(Delray Beach, FL – February 22, 2023) Back by Delicious and Divine Demand,Arts Garage today announced that it will be bringing back the Fierce, Fabulous and Fascinating GARAGE QUEENS on the last Friday of every other month in 2023: February 24, April 28, June 30, August 25, October 27, and December 29.

These jaw-dropping, crowd-tickling, glitter-glowing shows will be hosted by the inimitably exquisite “Diva, Icon and Legend” Ariel Rimm, and will feature some of South Florida’s most electrifying drag entertainers: Adelaide, Citris, Chyna Stackz Hilton, and Angie Ovahness Pryce, along with special surprise one-night-only guests, all stunningly coiffed and bedecked.

“Arts Garage looks forward to showcasing some of South Florida’s most colorful and notorious drag queens and/or female illusionists, starting this Friday, February 24with the amazing London Adour,” says Marjorie Waldo, the venue’s President & CEO.

London Adour (he/she/they) is a former Las Vegas showgirl, performing on the strip of Sin City for the past seven years. London just relocated to South Florida and is already taking over with her own shows from Delray Beach down to Miami. 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Recognized During National 211 Awareness Month

Lantana, FL: (February 21, 2023) February ushered in 211 Awareness Month, and 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast is being recognized locally for their lifesaving work in the community and nationally.

In the county commission meeting last week, Mayor Gregg Weiss and Palm Beach County commissioners proclaimed 211 Awareness Week February 11-February 17. Mayor Weiss called the nonprofit hotline a beacon of hope during the proclamation celebrating 211. 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast will receive proclamations from each of our five counties (Palm Beach, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie) and several municipalities throughout the month as they understand the valuable work 211 does. 

211 is now available in 99% of the United States. For over 50 years, 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast has been the central access point providing individuals and families with guidance and crisis support via telephone or text any time of day or night, seven days a week.

In recognizing 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast for being on the front line for residents of Palm Beach County, the proclamation urges all citizens to be aware of the only telephone number they need to know to access information to over 1600 agency providers with wide-ranging programs and services throughout the area that include food assistance, mental health care, health clinics, growth and development screenings, special needs resources, elder in crisis assistance, daily calls to check on seniors, caregiver support and veterans services.

“We are proud to have great partnerships with local nonprofits, government and businesses, including national vendors,” said Sharon L’Herrou, President/CEO of 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast. “It is so important to continue to share with our community the vital and lifesaving work that 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast offers. 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast continues as the regional responder for the newly branded national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number. Callers are encouraged to dial 988 or 211 in our local community should they need to talk or need mental health, substance use, or other service providers. Anyone in imminent danger should continue to use 911 as needed.

Middle and high school performers including two Wellington vocalists will vie in the 19th “Future Stars Performing Arts Competition” 7 p.m. Tuesday March 7 in the tented and seated Mizner Park Amphitheater as part of Festival of the Arts BOCA for the first time.

Tradition is cheering on their favorites, and most audience members’ seating is free. The mission of Rotary’s “Future Stars Performing Arts Competition” is not only to give South Florida’s talented high school and middle school performers a professional quality production. The club also helps many of the show’s performers by providing college scholarships so they can follow their dream of a career in the performing arts.

If traveling somewhere exotic is burning up your New Year’s bucket list, then a quick trip to the Land of the Rising Sun might be the perfect escape. But if you can’t quite make it to Japan this weekend, no worries, there’s always the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. 

On Saturday, February 25, the cultural Delray Beach gem will present a special, don’t-miss kimono demonstration. Believed to be a Japanese symbol of longevity and good fortune, museum-goers will learn about the iconic robe’s fashionable history, as well as how to wear and style a traditional men’s and women’s kimono. A Q&A will follow each demonstration.

The Arc of Palm Beach County Receives Grant for Community Inclusion Program

Riviera Beach, Fla. (February 17, 2023) – The Arc of Palm Beach County aims to build acceptance and inclusion for all children to help them thrive in the community. Thanks to a continued partnership between The Arc and Prime Time Palm Beach County, youth with disabilities will continue to have improved access to high-quality experiences in after-school and summer programs.

