Breast cancer impacts more than just the patient going through treatment. A breast cancer diagnosis affects the individual, the family, the friends and the community.
The Advanced Breast Center at Wellington Regional Medical Center understands this and that’s why the Breast Cancer Support Group at the Advanced Breast Center at Wellington Regional Medical Center is open to anyone who has walked through a breast cancer diagnosis or supported a loved one on their journey.
Led by Dr. Andrew Shapiro, the Director of the Breast Program and Sheila Sheila Palacios, MSN-Ed, RN, OCN. Oncology Nurse Navigator, the group meets on the fourth Sunday of every month between 2:00pm-4:00pm in the Community Room.
Executive Chef Johnny Demartini has gathered his favorite Chef friends from around Palm Beach for an exciting summer dinner series at Ravish. Ravish is teaming up with Driftwood’s Jimmy Everett and Tommy Coombs for their final feature. Chef Everett’s kitchen experience has taken him from NYC and LA to Hong Kong. Now he’s back in town, where he owns and operates Driftwood with his wife, Ilia. Chef de Cuisine Tommy Coombs, a rising star in his own right, rounds out the team at Driftwood. The chefs will team up for a street food extravaganza for this dinner, showcasing a global menu highlighting both chefs’ culinary talents.

Aug. 21, 2024 (WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) – The Armory Art Center will open three new exhibitions this fall celebrating women artists, female excellence, and inclusivity. Called “Threads of Time and Imagination”, the collection of exhibitions features works in multiple mediums by Apia, a conceptual multidisciplinary artist based in South Florida. “Threads of Time and Imagination” is free and open to the public from Sept. 3 to Oct. 25, 2024.
The first show in the collection is “Exaggerations of History”, an innovative, captivating exhibit featuring a collection of 101 miniature portraits of female artists between the 12th and 20th centuries. No larger than a square inch, each painting was meticulously created without using magnification tools. Accompanied by an augmented reality (AR) experience, the exhibit offers visitors an immersive journey through the lives and works of these remarkable women. By integrating traditional art forms with cutting-edge technology, the exhibit aims to rectify the historical omission of female artists and highlight their significant contributions to the arts.
The second exhibition is “WATTA: Women Artists Through the Ages”. As an extension of “Exaggerations of History”, Apia created a large art installation under the name WATTA (Women Artists Through the Ages). The area aims to be a reflection space where visitors can feel the presence of all the women in the series as if they were there with them.
The third exhibition is “Hi and Hello World”, which centers on inclusion and what’s needed to achieve it. It focuses on an experience that connects each visitor with their inner child—to remember a moment in life when making a new friend was as easy as going to the park.
“Throughout history, the arts have been a driver of empathy and change—often providing a platform to those whose voices were ignored,” said Jill Brown, the Armory Art Center’s CEO. “Apia’s diverse artistic skills and dedication to celebrating inclusivity are inspiring. We can’t wait for the public to see these beautiful exhibitions and consider how they too can cultivate a more inclusive, empathetic community.”
“Inclusion is my driving force, rooted deeply in personal experience and philosophical exploration,” Apia wrote in her artist statement. “Through projects like “Exaggerations of History” and “Hi and Hello World”, I invite viewers to embrace diversity and celebrate often-overlooked voices. Each artwork, whether a miniature portrait or a vibrant installation, serves as a portal for reflection and dialogue on our shared humanity.”
The Armory will host an opening reception for “Threads of Time and Imagination” on Thursday, Sept. 12 (5:30-7:30 p.m.)For more information about the exhibition and to learn more about Apia, visit armoryart.org.

Wellington, FL — August 20, 2024 — Wellington Regional Medical Center announces that it has received certification from DNV as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of serious stroke events.
“With stroke care, you must have the best clinicians and resources, but also the ability to act organizationally with extreme efficiency because of the time-critical nature of these events,” says CEO, Pam Tahan. “This certification from DNV validates all the effort we have put into this program and to ensuring the health and safety of our patients.”
The DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and affirms that the medical center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.
“Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence,” says Kelly Proctor, President of DNV Healthcare USA Inc. “And it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”

