September, 2012 – Wellington Water Disinfection

Wellington Water Disinfection Begins September 1st

Wellington water utility customers may notice a slight chlorine taste and odor in their drinking water from Saturday, September 1st through Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 as the result of a temporary change in the water disinfection process. During this period, the disinfection process will change from the normal combined chlorine/ammonia treatment to a free chlorine treatment. Periodic use of this temporary treatment process is recommended by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American Water Works Association as a precautionary measure to ensure that water remains free of bacteria. These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects.

Due to this temporary change, specialized users of water, such as tropical fish owners, residents with pools, businesses, hospitals, and blood/dialysis clinics may need to make adjustments to maintain their present water quality parameters. Customers may also notice additional fire hydrant flushing by Wellington’s Water Utilities Department personnel during this period. Flushing ensures the free chlorine residual reaches all portions of the distribution system.

This process will be discontinued on September 23rd, 2012 and treatment will revert back to the normal combined chlorine/ammonia process.

Thanks to Once a Month Charities and Costco there were plenty of cold drinks and tasty treats for the kids and families to snack on. Once a Month Charities also provided backpacks for the kids filled with school supplies. Joey’s Outback Adventures sent their mascot “Joey” the Kangaroo to pay a visit and hand out toys that they had collected at their “Christmas in July” Event. Nutritionist Cindy Collins & Chef Debbie Appleseed stopped in to talk about healthy school lunches & snacks and to bring some healthy treats for the kids and families to sample. The Girl Scouts and TJ Spirit Zone provided fun craft projects and American Heritage High Schools National Honor Society came by to lend a hand at the event.

All the children and families were able to enjoy an afternoon of fun far removed from the doctor’s office and hospital and best of all, they had an opportunity to just have a great time being a “kid”. The event was a pleasant reprieve for the children and their families to just relax and have fun and to, at least momentarily, forget their daily struggle battling childhood cancer.

The Small Business RoundTable Presents

Peter Fogel – “The Reinvention Guy”

At Their September Session Titled

The Art of Self-Reinvention Through Motivation

The Small Business RoundTable is presenting a humorous, informative, and interactive session with Speaker, Author, Corporate Trainer, Andpeterfogelheadshot Reinvention Expert Peter Fogel – “The Reinvention Guy.”  Peter will discuss motivation, reinventing oneself, attaining goals, and coping with reality – all sprinkled with humor.  Blanca Greenstein of Morris Laing Evans Brock & Kennedy, Chtd. will be the moderator.  The session takes place Thursday, September 13th from 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm at the Binks Forest Golf Club, Wellington, Florida.  A mixer is scheduled at the beginning of the evening with drinks and hors d’oeuvres.  The presentation will begin about 6 pm.

Peter’s career started in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Years later, this same career took him into  Corporate America.  As a comedian in the nightclubs of Las Vegas years ago, he opened for such comedy luminaries as Jimmy “J.J.” Walker, Rita Rudner, and Louis Black.  He also performed on or worked for 22 shows including Married With Children, Unhappily Ever After, and Comic Strip Live plus performed on cruise ships.  Peter acknowledges that he was living a full life; he was having fun and taking on the all the risks that came along with that type of career.

After turning 40 however, Peter admits he had a mid-life crisis and  states, “I was successful, but yet, if you looked at my career it had more peaks and valleys than an EKG graph!”  He felt burned out from the gypsy lifestyle of a performer.  It was then he decided to make a drastic 180 degree change and reinvented himself into an advertising copywriter.

Using his background as an actor and writer, Peter discovered he had a knack for persuading people to buy products and he thereby became an in-demand  sales writer for such multi-million dollar companies such as Vital Max Vitamins, Renaissance Health, Bio-Centric Health, Gold and Energy Report, and Agora Publishing.

Later, Peter realized he wanted to help others reach true fulfillment through personal growth, change, and reinvention – so he became an author.  His first book is titled If Not Now… Then When – Stories and Strategies of People Over 40 Who Have Successfully Reinvented Themselves.  His latest book is Reboot Your Career – 27 Ways to Reinvent Yourself in the Workplace (If You Still Have a Job).

Today Peter is a Reinvention Expert who teaches entrepreneurs, business owners, corporate managers, and employees how to tap into all of their available skills in order to achieve their business and life goals.

The cost for the session is $10.  Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by September 7th by calling 561.792.6525 or visiting www.WellingtonChamber.com.  For any questions, contact Michela Perillo-Green, Executive Director, Wellington Chamber of Commerce at [email protected].  Also visit www.reinventyourselfnow.com and http://www.reinventyourselfnow.com/speaker-demo/media-and-videos/ for information about Peter Fogel.

The Target School Spree will help kids selected by The Salvation Army to gear up for the 2012 academic year. Each child will receive an $80 Target GiftCard to purchase needed school supplies.

“The Target School Spree is a great opportunity to help students in need prepare for the new school year,” said Laysha Ward, President, Community Relations, Target. “Each year, we look forward to teaming up with The Salvation Army to provide students with the back-to-school supplies they need to have a successful school year and stay on the path to graduation.”

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT’S BIZCAMP 2012 IMPACTS COUNTY’S YOUTH

Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast ran their annual JA BizCamp for 4 weeks at the Rosarian Academy in downtown West Palm Beach from July 9 – August 3.  The JA BizCamp Program teaches the values, skills and attitudes students need to compete in the global marketplace.  It immerses young people in a community simulation where they play adult roles and experience the economic consequences of the decisions they make as workers, consumers, philanthropists and business professionals.  The experience brings the realities of the working world and personal finance to life for students and helps them recognize the importance of education in accomplishing personal and professional goals.

“Approximately 350 at-risk and disadvantaged children from 16 Palm Beach County community based organizations attended JA BizCamp thanks to the generous funding provided by Prime Time, PBC and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Trust Fund”,  explained Claudia Kirk Barto, President of Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast.

This past week, the campers were visited by two prominent civic leaders, PBSO’s Chief Deputy Michael Gauger  and Mayor Jeri Muoio of West Palm Beach .  Chief Deputy Gauger stopped by camp to talk to the children about work ethics.  While Gauger was there, he swore in the Mayor of JA BizCamp, Dawson Celucien.  The week’s  Security Officer of JA BizCamp, Deandre Velquez, was given a special PBC Sheriff’s badge to wear while executing his duties during camp.

West Palm Beach’s Mayor Jeri Muoio, also addressed the campers.  The children asked her various questions about the duties that are required of her as the Mayor.  The highlight of the visit was when Mayor Muoio read an official City of West Palm Beach Proclamation, recognizing the first week of August 2012 as “Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast BizCamp Week” in West Palm Beach .  The Proclamation was signed and sealed by the Mayor’s office, and all of the children were thrilled!

Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy through classroom experiential education that focus on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Hendry Counties.
