The Best Burger of the Palm Beaches: Foster’s Grille – Home of the Charburger

Foster’s Grille, Voted #1 by our AroundWellington readers

11071 Southern Blvd. (in the Costco Plaza), Royal Palm Beach, FL ~

561-333-6720

By Saucy Sarah

The votes are in and the winner of AroundWellington.com’s “Best Burger of the Palm Beaches” is: Foster’s Grille, Home of the Charburger. I couldn’t agree more with our voters. I have made the pilgrimage to Royal Palm Beach for one of their perfectly cooked burgers quite often.

The Foster's Charburger, voted Best Burger of the Palm Beaches

Foster’s is a friendly restaurant tucked into the Southern Palms Crossing Shopping Center in Royal Palm Beach. When you enter, you are handed an order sheet where you can customize your burger experience any way you want with endless toppings. The burgers, any way you crave them, are mouthwatering. You can circle your burger toppings (Mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, etc.), choose your cheese (American, cheddar, provolone, pepper jack, Swiss, etc.) and add on even more (hot sauce, BBQ sauce, grilled onions, bacon, chili, mushrooms).

They have a knack for getting an incredible char on the outside of the

burger and keeping the interior moist and juicy. Their fries are also notable – fresh cut and fried to perfection.  You can also substitute their hand-cut fries for onion rings, a side salad or a fruit cup, but this is not recommended for first-timers. In other words, you must try their home-made, perfectly-done fries.

Other options from the menu include wings (just 70 cents per wing from 4pm to 7pm), a Philly Cheesesteak, a grilled hot dog, turkey sandwich, garden burger, turkey burger and extra thick milkshakes.

Every time I go in, I notice how quiet, yet busy the place is. I realized that everyone was enjoying their meal too much to talk. Their classic ½ pound charburger is hard to finish in one sitting, but you will want to. One of their slogans, as you’ll see throughout the restaurant, is “Too Big for Two Hands.” For those who cannot handle the size of their Olde Fashioned Charburger, they can order a smaller burger off of the Kid’s Menu – the Lil’ Charburger.

Folks, we are very lucky to have a Foster’s here in Palm Beach County, as there are only two other Foster’s Grille locations in Florida – in Fort Myers and in Cape Coral.  There’s something very special about Foster’s, and that’s what our readers have been telling us with their votes over the past month.

AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS BRINGS AUTHOR TO LIFE FEBRUARY 19 AT THE KRAVIS CENTER

Celebrated Actor David Payne Presents an Intimate Evening of Heart and Humor in One-Man Show

(January 28, 2013) WEST PALM BEACH-Fans of theater anddavid_payne_as_c_s_lewis_-_wpb1 literature alike have the chance to discover the life and personality of author C.S. Lewis February 19 at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. An Evening with C.S. Lewis, the one-man show by critically acclaimed British actor David Payne, reveals the man behind such classics as The Screwtape Letters and The Chronicles of Narnia.

The year is 1963 and C. S. Lewis, the famous British author, is in the twilight years of his life. Following a request from his great friend, J. R. R. Tolkien, he has agreed to give an informal talk to a group of American writers who are visiting England. What follows is a riveting performance showing the oratorical and narrative genius that made Lewis a legend in his own lifetime, and revealing the inspiring history of the author’s family and spiritual life.

Payne, whose audition for the stage production of Shadowlands led to a career in theater, bases much of his work on the life and works of the author he so perfectly portrays.  During rehearsals for Shadowlands he was given a copy of A Grief Observed, Lewis’ diary of grief following the death of his American wife, Joy.   Captivated by the brutal honesty of a man bearing his soul, Payne memorized the whole book and then adapted it into a one-man show, Mist in the Mourning.   He toured this production extensively throughout the US, where he was often peppered with questions about C.S. Lewis.  It was then that Payne wrote An Evening with C.S. Lewis, basing the show around the audience’s questions, and the pivotal occurrences in Lewis’ life.

An Evening with C.S. Lewis takes place at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday, February 19 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and may be purchased at the Kravis Center Box Office at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach, by calling 561-832-7469 or through the Official Kravis Center Website at www.kravis.org. Karate students practice kangeiko

Wellington, FL, January 6, 2013: 6:00am, eight studentsbeach_karate_116 from the Genbu-Kai Karate school, met at Ocean Ridge Park in North Palm Beach to practice Kangeiko. Kangeiko, loosely translated, means “winter training.” This type of training is a special test of endurance, and forges character development within the participants. It’s also an excellent way for the students to form new friendships. In Japan, Kangeiko is practiced outside, in the snow during the winter. Sensei Moore often held Kangeiko in his New York schools before moving to Florida. While some parents thought it was crazy to practice outside in the snow and cold, the students loved it and looked forward to it each year. SUMMER CAMPS AND MORE

AT THE MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE

PAUL AND SANDRA GOLDNER
CONSERVATORY OF PERFORMING ARTS

Junior and Senior Conservatory campers will present the full musicals
Aladdin, Jr. and Little Shop of Horrors onstage

January 28, 2013 (Jupiter) – Children in Pre-K through 12th grade have a reason to celebrate this spring and summer break: the return of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s popular Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts camp programs!

With a flexible schedule that includes optional pre-care and after-care, budding young performers will participate in a broad range of theatre-related activities, including acting, dancing, singing, prop-making, improvisation, storytelling and more. Each summer camp concludes with a themed showcase performance, with the summer’s two largest shows – the Senior Conservatory’s Little Shop of Horrors and the Junior Conservatory’s Aladdin, Jr. – taking place this summer only in Jupiter Community High School’s 800-seat auditorium.

“Our vacation camps have something for everyone, from dance, magic and musical theatre to comedy,” said Julie Rowe, director of education for the Conservatory. “Our goal is to make sure that all of our students have fun, build confidence, express their creativity and have the opportunity to experience being part of a performance.”

A great way to introduce young children to theatre, the Conservatory’s vacation camp offerings include a secret agent-themed spring break camp (March 25 – 29) and the beloved Junior and Senior Conservatory summer camps (grades 3-5 and 6-12). The Senior Conservatory will take place June 10 – 28 (with full performances of Little Shop of Horrors on June 28 and 29), while the Junior Conservatory will take place July 8 – 26 (with a full performance of Aladdin, Jr. on July 26).

“We are so thrilled that our Junior and Senior Conservatory campers will have the opportunity to perform onstage this year in the large, beautiful auditorium at Jupiter Community High School, while some exciting renovations occur at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre,” Rowe said. “Our Conservatory students will also be presenting the musical Oklahoma! there this May, with performances scheduled for May 18 and 19.”

Other camp options include a four-day Monster Mash Camp for grades K-5 and a four-day Discover Disney Camp for Pre-K students age 4 and 5 (both July 1 – 5); a one-week Dr. Seuss Camp for grades K-5 (July 29 – Aug. 6); a one-week Super Sea Creatures Camp for grades K-5 (August 5-9); and a two-week Dance Intensive Camp for grades 6-12 (July 29 – Aug. 9).
