Tuesday, December 13, at 8 pm
(Delray Beach, FL – September 20, 2016 ) MusicWorks today announced that it would present folk icon Judy Collins at the Duncan Theatre on the Lake Worth campus of Palm Beach State College.
December 13 at 8 pm (Tuesday)
JUDY COLLINS
A Love Letter to Stephen Sondheim
The newest concert by folk icon Judy Collins is called A Love Letter to Stephen Sondheim. Her concerts typically find her playing the guitar and piano, singing, reminiscing and reflecting throughout her popular one-woman show. Ms. Collins debuted new material from her latest project A Love Letter to Stephen Sondheim on Mothers’ Day in Denver, CO. The show took the audience through Sondheim’s remarkable treasure-trove of music, interweaving stories of Broadway with her personal anecdotes and songs of her own life that have led her to some of the greatest songwriters of our generation and have become her biggest hits – Both Sides Now, Some Day Soon, Suzanne, In My Life, and of course, Send In the Clowns. Her newest live concert DVD with these songs and more on it will be sold in the Duncan Theatre lobby before and after the concert.
Judy Collins has thrilled audiences for over 50 years as a classically trained pianist with a lifelong love of the guitar. This Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter is drawn to music of hope that speaks to the heart. Now 76, Ms. Collins is as creatively vigorous as ever, writing, performing 80 to 100 dates nationwide, and nurturing fresh talent. She is a modern day Renaissance woman who is also an accomplished painter, filmmaker, record label head, musical mentor, and an in-demand keynote speaker for mental health and suicide prevention. She continues to create music of hope and healing that light up the world and speaks to the heart.

Palm Beach Photographic Centre Dedicates 20th Annual FOTOfusion to Female Photographers
+ Special Exhibition is Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment + Joyce Tenneson is Named FOTOmentor 2015+ Kitra Kahana to Receive Rising Spirit Award
Public is Invited to Free Opening Reception on Jan 22 & FOTOvision Outdoor Photography Presentation on Jan 23
Joyce Tenneson
(West Palm Beach, FL – December 23, 2014)Fatima NeJame, president and chief executive officer of the world-renowned Palm Beach Photographic Centre (PBPC), today announced that the nonprofit organization is dedicating the 20th annual FOTOfusion to women in photography. The popular five-day festival for amateur and professional photographers will be held January 20-24 in downtown West Palm Beach, and will include several FREE events for the public.
“Women have played a major role in the development of photography, from photojournalism to popular culture to high art, so it is very appropriate for the Palm Beach Photographic Centre to focus our 20th annual FOTOfusion on both honoring and reflecting their extraordinary track record and talent,” said Ms. NeJame.
FOTOfusion – where creativity and technology fuse – offers more than 100 workshops, lectures, panel discussions, multimedia presentations, portfolio reviews, hands-on computer classes, demonstrations, and photo shoots taught by an impressive faculty of industry leaders and photographic giants who donate their time and expertise to educate, mentor and encourage creativity among participants of all levels and ages.
Among the highlights of the upcoming FOTOfusion 2015 will be:
Special Exhibition: Women of Vision
Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment, a traveling exhibition sponsored by The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) that highlights the influential photography of 11 award-winning female journalists: Lynsey Addario, Kitra Cahana, Jodi Cobb, Diane Cook, Carolyn Drake, Lynn Johnson, Beverly Joubert, Erika Larsen, Stephanie Sinclair, Maggie Steber and Amy Toensing. Several of the photographers, including Kitra Cahana, Erika Larsen, Maggie Steber and Lynn Johnson are expected to attend the opening reception on January 22 and participate in public discussions.
“Women of Vision” features nearly 100 photographs, including moving depictions of far-flung cultures, compelling illustrations of conceptual topics such as memory and teenage brain chemistry, and arresting images of social issues like child marriage and 21st-century slavery. In addition to the photographs, visitors will have an opportunity to learn how National Geographic magazine picture editors work closely with the photographers to select images and tell a story. Video vignettes will present first-person accounts that reveal the photographers’ individual styles, passions and approaches to their craft.
“The exhibition underscores National Geographic’s history of documenting the world through photography and its ongoing commitment to supporting photographers as important and innovative storytellers who can make a difference with their work,” said Ms. NeJame.
FOTOfusion Awards Dinner
The annual FOTOfusion Awards Dinner will be held on Wednesday, January 21, at 6:30 pm, at the Lake Pavilion and Terrace, 101 South Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. This year’s dinner will be focused on the 20th anniversary of FOTOfusion and will include a silent auction of works by numerous award-winning photographers, including Joyce Tenneson, Vincent Versace, Robert Farber and more. The cost to attend is $200 per person and are available by calling the Photo Centre at 561.253.2600.

