Village of Wellington: Water Disinfection Process

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WATER DISINFECTION PROCESS

Residents of Wellington, Wycliffe, Farmington Estates and Victoria Groves may notice a slight chlorine taste and odor in their drinking water during the period October 14ththrough October 23rd, 2013.  This is due to a temporary change in the water disinfection process.

The water disinfection process in the above areas will change from the present combined chlorine treatment to a temporary free chlorine treatment. Periodic use of this temporary treatment process is recommended by the Health Department as a precautionary measure to ensure that water to customers remains free of bacteria.  These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects.

Due to the temporary change in the disinfection process, specialized users of water (such as tropical fish owners, residents with pools, businesses, hospitals, and blood/dialysis clinics) may need to make adjustments in order to continue to maintain their present water quality parameters.

The temporary treatment process will be discontinued on October 23rd, 2013 and treatment will revert to the pre-existing combined chlorine treatment process.

To learn more about your water, our Water Quality Report is posted on our website at www.wellingtonfl.gov

If you have any questions, please call Karla Berroteran (Water Treatment Facility Supervisor) at 791-4037 or Bill Riebe (Village Engineer) at 791-4000

Hi-Tech Plumbing Continues to Support the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Hi-Tech Plumbing, one of the few woman-owned plumbing companies in the country, once again will support the fight against breast cancer during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company will donate 5 percent of the entire month’s sales to Your Bosom Buddies II.

This year, the fight is personal for co-owner Jathynia Garcia.

“This group was a Godsend when I was diagnosed,” says Garcia. “The first person I called was Lorna Johnson, their vice president. She’s been my bosom buddy the whole time. She’s been there for me through every step. Especially since I’ve personally been touched by this life battle this year, I take pride in supporting Your Bosom Buddies II and advocating to young women the importance of prevention and early detection.”

Garcia chose Your Bosom Buddies II because of the personal support and peace of mind gives to women diagnosed with breast cancer.  The organization provides emotional support to those who need it as well as direct support to assist those diagnosed with cancer with basic treatment needs.

U.S. Marine Veteran Helps Fight Against Obesity in Wellington

Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness of Wellington

Managing Partner, Fred Roger, M.B.A.

By Sherri Mraz

From fighting the war on terrorism to now fighting the war on obesity, U.S. Marine Veteran Fred Roger is now the local owner of Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness franchise.

Fred Roger, local owner of Dr. G’s Weight Loss in Wellington (in the Whole Foods plaza on 441)

In 2006, Fred Roger separated from the United States Marine Corps and set forth in his transition back to the civilian community. He attended Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship earning an M.B.A in entrepreneurship. A start-up franchising company based in Fort Lauderdale, FL recruited Fred to help build the corporate infrastructure of this new international venture, Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness Franchising Companies. He worked closely with Dr. Charles “Dr. G” Goldsmith and served as the Director of Training and Product Development for several years. In 2013, Fred shifted his focus back to his hometown and is now providing weight loss solutions for Palm Beach County as the managing partner of several local Dr. G’s centers.

The Story of Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness

Dr. Charles Goldsmith, the Founder of Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness Franchising Companies, first became interested in Obesity at Temple University over 40 years ago. As a 3rd year pre-med student, he conducted experiments in various behaviors, including eating behaviors, by electrically stimulating discreet centers of the brain. It became clear to him that the problem of Obesity was not simply a lack of willpower. He learned that the central nervous system, endocrine system, and genetics were major factors. Thus began a life long interest in the medical aspects of Obesity.

After graduating Jefferson Medical College in 1973, Dr. Goldsmith started his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at JMH/UM. In 1977, he began his career as a private practitioner in OB/GYN. During his 30 plus years of practice, he repeatedly heard from his patients that it was very difficult to lose weight and keep it off. This reignited his interest in Obesity and its related disorders.

Meanwhile the problem with obesity in the U.S. was reaching epidemic proportions and the link to Diabetes, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis, many cancers, issues of self-esteem and clinical depression was all too apparent.

Then in 1993, Dr. G became acquainted with a European weight loss system that combined natural herbal compounds with prescription medication that resulted in decreasing appetite, increasing metabolism and promoted a holistic approach to the problem of obesity. He took the principles of the program and adapted it to the U.S. market…thus Dr. G’s Weight Loss and Wellness Program was born.

In the beginning, Dr. Goldsmith only offered this program to his own patients, but word of mouth kept bringing people to the practice in droves. The program proved to be so successful, that by 2001, he had to devote his time entirely to this segment of his practice.

Dr. Goldsmith has always believed that because obesity is a serious medical disorder, the “Battle of the Bulge” should be waged with the help and supervision of certified medical physicians. Therefore, he set about developing a system that could be scaleable as a franchise model. His approach and program though would be under close care and medical supervision of a doctor.

What happens during your visit?

The program also provides exercise counseling and stresses that you find the activity that you enjoy doing. Nutritional counseling is also a vital component to the program that teaches you what “real” foods to eat. The supplements give you the increased energy to get you started and keep you motivated.

Who is this program for?

Fright Night at the South Florida Fair

Fright Nights promises to scare up fun at South Florida Fairgrounds

West Palm Beach, Fla. — For those looking for thrills and chills this Halloween season, Fright Nights promises to provide that and more at the South Florida Fairgrounds’ “ Scream Park ” over three weekends: Oct. 10-12, Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26. The midway opens at 6 p.m. and for those who dare to enter one of four haunted houses, that adventure begins at 7 p.m. Closing time on Thursdays is 11 p.m. and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

“This event is about the haunted houses,” said Craig McInnis, creative director of Fright Nights. “We want you to come out and get your blood pumping … to escape and step into our imaginary world. The main purpose is to scare people, which sounds devious, but that’s what we get a kick out of the most as do the people who attend.”

McInnis added that there is no “safe place” on the event grounds.

“Scary characters will be roaming the grounds, just like on a set of a horror movie,” he said. “There’s no way to avoid the ‘scare zones.’ Anyone is fair game!”

A Monster Bash Costume Party presented by Fright Nights will follow on Oct. 27 from 6 p.m. until midnight. The cover charge is $5 and will give guests the chance to meet the cast and crew. There also will be a “Dead DJ,” dancing, finger foods, beverages and the Grim’s Tale haunted house will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is appropriate for all ages.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to experience Fright Nights. Parents of children under 12 years old may opt to take them to Spookyville, an old-fashioned Halloween event also being held at the South Florida Fairgrounds over two weekends and on Halloween, Oct. 18-20, Oct. 25-27 and Oct. 31. The event, sponsored by South Florida Ford dealers, will offer a full array of safe trick or treats, kiddie rides, games, arts and crafts and pony rides. For more information, call 561-793-0333 or visit the websites, http://www.southfloridafair.com or http://www.myfrightnights.com.
