Who:               School Twinning Delegation from Israel’s TZAHAR Region (Tzfat, Hatzor Haglilit and Rosh Pina) are meeting with their greater Palm Beach counterparts. This is an exciting bi-annual opportunity to speak directly with Northern Israeli teachers visiting from the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s Partnership 2Gether program region.

What:              Since 2001, teachers from the greater PalmBeaches and Israel’s TZAHAR Region have engaged in an educator’s exchange bringing teachers and education directors from Tzahar and the greater PalmBeaches together annually. Growing out of the exchange is a School Twinning program pairing students and teachers from schools in Israel and the United States to share lessons and pen pal programs.  This year, Israel’s teachers are visiting their twinned classrooms at local religious schools and the Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy.  They will also be exploring educational techniques at two area public schools, Wynnebrook Elementary in West Palm Beach and Marsh Pointe Elementary in Palm BeachGardens.

The educators exchange program is coordinated by the Lorraine and Jack N. Friedman Commission for Jewish Education of the Palm Beaches (Friedman CJE) in cooperation with  Partnership 2Gether (P2G). P2G is an initiative of the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) that provides a platform for the successful global partnership of Jewish and Israeli communities.  It is built on the idea of a shared Jewish future and a vision for global Jewish peoplehood.  The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County is building a flourishing future based on strong Jewish identity, youth leadership, culture and tradition with Israel’s TZAHAR Region.  Through the partnership, meaningful and enduring personal relationships are being created, awareness about what unites us as a people is being raised, and bridges are being built between communities on both sides of the ocean.

Wellington Rotary Donates items to Kids Cancer Center

RotaryClub2

The Rotary Club of Wellington FL continued its “hands on” community service projects on March 31, 2014.  Many members of the Club attended a tour of the Kids Cancer Center in Royal Palm Beach.  The executive director of the center, Michele Boyle, gave the members of the club a tour of the facility.  She also described what the center does for children who are diagnosed with all forms of cancer.    The center, which is privately funded, acts as a “triage” center for children, siblings, and parents once a child is diagnosed with cancer.  The center works in conjunction with Palms West Hospital to let the child’s family understand about the journey they are about to embark on.  This includes treatment information, insurance assistance, and other services to make the situation easier to understand.  It also serves as a recreation center for the children and their siblings as they deal with this disease.

The center has just set up a Nutrition Kitchen to help the children understand how to eat healthy as well as giving them the opportunity to prepare healthy meals and snacks.  The Rotary Club of Wellington donated (3) fruit and vegetable juicers, a convection oven, and other miscellaneous items to help the staff and children more effectively prepare healthy food and snacks that will help with their treatments.   The Rotary Club also presented the center with a “Four Way Test Plaque” which embodies the principles that Rotarians follow on a daily basis.  The kids at the center also presented the Rotary members with a certificate of thank you for the gifts they received.  Finally a commemorative plaque stating that the Nutrition Center was donated by The Rotary Club of Wellington will be presented at a later date.

Rotarian Robert “Bob” Rebennack was recently honored by the Rotary Club of Wellington FL for celebrating 60 years of perfect attendance.  Bob is a full- time member of the Rotary Club of Kingston, Pennsylvania but spends his winter months in Wellington.  According to the bylaws of Rotary International, a member gets credit for attendance at any other Rotary Club in the world as long it is verified by the hosting club.  The member then submits the attendance form to his home club to make sure he gets attendance credit.

Bob and his wife Ann have been “wintering” in Wellington for over 30 years and Bob was involved early on in the founding of the Rotary Club of Wellington in the 1980’s.  Bob has also been very involved in the community of Wellington since then.

Bob was recently honored by The Rotary Club of Wellington at its recent fellowship dinner at The Wanderers Club on Thursday March 28th, 2014.  He was awarded with a plaque by President Larry Kemp in commemoration of this achievement.  Everyone congratulated Bob and wished him well as he continues to pursue other attendance goals he has set.