CENTER FOR CREATIVE EDUCATION NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
As the arts integration nonprofit enters its 20th anniversary, new hire was strategic.
(WEST PALM BEACH) As the Center for Creative Education (CCE) enters its 20th anniversary year of providing arts integration services to Palm Beach County students, Cecilia St. Hilaire has joined the organization as director of development, according to CCE CEO, Robert Hamon.
In her new role, St. Hilaire will be responsible for all aspects of a comprehensive donor program, including fundraising, event management, donor data management, board member development and donor communications for the West Palm Beach based nonprofit. She recently served as director of development, operations and finance for Opportunity Inc. for nine years.
“This move allows me to continue my passion for children’s education in an organization with a broader reach across Palm Beach County,” said St. Hilaire. “CCE’s mission of arts integration is a way to even the playing field for disadvantaged children at risk of failure and it allows academically advanced students an opportunity to explore higher order thinking processes. We are looking for supporters who care about art, education and children. I am truly excited about this new role!”
Since its inception 20 years ago, approximately 150,000 children have experienced CCE’s method of merging art with academics to bring learning to life, engaging children in hands-on, project-based education. CCE teaching artists use the arts as a vehicle to help students gain greater understanding of science, math, literacy and other areas of learning.
Traditionally CCE works with disadvantaged students at school sites all over Palm Beach County, providing after-school and in school programming to many students considered “at risk.” In addition, they are hired by private and independent schools to provide arts integrated instruction.
“As we look toward the next 20 years of this organization,” said Hamon, “we knew that this position would be critical to our continued evolution. Our timing was strategic and we know we have recruited the right individual to fill this important role.
“CCE is the largest provider of after-school services in Palm Beach County, and yet, we can only fulfill less than half of the requests we get because of lack of funding,” he continued. “That means we are turning away thousands of children a year. Cecilia’s skill set is perfectly suited for CCE. She has a strong record of financial and operational success with incredible knowledge of non-profit management. Her success within the philanthropic community in South Florida is a tremendous asset and we are thrilled with her addition to our team.”
In addition to her professional role, St. Hilaire volunteers as a long-standing board commissioner of the Westgate CRA, a member of the West Palm Beach Rotary Club, the Planned Giving Council of the Palm Beaches, the Northwood Renaissance marketing committee and the Circles Guiding Coalition of Palm Beach County.
A native of the Caribbean island of Dominica, she currently divides her time between homes in Wellington and Lighthouse Point.
For information on CCE’s in-school and after-school programming, classes in its Northwood Village headquarters, to participate in events or make a donation to benefit at-risk school programs, please visit www.cceflorida.org or call 561-805-9927.

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge’s National Public Lands Day Event a Success
On Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge hosted its annual National Public Lands Day event. “It was a great success,” announced Joseph Whelan one of the Refuge staff organizers. Fifty people volunteered several hours last Saturday planting 700 cypress trees on Refuge property. The area was previously covered by the non-native invasive Brazilian pepper. The Refuge was very pleased that so many different people came out for this yearly event, like individuals, families and church groups. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. During National Public Lands Day events, federal land management agencies work to connect people to public lands in their community, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health. The Refuge is located off U.S. 441/SR 7, two miles south of SR 804 (Boynton Beach Blvd.) and three miles north of SR 806 (Delray Beach’s Atlantic Avenue). The Refuge is currently open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. Refuge hours are posted at each entrance. The Visitor Center hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., seven days a week. An entrance fee of $5.00 per vehicle or $1.00 per pedestrian is charged. A variety of annual passes, including a $12.00 refuge specific annual pass, are available. Please visit the Refuge website at http://www.fws.gov/refuge/arm_loxahatchee or call the Administration Office at (561) 732-3684.

GOODWILL® RECOGNIZES VITAL FUNCTION OF WORKERS WITH DISABILITIES
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Grateful for the important role performed by workers with disabilities, Gulfstream Goodwill Industries commemorates National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) this October. This year’s theme for NDEAM, administered by the Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, is “#InclusionWorks,” which underscores the important role played by workers with disabilities in enhancing workplace diversity.
“Throughout its history, Goodwill and its independent member organizations have sought to meet the needs of all job seekers,” said Vice President of Program Services Kathy Spencer. “To this day, we offer programs for youth, seniors, veterans and those with disabilities to reach their full potential through education, skills training and the power of work.”
National Disability Employment Awareness Month’s origins date back to 1945, when Congress declared the first week of October as “National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week.” The name was changed in 1962 by omitting the word “physically” to acknowledge workers with all types of disabilities. The period of recognition was extended to the full month of October in 1988.
“By fostering a culture that embraces individual differences, including disabilities, businesses profit by having a wider variety of tools to confront challenges,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Jennifer Sheehy. “Our nation’s most successful companies proudly make inclusion a core value. They know that inclusion works.”
For 50 years, Gulfstream Goodwill has worked to support job seekers with disabilities and specialized circumstances through training, placement and employment efforts.
Gulfstream Goodwill recently recognized 19 employers throughout Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties for their outstanding commitment, dedication and continued efforts in hiring individuals with disabilities.
Radio controlled car enthusiast, Michael, began working at Okeechobee’s Big Lake Hobbies in February of this year. He is employed through Gulfstream Goodwill’s Supported Employment Program as a retail support worker.
The Big Lake Hobbies team is pleased with Michael’s performance. “Our store is expanding its inventory and increased responsibility for Michael will accompany the expansion,” said Kathie Papasso, Big Lake Hobbies owner. Michael is excited about the opportunities ahead.
“Goodwill believes that by assisting all workers to achieve their full potential, we are able to build stronger communities,” said President and CEO Marvin Tanck. “Once again this year, we are thrilled to celebrate the wonderful achievements of Goodwill program participants, and all employees with disabilities, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.”
For more information about how your donations help us support employees with disabilities in obtaining meaningful employment, visit our website at gulfstreamgoodwill.org.
