“100 Cities Summit” Celebrate Milestone
April 23, 2013 (Loxahatchee, Fla.) Celebrating its fifth year, the annual Florida Green, Energy & Climate Conference/ 100 Cities Summit is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, May 22nd and 23rd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The Conference is coordinated by the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Palm BeachCounty and the United State Green Building Council. Attended by municipal, county and school district sustainability leaders from throughout the state, attendees enjoy two days of intensive general sessions and panel discussions by experts in the field of sustainability.
This year’s keynote speaker Patrick J. Sheehan, Director of Florida’s Office of Energy , will be speaking on ways Florida is moving forward in its collective efforts to develop a meaningful energy policy for the state. He will be accompanied by a bi-partisan legislative panel, including Senators Joseph Abruzzo and Jeff Clemens and Representative Lori Berman who will provide an update on the 2013 legislative session in Tallahassee. Other featured speakers include Julio Fuentes, President of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, John Kinney, CEO of Clean Fund in California, Jennifer Dunham of Arsenal Venture Partners, Kim Delaney, Strategic Development Coordinator for the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council and Raphael Clemente, Executive Director of the Downtown Development Authority.
Among the many subjects featured this year at the conference is Balanced Energy Florida. This presentation will highlight a portfolio of fuels that collectively promote fuel diversity and provide price stability for Florida families and business in an environmentally sensible manner. The challenges of Florida’s regulatory environment will be discussed and alternatives to conventional practices explored by a panel of industry experts. Florida cities, including Wellington, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Fellsmere and Brooksville will discuss their successful public/private partnerships which have provided environmentally sound solutions and economic sustainability for their cities. The importance of promoting Florida’s assets and attracting investors to the state is also be on the agenda. Robin Safley, Director of the Florida Department of Agriculture’s Division of Food, Nutrition & Wellness leads a panel of experts from the health industry, farming, schools and government on raising a healthy generation of students. The economic impact of climate change will also be discussed by two of the county’s leaders on the subject.

Young Singers of the Palm Beaches will present “Broadway Artists Studio,” a three-week musical theater intensive workshop for pre-teens and teens, July 15-August 3, 2013, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, West Palm Beach. All levels of voice, acting and dance will be presented by professional faculty direct from Broadway, with combined experience of over 35 shows. Singers of the Palm Beaches, will present “Ubuntu”, a special 10th Anniversary performance at the Annual Spring Concert on May 19. Young Singers of the Palm Beaches is Palm BeachCounty’s award winning community chorus featuring 300 of the area’s most talented voices spanning ages 8 – 18. “Ubuntu”, a South African concept meaning a person is a person through other people, will dazzle the audience with the power of connection and community through chorus.

Party for the Planet this Weekend at the Palm Beach Zoo
APRIL 18, 2013, WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – The Palm Beach Zoo along with more than 120 of the top zoos and aquariums across North America are throwing the 7th Annual Party for the Planet™ – the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America this weekend (April 20 & 21).
“Every year, AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums welcome more than 180 million visitors who have an interest in connecting with wildlife, learning about nature, and becoming involved in protecting the future of our Earth,” said AZA President & CEO Jim Maddy. “By participating in the Party for the Planet™ at your local zoo or aquarium, you are making a difference by helping to support conservation locally and worldwide.”
Party for the Planet will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 & 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Activities will include performances by the Pied Piper of Percussion: Steve Gryb in the FountainPlaza, wildlife shows, keeper talks and roving animal encounters, recycled crafts in the Florida Pioneer House, and children’s games focusing on the importance of recycling and environmental protection.
Saturday will also feature the rededication of the Zoo’s ButterflyGarden. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will celebrate the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs naming the Zoo’s butterfly garden an official butterfly sanctuary. The West Palm Beach Garden Club worked tirelessly to revamp and replant the area for the enjoyment of Zoo guests and of course, the butterflies.
In partnership with Waste Management of Florida, Inc. and Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County, the Zoo will collect e-waste for proper disposal. When guests drop off an e-waste item this Saturday or Sunday in the WM Bagster located in the Zoo’s main parking lot, they will receive a $2.00 discount on their day’s admission. Items such as cell phones, electronic personal organizers, game consoles, printers, scanners, monitors, computers, answering machines, televisions, radios, etc. are eligible for the discount.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce recently had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for TSG Realty located at 12230 Forest Hill Boulevard, Suite 157, Wellington, Florida. The office is headed by Ivan Velasquez who has many years experience in real estate and in marketing which helps him move properties quickly. Ivan Velasquez was born and raised in Bogota, Columbia. He earned at B.A. in Marketing and Advertising from Politécnico Grancolumbiano in Bogota. After he graduated, he worked as an account manager with the largest travel agency in South America managing sales, marketing and public relations. Two years later he began work at the Radisson handling sales and big groups that came to their convention center. He briefly owned and operated his own advertising agency with a friend in Bogota but discontinued the business in 2000 in order to move to Miami.
Once in Miami, Ivan began working with his father who owned Home Healthcare Agency which was based in Miami. He was in charge of all the company’s marketing. He also attended FloridaInternationalUniversity at that time to study international business.
In 2003, Ivan became a mortgage broker with a small company and in 2005 he opened his own mortgage business. As the real estate market started dramatically changing, Ivan activated his real estate sales license in 2009 and he started working with Keyes Realty. In 2011, he began working with TSG Realty. In 2012, Ivan opened the doors at the Wellington location.
In describing the business, Ivan said that TSG Realty is one of several affiliates of The Solution Group which is based in Miami and was established in 2008. The website reads as follow: “The Solution Group (“TSG”) is the premier wholesaler of distressed real estate in South Florida.” It also states that it has “developed and successfully implemented a Distressed Assets Program to maximize return on investment in the local South Florida Market after the real estate boom.”
Ivan said that The Solution Group has investors who are primarily from Latin America and Spain and his company manages their real estate investments. The Solution Group found much success in Miami so they expanded into Broward and Palm BeachCounties. Ivan was contacted when the company was expanding to Palm BeachCounty and soon after he became the first person to represent the company in this area.
When describing himself, Ivan said, “I have a lot of experience. I am very familiar with mortgages and very familiar with real estate. I am active all of the time so I know what’s going on with the market. I’m not just buying distressed properties, I’m also putting them back on the market for rent. I also average five to six closings every month. And I am bilingual so I am here for the Latin Community too.”
