds over two weekends and on Halloween, Oct. 18-20, Oct. 25-27 and Oct. 31. The event, sponsored by South Florida Ford dealers, will offer a full array of safe trick or treats, kiddie rides, games, arts and crafts and pony rides.