The Arc’s Community Inclusion Program coaches, supports, and provides training to 514 out-of-school time (OST) practitioners each year to ensure that every child can participate in OST programs alongside their peers. The program focuses on how to implement interactive activities and strategies that complement the strengths and abilities of all youth. Through the effective use of visuals, person-first language, activity design, and room setup, practitioners foster an environment that encourages communication and enhances social-emotional wellness. 

“The Community Inclusion Program gives practitioners the tools and skills needed to promote the inclusion and acceptance of all youth in the community,” said Kimberly McCarten, president and CEO of The Arc of Palm Beach County. “When children with disabilities can share their unique talents and interact positively with their peers and adults, other youth also benefit from the healthy social relationships built through understanding and trust.”

The Community Inclusion Program is made possible with support from Prime Time Palm Beach County, which receives significant funding from the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County. Prime Time has supported The Arc for nearly 20 years. This year, the program will support an additional Community Inclusion Specialist, enabling The Arc to coach more practitioners and enhance the program’s impact.

Wellington, FL (February 13, 2023) – Vietnam veterans Ramon Silvacoll, Fred Quan, Ernie Zimmerman, and Bob Nappi profoundly appreciated their recent emotional trip to Washington, D.C. as part of the Southeast Florida Honor Flight. 

The quartet agreed that the positive reception they received in the capitol and returning home to Palm Beach International airport was the polar opposite of when they returned to the U.S. after their service ended. 

“The Honor Flight made me feel like a brand-new person,” said the 77-year-old Silvacoll, who served in the Marines. “It was such a beautiful thing. It’s a great organization.”

Nappi, who joined the Navy before he turned 17 years old, was surprised at the reception the veterans received both at the Washington, D.C. airport and Palm Beach International. 

“Honor Flight gave me back the feelings that I had lost for years,” said the 71-year-old Nappi. “When you get treated the way we were treated when we came home, you didn’t want to think about it. I buried it. Not too many of my family knew about anything so it was easy until I blew up and exploded. The Honor Flight gave me everything that I lost. It takes veterans from a place in a hole and puts them on a cloud. The veterans that go on Honor Flight come back as new people.”

The Stuart-based Southeast Florida Honor Flight is an all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit organization that flies World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans from Palm Beach International to Washington, D.C. four times a year free of charge to visit the memorials built to honor their service and sacrifices. 

Each flight costs about $140,000 and are completely funded through donations, according to Chairman Janet Hoose. The next flights are scheduled for April 15 and May 27. 

They hold several fundraisers throughout the year and the largest is the Buck Off Challenge, a family-friendly mechanical bull-riding competition on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. on the boardwalk at the original Wellington Community Center.

A limited number of individual VIP reserved seats are available for $75 and includes close-to-the-action seating, dinner and a cash bar. There is free general admission, and guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Zimmerman served in the Army and had taken his daughters to Palm Beach International to welcome home veterans from previous Southeast Florida Honor Flight trips. 

“Honor Flight was one of the best things in my life, other than when my children were born,” said Zimmerman. “The volunteers are the greatest people I ever met in my life. They’re fantastic. When we got to Washington, the people treated us great. The people who weren’t involved in the organization, when they saw what we were wearing, they treated us like war heroes. When we came home from Vietnam, it was nothing like that. They treated us like the scum and the garbage of the earth. To be treated so good, even though it’s 50 years later, it makes us feel so good. For a veteran, especially a Vietnam veteran, it’s one of the greatest things in the world.”

Four-person teams compete in the Buck Off Challenge, where individual rides are scored by a panel of celebrity judges and totaled to determine the winning team. Riders are scored on their ability to stay on the bull while always keeping one hand in the air and the style of the ride. Higher scores may be achieved for character, team “spirit” and costumes. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams.  There will also be prizes for Most Entertaining Team, Highest Scoring Individual, Highest Scoring Youth Rider (12 and under) and Highest Scoring Rookie Rider. 

The entry fee is $100 per team. 

The Buck Off Challenge is being co-sponsored by the Village of Wellington and Signature Sponsor,philanthropist Dr. Shamser Singh of Port St. Lucie. “I would totally recommend that (veterans) should go because it is a really inspiring thing that your efforts during the war were appreciated,” said the 76-year-old Quan. “It was an honor (to serve). It really was an honor.”
