Brightline Celebrates Opening of Boca Raton + Aventura Stations

0

MIAMI (December 20, 2022) – Today, Brightline, the only provider of modern, eco-friendly, intercity rail in America, along with its partners in Boca Raton, Aventura and Miami-Dade County, celebrated the ribbon cutting of its Aventura and Boca Raton train stations. Congressman Carlos Gimenez and Mayors Daniella Levine Cava, Scott Singer and Howard Weinburg were joined by officials from the City of Boca, the City of Aventura, Miami-Dade County and Brightline executives to officially launch the highly anticipated opening of the two new stations. The first day of service for Boca Raton and Aventura is Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

The ceremony commenced at the entrance of the Boca Raton station at 9 a.m. where city officials and media were welcomed with remarks by Brightline’s President Patrick Goddard, City of Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, Florida State Senator Tina Polsky and Milton Segarra of Discover The Palm Beaches. The ceremony proceeded with a tour of the completed station and the inaugural ride from Boca Raton to Aventura.

The ceremony at Aventura began at noon with remarks by Brightline President Patrick Goddard, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, City of Aventura Mayor Howard Weinburg, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman and Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) Second Vice Chair Robert Wolfarth. The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a tour of the Aventura station and the inaugural ride from Aventura to MiamiCentral.

With the station openings of Aventura and Boca Raton, Brightline now has five stations in South Florida and will connect travelers to existing stations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Both stations feature Brightline’s signature autonomous MRKT, SMART and PREMIUM lounges in addition to touchless turnstiles and free high-speed WiFi throughout the station and onboard the train.

Brightline Aventura Station

Brightline’s Aventura station is located at 19796 West Dixie Highway, Miami FL 33180. The Aventura station will allow guests congestion-free travel between all of Brightline’s stations with an estimated travel time to MiamiCentral of about 20 minutes. The station will also offer express service between Miami during the peak morning and evening hour commute periods, saving time and stress for commuters.

As part of the agreement with Miami-Dade Transit, Brightline guests will have access to discounted rides between Aventura and MiamiCentral through the Brightline website and app. Monthly commuter passes for travel between Aventura and MiamiCentral can be purchased at a discount at the Aventura station guest services desk. Starting in January 2023, discounted commuter passes will be available online or through the app. Brightline will reserve capacity on commuter trains for rides between Aventura and MiamiCentral up until 48 hours of train departures.

The 34,000 square foot station features 240 parking spaces, a bus drop-off for Miami-Dade Transit passengers, newly landscaped and hardscape areas and a pedestrian skybridge that transports guests from the vertical transportation towers to the train platform. Brightline is currently designing a new pedestrian bridge which will connect the platform to the Aventura Mall. Upon the station’s opening, Brightline will provide a complimentary bi-directional Brightline+ shuttle to Aventura Mall for guests. The shuttle will be available 14 hours of the day.

The Aventura station has been designed to LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver criteria as part of Brightline’s goals to reduce contribution to global climate change, enhance individual human health and protect water resources. These LEED Silver station design features include a solar canopy and installation of electric charging vehicles to reduce emissions and encourage clean transportation, a careful selection of materials to increase healthy indoor spaces and smart technology to reduce water use.

In October 2019, the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) passed a resolution to approve the property acquisition and development agreement between the County and Brightline. It also approved the use of $76.7 million of surtax dollars for the development of this project, which will serve the Northeast Corridor – one of six corridors in the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program.

Brightline Boca Raton Station

Brightline’s Boca Raton station is located on a 1.8-acre site adjacent to the downtown library and across from Mizner Park and at 101 NW 4th St, Boca Raton, FL 33432. The 22,000 square foot station features a 455-space parking garage which will service Brightline’s guests and visitors to the library, who will have dedicated, covered, and complimentary spaces on the first floor. The station will also provide two complimentary, on-demand Brightline+ EV carts to destinations within downtown Boca Raton. Travel between Boca and MiamiCentral will be approximately 60 minutes.

Partners in this project include the City of Boca Raton and Federal Railroad Administration that awarded Brightline and Boca $16.4 million for construction of the station.

Station Travel Times, Parking + Passes for Boca and Aventura

Brightline’s initial schedules for Aventura and Boca are designed to optimize commuter patterns and will focus on peak morning and evening weekday service. During non-peak hours and weekends, Brightline will provide service approximately every other hour. Regular hourly service will continue in West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and MiamiCentral. You can view a full schedule for Boca and Aventura here

Parking options will be available at both stations upon opening with rates for Brightline guests starting at $7 and walk-up parking rates starting at $6 for up to an hour. Guests traveling from Aventura and Boca Raton stations will also have access to Brightline+ shuttle services offered to South Florida’s biggest games and events.