You are welcome at my table, Come and share a cup of tea, With all my friends, you’re invited. Let’s break bread, you and me.
We will, for you, hold space, Extend our arms and open our hearts, With love and understanding, As that is where the healing starts.
As you sit next to me, At the same table, but worlds apart, The other’s place Neither I nor you can take, But we can lead with our hearts.
As someone who’s never sat at your table, I cannot claim to know your pain, The weight of prejudice, the sting of hate, Dehumanization, and stigmatization I cannot begin to know your suffering.
As someone who’s never sat in your seat, I cannot pretend to feel your pain, The weight of your struggle, the depth of your suffering, The torment you endure, I won’t try in vain To understand what it’s like to be in your chair
No matter how I sympathize, Even though I aim to lead with empathy, There is no way of truly living With your fear or knowing what you go through, But ours is a table of giving.
Knowing full well that whatever we share, I can never fully go there, to be in your seat. Your story – it is yours, yours alone, And it is your truth, it is where we meet.
I will greet you where you are, I want to assure you, you are not alone, In this space of sanctuary, we cast off masks, And let our true selves be known.
The door is open, the table set, If chairs are few or the table short, We’ll extend both, like open hearts, To ensure you find love and support.
So join me, my new friend, In this place where, Even if there is not enough room, We’ll always find another chair For you.
Last week I enrolled in an in-depth Indian cooking class, which took place at the Space of Mind in Delray Beach. So before I tell you about the butter chicken and all that wonderful stuff, let’s look at their cooking class schedule, so you can see what’s coming up. So, whether you’d like to learn to cook lobster ravioli or perhaps beef bourguignon, there are really great classes that come to a grand finale, of course, with a lovely dinner at the end of the class.
Right in the heart of Delray, The Space of Mind building is a beautiful place to spend time, and many homeschool students take classes there during the day. The space opens up for adult classes and activities in the evenings. Whether it’s young home schoolers working on a recording of Bohemian Rhapsody or adults enjoying a night of comedy or families doing meditation, there are a lot of great offerings in this space. Check it out!
When my friend Tosca and I approached the building, we were promptly greeted by Rima, who was assisting Chef Deb Dickinson (pictured above) for the evening. In a very organized fashion, we were given aprons with our nametags and set up at our cooking table. Chef Deb was a great instructor, and I learned some valuable basic kitchen skills from this lesson, like how to properly grip a chef’s knife. And the best and most efficient way to cut an onion. We also learned how to handle garlic and control the level of garlic flavor that goes into a dish. Good stuff for any budding chef to know! Oh, by the way, it’s BYOB. Everything else is included.
We started by making Saag Paneer, a popular Indian dish that involves spinach and toasted paneer cheese. We chopped, mixed and cooked the ingredients right at our table on Bunsen Burners. Chef Deb came around to inspect our process. So far, so good. After a while, Chef Deb whisked away our pots from the stoves and set them aside. We turned to the next assignment Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani), which happens to be my go-to Indian dish when I eat at an Indian restaurant.
Toasting the cheese for the Saag Paneer
The Butter Chicken is a complex dish, where you first marinate the chicken and then make the Makhani sauce, a 17-ingredient concoction. Thanks to Chef Deb and Rima, we had everything pre-measured and portioned out for us at the table. The scent of the spices cooking was heavenly, which included cinnamon sticks, coriander, cloves, bay leaves, ginger and other tasty ingredients. The quartered tomatoes took about twenty minutes to cook, which gave Chef Deb the opportunity to share some more cooking secrets and stories with us.
Some ingredients for the Butter Chicken sauce
Meanwhile, Chef Deb had already prepared the Cardamom Scented Basmati Rice, so we didn’t have to worry about that part. There was definitely enough to do with the Saag Paneer and the Butter Chicken, so we were almost always busy at our stations.
The final recipe of the evening was an interesting and very delicious dessert, Indian Carrot Pudding (Gajar Ka Halwa). This has a wonderful custardy flavor and incorporates ghee, shredded carrots, whole milk, ground cardamom, sugar and cashews.
Throughout the evening, Chef Deb did a terrific job explaining how to do things and punctuating parts of our “Foodie Road Trip to India” with interesting stories. Everything at our cooking table was thoroughly planned out.
Finally, the much-awaited time of the night came…dinner was served! We sat down with our classmates and enjoyed the delicious fruits of our labor. The Saag Paneer was just perfect. The Butter Chicken was spicy and creamy at the same time. The highlight of the meal was that Indian Carrot Pudding, but it was all so good.
They had thought of everything and as soon as we took our last bite, they brought Tupperware to the table, so we could take home leftovers. Overall, it was an entertaining and educational evening! If you want to take on a cooking challenge with a very talented chef to lead the way, I highly recommend this experience.
Tosca, stirring up the pot while Chef Deb talks about an upcoming cooking class. Yum!
