WELLINGTON CARES INAUGURAL LUNCHEON EXCEEDS GOAL

Community Supports Local Organization While Having A Great Time

Kathy Foster and Dr . Stuart Bagatell

Wellington, FL, November 2, 2015 – Wellington Cares hosted its inaugural luncheon on Thursday, October 22nd at Wanderers Club in Wellington. Attendees heard from national speaker, Dr. Stuart Bagatell, a specialist of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bagatell is a proponent of Physician Orders of Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST), a movement that began in Oregon in the early 1990s.

“We are overwhelmed by the support from the community for our inaugural luncheon,” said Wellington Cares Executive Director, Kathy Foster. “We exceeded our attendance and financial goals as well as informed the community on the free services we provide for the senior community in Wellington.” Guests heard a lively presentation from Dr. Bagatell about patient rights, healthcare surrogates, and the importance of having a living will.

Over 90 guests including local business owners, volunteers, clients, elected officials and candidates attended the luncheon. The afternoon began with an auction and Foster welcoming guests. “Dr. Bagatell’s presentation was both informative and entertaining,” said Anne Gerwig, Village of Wellington Councilwoman. “Wellington Cares provides so much to our 65 plus population, the support today for them is wonderful.”

The afternoon concluded with guests networking and a Call to the Heart. Wally Sanger won a Seminole Casino/NYY Steakhouse gift basket that included merchandise and brunch, while Karen Gant won a beautiful floral arrangement from Wellington Flowers. All in attendance received a gift bag valued over $100 complements of Seminole Casino/NYY Steakhouse and other luncheon sponsors. The event raised over $10,300 for the organization.
