WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The South Florida Fair is inviting guests of all ages to set sail on an exclusive adventure with its 2026 theme: “Party with the Pirates.” From January 16 – February 1, 2026, fairgoers will be encouraged to unleash their inner pirate with a variety of activities, entertainment, fair food and attractions inspired by the legends of the high seas. The fun takes place at the fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd.

But first, for four days only from November 7-10, fairgoers may want to take note of the Pirate’s Gold Treasure Flash Sale. Those who buy an advance discount ride voucher for $30 will receive a free Gold Access wristband.

Gold Access allows pass holders to move to the front of the ride lines on any one day of the fair. The normal cost of the Gold Access Pass at the gate is $12 Monday-Thursday and $20 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and MLK Day, so the savings are considerable.

The Advance Ride Voucher can be redeemed for one Ride Wristband any one day of the Fair. Once the Pirate’s Gold Treasure Flash Sale ends, ride vouchers will continue to sell for $30 in advance at Publix and online. Once the fair opens, the price is $35 Monday-Friday and $50 Saturday and Sunday at any midway ticket plaza.

Advance admission tickets also will be available for purchase for $12 at Publix and online until January 15 at midnight. For those who use an advance discount admission ticket on opening day, January 16, they can keep the ticket and come back another day, courtesy of Publix. Once the Fair opens on January 16, admission tickets are $15 for 11 years and older Monday-Friday, and $20 on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for children 10 and younger.

During the fair, guests will have the opportunity to interact with costumed actors portraying pirates in history and The Golden Age of Piracy from the 17th and 18th centuries. Characters will include Blackbeard, a notorious British pirate who terrorized the Caribbean and American colonies in the early 18th century, and Anne Bonny, one of only a few recorded female pirates during this time period. She has become one of the most recognized pirates of the era, as well as in the history of piracy in general. Palm Beach County students will create their own pirate-themed flags that will be on display in the Expo Center. In Yesteryear Village, there will be encampments, scavenger hunts with pirate treasure, more costumed actors and a themed marketplace with pirate merchandise.

Returning Fair favorites include daily ice skating shows titled “Legends of the Frozen Cove,” comedy hypnotist Brad Matchett, Ag-venture Land, Moo-ternity area, daily parades, Taste the Treasure Fair Foodie Tour, Top Talent Showdown, Drumline Competition, Classic Rock Tribute Band Competition, Miss South Florida Fair & Miss Palm Beach County Scholarship Competition, bike nights, live concerts, livestock shows and certainly a variety of unique fried foods and more than 200 carnival rides and games.

Veterans Build 2025 to Support Local Heroes

Annual campaign unites community in building and repairing homes for veterans across Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (October 26, 2025): Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County is proud to announce Veterans Build 2025, presented by Vertical Bridge, taking place Friday, November 7, 2025. This annual event continues Habitat’s steadfast commitment to honoring and supporting those who have served our nation.

Veterans Build is an annual fundraiser and day of service that supports veterans and active-duty service members in Palm Beach County through affordable homeownership and home revitalization projects. This year’s event will feature a variety of projects benefiting local veterans and their families across Palm Beach County. Job sites include work in Jupiter, Riviera Beach, West Palm Beach, and Boynton Beach, all designed to ensure that every veteran has a safe, stable, and dignified place to call home.  This year’s event is once again presented by Vertical Bridge, a longtime partner and supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County.

“Vertical Bridge is honored to continue our meaningful and significant partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County for the 2025 Veterans Build,” said Ron Bizick, President and CEO of Vertical Bridge. “We’re proud to mark our eighth consecutive year supporting this initiative, which not only provides safe, affordable homes for veterans – it also reinforces the strength and resilience of the communities we’re proud to be part of.  We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to those who have given so much for us.”

Returning to lead this year’s efforts are Co-Chairs Michael Maglio and Clint Rowe, joined by their wives, Tiffany Maglio and Rose Lowe, who bring their passion and leadership to the 2025 event. They are supported by a dedicated Veterans Build Committee of community leaders and advocates including Art Roffey, Gail Danto (Honorary Co-Chairs), Anne Desormier-Cartwright, Julia Dattolo, Ryan Paton (Committee Reserves), Andrew Filauro, Anta Plowden, Anthony Nastase, Ashley Carroll, Carey Clarke, Chad Ryan, Debbie Meyers, Donna Kerner, Ivan Rosa, Joel Villahermosa, Jon Raybuck, Justin List, Nelie Shah, Nicholas Cannon, Rahul Sudhakar, and Shane Kelly. Together, this group is helping raise critical funds and awareness to ensure local veterans and their families have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

The day of service will culminate in the American Dream BBQ, a community celebration honoring veterans and recognizing the collective impact of participants, sponsors, and volunteers. Guests will enjoy live music, entertainment, and a BBQ lunch while connecting with fellow changemakers. Community members and businesses are encouraged to join us at the event from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Friday, November 7, held at the Intracoastal Park and Clubhouse in Boynton Beach. Tickets are $50, and your contribution goes towards Veterans Build 2025, helping local veterans achieve and maintain the American dream of homeownership.

