About the Kretzer Music Foundation:

Formerly known as the Kretzer Piano Music Foundation, KMF is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the gift of music to children and seniors. “We are passionate about music being a part of every child’s life and the Foundation provides performance opportunities so young artists can share their talents with others,” says Kathi Kretzer.

In addition to awarding scholarships for music lessons and donating pianos to disadvantaged children and local children’s charities, KMF’s popular programs include:

+ The KRETZER KIDS, gifted young people who have performed over 60 concerts annually for 16 years in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, community events and at children’s hospitals.

+  The Music for the Mind concert series presented the third Tuesday of every month at CityPlace in West Palm Beach.  These concerts feature various musical groups from our area.  Beginning in 2002, Music for the Mind has provided more than 12,000 young musicians the opportunity to perform while raising over $650,000 to help promote music in our schools and community.

+ The Keyboards for Kids group piano classes were given to underprivileged children at Adopt-a-Family, the Boys and Girls Club and the Center for Creative Education.

+ The headline-grabbing Keys to the Cities campaign placed 18 whimsically painted pianos in public spots from Jupiter to Delray Beach (and winner of the 2014 Bernays Award for Best Special Event from the Gold Coast PR Council). Afterwards, the pianos were donated to worthy local nonprofit organizations, including Adopt-a-Family, Quantum House, Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s, Grandma’s Place, Lighthouse for the Blind, Opportunity, Inc., Palms West Pediatric Oncology, Salvation Army and the YWCA, where they continue to brighten lives.

+  The PHYSICIANS TALENT SHOWCASE concerts held for five years featured a group of talented medical doctors and raised funds for local children’s charities and music education.

Donation will fund more than 275,000 meals for families in need

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 16, 2018) – TooJay’s held its second annual “Too+You” campaign and raised $25,000 for Feeding Florida, a statewide network of Feeding America food banks providing a healthy, adequate and consistent food supply to those in need.

Throughout the month of September, $1 of every cake slice sold was donated to Feeding Florida. Guests also made donations by rounding up their checks throughout the month. “We are pleased to partner with and support Feeding Florida as a part of our commitment to give back to the local communities where we do business,” said Max Piet, President and CEO of TooJay’s. “Thanks to the efforts of our team members and guests, we surpassed our fundraising goal for this amazing cause.”  TooJay’s team members across its 28 locations also got involved by collecting enough canned food to provide an additional 2,500 meals.

“Feeding Florida is grateful to the TooJay’s community for their role in the fight to end hunger in our communities.” said Robin Safley, executive director of Feeding Florida. “This donation will allow us to continue to provide a healthy, adequate and consistent food supply to the 3.3 million Floridians facing hunger every day.”

Founded in 1981, TooJay’s currently serves guests in Palm Beach and Broward counties, the Treasure Coast, the West Coast of Florida, the Orlando area, The Villages, and Polk County. Three new restaurants are expected to open in Naples, Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach during the first half of 2019.

Wellington Ranks Among Best Places to Retire Nationwide

Wellington ranks as one of The Best Places to Retire in the U.S. Right Now in a recently published list by MONEY Magazine.

The article highlights Wellington as the best place for golfers to retire, stating, “Thanks to its 234 days of clear skies and proximity to Palm Beach County’s plethora of golf courses and country clubs, Wellington is a golfer’s paradise.”

In their quest to find the best places to retire, researches with MONEY, looked at data on more than 500 cities across the country. They focused on metrics like economic health, cost of living, health care, crime, diversity, quality of living, and amenities.

Wellington’s abundant amenities and popular family-friendly activities played a major factor in the ranking. MONEY noted the Lakeside Family Fun events as one of the Village’s best assets, saying “Bring the grandchildren to the Lakeside Family Fun Days, which offer free kayaking and other activities.” Read the full article here:The Best Places to Retire in the U.S. Right Now.

Russian Riding Hero Diana Zakharova: Ready to Compete at the “Best Place in the World for Dressage”

Russian Riding Hero Diana Zakharova: Ready to Compete at the “Best Place in the World for Dressage”

Wellington, FL (October 15, 2018) – “I want to have new riding experiences and Wellington is the best place in the world for dressage,” says Diana Zakharova, whose overseas achievements in CDI dressage competition led to her recently being approached by the Republic of Kyrgyzstan with an offer to ride for the country’s FEI team.

Kyrgyzstan lies along the ancient caravan route between China and the Mediterranean known as the Silk Road, and has retained much of its natural beauty, including rolling jailoos (summer pastures). The Equestrian Federation of the Kyrgyzstan Republic has been affiliated with the FEI since 1993 and, as of 2018, has 16 registered athletes and 22 horses competing from Regional Group 3.  Zakharova has deep ties to Kyrgystan as her husband Marat is a native of the country.

Not one to take so weighty an offer lightly, Zakharova — a former Economics major at Russia’s University of Geological Studies and a ‘rock star’ among Russian amateur riders for “going pro,” — moved to Florida four months ago because that’s where the international action is.

Zakharova became an idol of her Russian riding companions when she decided after only a few years of competing to step up and out of the amateur ranks and challenge herself as a professional competing in the CDI.  With more than 34 successful CDI under her belt she decided it was time to raise the bar again and set her sights on the Global Dressage Tour in Wellington, Florida.

Zakharova hasn’t regretted her decision for a second, especially now that her equine partner, Torress, a 14 year-old Latvian-bred gelding she tenderly calls “Prosha,” has navigated the long trip from Moscow to join the family: “He has arrived. It’s all good!”

The pair is off to a good start in the show ring. During the Wellington Classic Dressage Fall Challenge at the Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex, they earned their first American horse show ribbons, finishing fourth in the Prix St Georges.  “In Russian classification, that would be considered ‘small prize,” she said.

Much bigger prizes, like riding for a nation in Olympic or World competition, still await this mother of four (including a baby daughter) but she isn’t daunted. “I am putting it all together,” she laughed. “Raising kids is all about staying organized and that’s not so different from training dressage!”

Zakharova trains with Nicolas Fyffe out of Marcus Fyffe Dressage in Wellington. “My horse is well trained but we want to make our performances even better. It’s interesting to notice that some of the judges (in Wellington) judged me when I competed in Russia!”

She and Torress are planning to start 2019 competing in the CDI Small Tour before moving up to Grand Prix next fall. “We’re still getting accustomed to training and the Florida climate. Everything is a new experience, especially the hot weather!”

“It’s like starting life from scratch,” she says. “New goals are my favorite thing.” Raising her game in a new country, against many of the world’s best riders, doesn’t intimidate her at all. “I have never felt any pressure over anything,” she says with a grin.  In fact, she sums up her mindset right now in three simple words: “Positive. Communicative. Happy. Definitely happy.”

For Zakharova, dressage is about tests. And life? It’s all about the joy of taking on new challenges, balancing her family life, and riding life and “enjoying it all”.