For guests looking to save on fares, a commuter SMART pass will be available for $229 per month. Passes for SHORT (2-leg) and LONG (4-leg) bookings will also be available for both SMART and PREMIUM. Miami-Aventura passes can be purchased in-person at the Aventura station and will become available for purchase online in early 2023 for $170 per month. ‘The Palm Beaches in Bloom’ Floral Art Installation by Mounts Botanical Garden Wowed New York City

0

Large-scale Installation is a Preview to Lisa Waud’s Exhibit Coming to Mounts in Spring 2023

(West Palm Beach, FL – December 14, 2022) Mounts Botanical Garden has returned from New York City following a week-long wow-worthy tropical botanical art installation by Lisa Waud.

The large-scale installation, done in conjunction with the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County and Discover the Palm Beaches, represented The Palm Beaches’ vibrant attractions, arts and culture, glittering views of the Atlantic, and more.

“This was an amazing opportunity to share The Palm Beaches warm and sunny vibes with New York City shoppers and visitors and encourage them to visit our art and culture-rich destination,” said Mounts Curator-Director Rochelle Wolberg. “Plus, it served as a preview to an exhibit by Lisa Waud that we will be hosting at Mounts Botanical Garden this spring.”

The life-size abstract was a take on The Palm Beaches’ picturesque lifeguard towers that dot the county’s 47 miles of beaches and was on display at The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards from December 5-9, 2022.

Designed by floral artist Lisa Waud, the display featured hundreds of live tropical botanicals, including orchids, monsteras, philodendrons, hibiscus, roses, birds of paradise, foxtail ferns, and more.

The piece was also environmentally friendly, as the artist strives for zero waste throughout her practice. She sources from local growers and vendors, utilizes found and foraged natural items, buys used and reusable materials, composts organic matter, and recycles what remains.

‘The Palm Beaches in Bloom’ is a preview to the exhibit that Lisa Waud will be installing at Mounts Botanical Garden in April of 2023 where she will create installations within the Garden’s tropical landscape.

About Lisa Waud:

Based in Detroit, Michigan, Lisa Waud creates multi-sensory, site-specific botanical public art installations. Built on her background in professional garden and floral design, Lisa’s work intervenes within existing architecture mimicking natural armatures as a rare pause button in the context of perishability and impermanence. Past installations include Flower House Detroit, floral set design for Danny Brown’s ‘Best Life’ video and Jimmy Fallon appearance, FLORA festival in Cordoba, Spain, and the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall. Lisa’s projects have been featured in the New York Times, Huffington Post, Martha StewartDetroit News, Washington Post, and Travel + Leisure.

Heavily influenced by land art and large-scale installation artists, Waud is drawn to create ephemeral works with plants and flowers that immerse and engage the hosting community throughout the project – in the planning process, throughout the exhibition, and in the project’s afterlife.

Palm Health Foundation Donors Meet Their Nursing and Behavioral Health Professions Scholarship Recipients

0

West Palm Beach, Fla.– On December 2, 2022, Palm Health Foundation’s 2022 scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet and thank the donors who are supporting their education and their career goals in the nursing and behavioral health professions. Over 100 guests gathered at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach, FL, to honor the 61 undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate students, and listen to the heartfelt stories of the generous donors who are making their dreams come true. Frances Fisher generously underwrote the scholarship reception at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens where she serves as chairwoman.

Mrs. Fisher kicked off the evening by sharing how grateful she is to support local students dedicated to the health of the Palm Beach County community through The Frances Fisher Scholarship Fund at Palm Health Foundation where she serves as a board member and philanthropy committee chair. Fellow foundation board member and immediate past chair Denise Bober emceed the evening, sharing her personal story about what inspired her family to create The Sutton Kailey Nursing Advancement Fund. Named for her granddaughters, born just 24 weeks into her daughter Melissa’s pregnancy, Bober shared how “Kailey shined her presence on this earth for a mere 24 hours before God called her to come to heaven. Baby Sutton remained brave and strong, survived heart surgery, and spent 111 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.” Eight-year-old Sutton joined her grandmother at the lectern to recognize her family’s scholarship fund recipient, Victoria Ugalde.

Michael Dolce was invited to share the story behind The Joseph Dolce Surgical Nursing Scholarship Fund, named for his grandfather who was a doctor who served the poor of Palm Beach County, providing his medical services for free. With his son Luke by his side, Mr. Dolce spoke of his grandfather’s commitment to his patients and the deep respect he had for nurses. Luke held photos of his great-grandfather as his father spoke, sharing the image of the man whose legacy lives on through the Palm Health Foundation scholarship in his name.

