Wellington Community Playground Equipment Installed In Kenya

Kenya1

Last year Tiger Shark Cove Park was renovated and new playground structures were installed. Prior to the reconstruction, Wellington was contacted by Alex DeLange. Ms. DeLange read an article in the Palm Beach Post about the upcoming renovation project and requested that the used equipment be donated to KenyaRelief.org. Wellington’s used playground equipment had found a new home in Migori, Kenya.  KenyaRelief.org partners with Kenyans to provide such things as medical assistance, supplies, education and vocational training.

Kenya3

Wellington was delighted to provide the equipment to the children.  Bruce DeLaney, Director of Parks and Recreation cooperated with Ms. DeLange to arrange for the equipment to be shipped via cargo container and installed near an orphanage in Migori, Kenya. Ms. DeLange stated that “American children are blessed to be able to enjoy state of the art recreational areas, but in Africa, our old is new.” Below are pictures of the children playing on their “new” playground equipment. “Wellington is proud to be able to repurpose our equipment to provide recreational opportunities for the children in Kenya,” said Bruce DeLaney.

May, 2013 – Lake Worth Playhouse and Delray Beach Playhouse

COMMUNITY THEATRE BUILT TO LAST
JOINT RELEASE:

LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE AND DELRAY BEACH PLAYHOUSE

In an age where theatres ebb and flow with the changing economy, community theatre has stood the test of time in Palm BeachCounty. The two oldest theatres in Palm BeachCounty are both community theatres, showing the dedication of the South Florida community to supporting local arts as both celebrate the close of highly successful anniversary seasons.

ABOUT LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE (60 Years of Theatre Excellence) – On December 1, 1953, the Lake Worth Playhouse was incorporated by a group of Lake Worth citizens looking to bring theatre to the heart of Palm Beach County. In October 1975, the Lake Worth Playhouse purchased the Oakley Theatre, the oldest building on the register of the Art Deco Society of Palm Beach County. Today, the Playhouse is proud to offer a variety of mainstream and alternative programming, both live and on film. The Playhouse also offers educational programs for adults and children, and community outreach initiatives that bring cultural programs into the neighborhoods of underserved youth, and also make theatre available free of charge for disadvantaged citizens in the community. Year-round programming includes award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals, area premieres, Broadway favorites, children’s shows, international ballets and operas in cinema, live concert series and alternative programming. Lake Worth Playhouse has become an artistic milestone. We are proud to be called the home of talented artists and performers, dedicated volunteers and a loyal and ever-growing population of patrons and donors.
LOCATED: 713 Lake Ave – Lake Worth, FL33460 – 561-586-6410

ABOUT DELRAY BEACH PLAYHOUSE (66 Years of Theatre Excellence) – The idea of The Delray Beach Playhouse began in 1942, when a group of citizens met in Delray Beach with the idea that the community would support local theatre. In its first year, The Delray Beach Playhouse presented five plays. When the County Commission made land available on Lake Ida, the group held a drive to raise enough funds to build their own building. Robert Blake, a local architect and one of the original members designed the structure which was ready for the 1957-58 Season. Today stands what is considered one of the top-rated community theatres in the country: a 238 seat auditorium, expansive his and her dressing rooms with bathrooms and showers, a full complement of technical and administrative spaces, a prop loft, a 4,000 square foot children’s theatre and the Warrington Room, a “black box” rehearsal studio. The Delray Beach Playhouse is stronger and more exciting than ever, boasting thousands of members, hundreds of actors and volunteers bringing live theatre for all ages.

Zoo educators will provide outdoor lessons: activities featuring live animals and behind-the-scenes tours that are tailored to Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine Standards and follow the Scope and Sequence schedule for Science as recommended by the Palm BeachCountySchool District.

The week of May 13th a 5th grade class from CO Taylor/Kirklane Elementary will be at the Zoo attending ZooSchool.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce recently had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Tru Art Studios located at 13800 Bottlebrush Court #D, Wellington, Florida.   Anthony Paul  is the Director/Owner of the business with the help of his wife Cheryl.  If you are looking for that unique, memorable piece of artwork to hang on your wall or to give as a gift, Tru Art Studios is the place you should visit.

Anthony was born and raised in Rockland County, New York.   After graduating from college, he worked at Lederle Laboratories where he was part of  the Centrum Vitamin team.  He started as a tablet press mechanic and worked his way up.  He helped  build an industry standard machine to deliver vitamins to the market and also was on a creative team developing shapes for the Sea World character vitamins.

After 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Anthony went into the music entertainment industry.  For ten years, he worked with various artists and consulted on projects including one for Alicia Keys.

In 2007, Anthony and his wife moved to WPB and then later to Wellington.  He said he and his wife decided to make a change in their lives.  They wanted to work with local artists.   Being a photographer he wanted to turn his photos into paintings.  “We had a lot of photos we transferred into paintings and that’s when I started to love what I was doing.  I’ve been doing it now for five years.”  Tru Art Studios currently works with about 5-6 local artists.

Anthony said that Tru Art Studios’ clientele is mostly homeowners who like to decorate their homes.  They focus on converting photos of horses, pets, self portraits and family shots into paintings.  Anthony notes that they can turn anything a client wants into art.    In addition, they produce a finished product.  Anthony  stretches and frames all the artwork so when he delivers the art, it’s ready to be hung on wall.  He added that they have competitive prices as well.

For more information about Tru Art Studios call 561.633.5965. The email is info@truartstudios.com and you can visit their website at www.truartstudios.com.   For more information about businesses in the WellingtonFlorida area, call 561.792.6525 or visit the NEW  Wellington Chamber of Commerce website at www.WellingtonChamber.com.