“Veterans Build is about serving those who bravely served our nation,” said Jennifer Thomason, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County. “It’s an opportunity for our community to come together, honor their service, and ensure the veterans who call Palm Beach County home have the stability and support they deserve.”

Crème Brulée

0

Here’s a great recipe for Creme Brulee, and you don’t need to have a special torch for the finishing touch; you use your broiler.

Ingredients

  • 3 large egg yolks
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Directions

  1. Gather the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Move an oven rack to the lowest position.
  2. Whisk egg yolks, 1/4 white sugar, and vanilla together in a heatproof bowl until smooth. Bring cream just to a simmer in a saucepan over medium-low heat; gradually whisk hot cream into egg yolk mixture (a little at a time to prevent the mixture from scrambling), whisking continuously until combined.
  • Bring a couple of inches of water to a simmer in a saucepan over medium-low heat; set the bowl with cream mixture over the saucepan to form a double boiler. Cook, gently stirring with a wooden spoon, until cream mixture thickens enough to easily coat the back of the spoon.
  • Pour hot cream into a heat-proof baking dish or individual ramekins set on a rimmed baking sheet. Place in the preheated oven; bake until mixture sets but has a slight jiggle, about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  • To make the topping: Preheat the oven’s broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Combine 2 tablespoons white sugar and brown sugar in a small bowl; sprinkle evenly over cold crème brûlée.
  • Heat under the preheated broiler until sugar melts and browns, 2 to 3 minutes; return immediately to the refrigerator and chill until sugar is set, about 15 minutes.

New Partnership Provides On-site Mental Health Care at The Foundations School

WEST PALM BEACH — Students at The Foundations School (TFS) at The Susan and Dom Telesco Center for Creative Education (CCE) now learn in an environment where academics and mental health care work side-by-side, thanks to a new partnership between the Center for Child Counseling (CFCC) and CCE that began in July 2025.

The collaboration embeds CFCC’s prevention, early intervention and treatment services at TFS on CCE’s campus. By co-locating CFCC’s skilled therapists and providing direct support, training and resources to TFS students and families, the partnership ensures that those connected to The Foundations School have immediate access to mental health care in the place children spend most of their time: school.

“As collaborative partners with The Foundations School, we are excited to work together to ensure the mental health care, safety and wellness of the school’s students and their families,” said Renée Layman, CEO of Center for Child Counseling. “This collaboration will promote a model of care that addresses the whole child, supporting their social-emotional, cognitive and physical development and the needs of their family.”

CFCC will also offer a broad range of onsite services designed to strengthen the school community at TFS. These include classroom observations to help identify student needs, psychoeducational groups that promote social-emotional skills and resilience, and evidence-based programs such as SNAP (Stop Now and Plan), which reinforce positive behaviors and problem-solving. Teachers and caregivers will also have access to workshops and consultations that provide practical strategies for managing stress and fostering healthy child development.

“This collaboration is a powerful step forward in ensuring every student at TFS has the opportunity to thrive academically and emotionally,” said Robert L. Hamon, President and CEO of CCE. “Integrating mental health services into our school model transforms how children learn, equipping them and their families with the skills and support needed to succeed in school, at home and in the world.”

CCE advances academic success through programs that support students, families and communities. The Foundations School, one of four programmatic pillars, is a K–5 independent school achieving transformative results for underserved students. Tuition is accessible thanks to critical philanthropic support and state scholarships. CCE’s research produces results that inform and impact the field of education.

Center for Child Counseling has been building the foundation for playful, healthful and hopeful living for children and families in Palm Beach County since 1999. Its services focus on preventing and healing the effects of adverse experiences and toxic stress on children, promoting resiliency and healthy family, school and community relationships.

Wellington Garden Club (WGC) will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, November 3rd, at 10:00AM, at the Wellington Community Center, at 12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd. The meeting will feature a presentation by Tom Ramiccio on bromeliads. He estimates he has about 7,000 bromeliads in his vast and varied collection. When Ramiccio ran out of space for bromeliads in his Lake Worth yard, he planted them on trees, creating a vertical garden of these colorful water-holding “vase” plants.

Aside from his knowledge of how-to grow bromeliads, Ramiccio has a long list of community service accolades.  He brings with him more than forty years of professional marketing and public relations. He was the marketing director for Palm Beach County Visitors and Convention Bureau for over ten years. He served three terms as Mayor of the city of Lake Worth. He represented the Greater Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce as their President/CEO for ten years.  For thirty-seven years he was the Governor of the Florida District of Kiwanis International. He also served on the Salvation Army Board for thirty-five years.

The public is invited to join the club for coffee and a plant raffle beginning at 9:30AM.  Visitors are asked to check in at the desk upon arrival. Reserving a spot at the meeting is recommended.  Please contact the Wellington Garden Club membership chair, Anne Hlasnicek, via email: ideasmith@comcast.net

Wellington Garden Club, founded in 1981, is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating its members and the public in the fields of gardening, horticulture, floral design, and landscape design; and to promoting conservation of natural resources, civic beautification, and youth education.  For more information: www.wellingtongardenclub.org.