Several other scholarship donors were recognized at the event, including Pam Gladstone and Elizabeth Rosenthal representing the B.J. & Paula Harris Fund Scholars, Jill Merrell and the John T. Merrell Scholarship Fund, and Charles Keys, representing the Valley Bank Scholarship Fund. Scholars also received awards from several other funds at Palm Health Foundation, including: The Andrew P. Barowsky Scholarship Fund; The Samuel & Sylvia Lamstein Nursing Education Fund Scholarship; The Debra Coffman Howe Nursing Scholarship Fund; The Charles Norton Adams Nursing Endowment Fund; The Helen K. Persson Nursing Education Scholarship Fund; The Peter and Elinka Ordway Nursing Scholarship Fund; and The Palm Health Foundation Nursing Advancement Fund.

Patrick McNamara, president and CEO of Palm Health Foundation closed the evening by thanking the donors who collectively awarded over $400,000 in scholarships in 2022 and recognized the importance of the scholars’ dedication to health care. “Our community needs care that only professionals, like all of you, can provide,” he said. “You are here because you’ve demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and a true desire to serve your neighbors. Palm Health Foundation is proud to support, honor, and uplift you as you continue your journey. Thank you for your service to our community.”

Palm Health Foundation has granted more than $3.5 million in nursing scholarships to over 1,000 nursing students for advanced education since its founding in 2001 and recently expanded its scholarships to include the behavioral health field. The scholarships are administered by the George Snow Scholarship Fund and encourage individuals with financial need to enter and advance in the nursing and mental/behavioral health professions. The 2nd Annual Read It Write It…Comes to Wellington

Interview with Founder/Author Heidi Hess

Founder/Author Heidi Hess

AW: Tell us about your plans for Read It Write It this year.  What’s the goal of the event?

HH: Read It Write It’s mission is to bring together authors and readers of all ages and backgrounds and foster a love of reading and writing in our local community. We achieve this during our one day event by offering panel discussions/workshops, book signings, poetry readings and a book swap. In addition to that, we are also aiming to increase the number of Little Libraries in Wellington. Currently, there are five. Our goal for this year is to add at least two more.

AW: Why did you decide to move it to Wellington this year?

HH: Read It Write It is a Palm Beach County centric event. Wellington has such a wonderful community. It seemed like a natural fit.

AW: Who are some of the writers who will be exhibiting their work?

HH: USA Today Best Seller Lynessa Lane will be joining us, as well as Sheila Fowler, C.A. Miconi, Edward Laden Sr., and Steve Altier, just to name a few.

AW: Who are the publishers who will be there?

HH: We have three publishers joining us: Neon Sunrise Publishing and Wayward Cat specialize in prose, and Cosmic Times specializes in comic books and graphic novels.

AW: What kind of panel discussions will happen?

HH: I try to mix up the panel discussions. There will be something for everyone. You can expect panels for novices that range in topic – on the writing process and how to become published, to panels for writers already on their journey speaking specifically about how to market your books and branding as well as writing in specific genres.

AW: Is there still time to sign up as an author? Publisher?

HH: There is still time to register. I have a few tables left. Registration will remain open until I run out of tables or a week before the show- whichever comes first. Early Bird registration has been extended until January 15th. To register go to HeidiCreates.net

AW: Is it free to attend?

HH: Yes. General Admission is free. This year we have added two additional experiences. The Avid Reader and The VIP Experience. For more information about these experiences go to HeidiCreates.net.

AW: What inspired you to launch a book festival?

HH: I am a voracious reader and writing is my passion. I wanted to build a large festival environment that was free for everyone to attend and celebrates those things.

AW: Tell us about your writers group too.

HH: The Read It Write It – Writers Group is a casual low key writing critique group that meets the second Tuesday of every month. Copperpoint Brewing Company is our current location. We meet at 7pm.

AW: Tell us about your recently published book “The Short End of Madness.”

HH: The Short End of Madness is my first published book. It’s a genre spanning collection of short stories all centered around varying degrees of madness. It was a labor of love and an absolute blast to write.

AW: What’s your website address for Read It Write It?

HH: To register or more information about the additional experiences added this year go to HeidiCreates.net.

AW: What are your social media handles?

Facebook- Read It Write It Book Festival

Instagram- readitwriteitbookfestival

Twitter – @readitwriteitfl

TikTok – readitwriteitbookfest

AW: Anything else you want to add?

HH: Don’t forget to dress up as your favorite character in literature and register for the costume contest.
