WXEL to Present National Broadcast Premiere of

ED SULLIVAN’S COMEDY LEGENDS

‘Golden Boy Comes Home’ for June 18 Premiere as

PBS Producer TJ Lubinsky Returns to WXEL

Accompanied by Comedians Rich Little & John Byner

WXEL Pledge Event will be Taped for Use at Other PBS TV Stations Around the Country

(Boynton Beach, FL – June 6, 2011)  WXEL-TV, the area’s public television station, today announced that it would be presenting the national broadcast premiere of ED SULLIVAN’S COMEDY LEGENDS on Saturday, June 18, at 8 p.m.

Celebrity comedians and Ed Sullivan regulars Rich Little and John Byner will co-host the national premiere on WXEL along with renowned PBS producer TJ Lubinsky, who got his professional start at WXEL back in 1993. The three co-hosts will be featured in laugh-filled pledge breaks that will be taped live at WXEL and used later at other PBS TV stations around the country.

Produced by TJ Lubinsky, who previously produced the popular DooWop and My Music specials on PBS, ED SULLIVAN’S COMEDY LEGENDS will feature clips of many of America’s comedy legends, including Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, Joan Rivers, Alan King, Jack Paar, Jackie Gleason, Victor Borge and many more.

For 23 years, The Ed Sullivan Show was watched by millions of Americans every Sunday night on CBS.  ED SULLIVAN’S COMEDY LEGENDS uses archival footage to bring back these comedy giants performing their classic routines on live TV.

Producer TJ Lubinsky worked in production at WXEL-TV from 1993 through 1998, when he left for Pittsburgh’s PBS station, WQED.  Since 1999, he has produced 31 different music specials for PBS, including the DooWop and My Music series, which have been among the most successful music specials in PBS history, and have been particularly effective at reaching the critical Boomer demographic.  His company, TJL Productions, produces the PBS specials.

WXEL President Bernie Henneberg and Mary Pat Lang, Director of Television Production Services, are both excited about the return of “Golden Boy” TJ Lubinsky, and are honored that he selected WXEL for the prestigious national broadcast premiere of his newest special, ED SULLIVAN’S COMEDY LEGENDS.

Lubinsky’s homecoming to WXEL also will include a special reception in his honor hosted by West Palm Beach lawyer Phil DiComo, who was Director of Development at WXEL during TJ’s tenure, and by Debra Tornaben, WXEL Garnet Society Director, and its Leadership Board.

Ask Dr. Z

July/August, 2011

By Laura Zipris, Psy. D., LMHC

Dear Dr. Z.,laura-zipris

My husband and I have been having a really hard time in our marriage and we have begun to fling around the “divorce” word.   At first, I thought we were just going through a rough patch, but it is now years later and we are still arguing all the time.  I’m always crying or yelling trying to get him to hear me but he could care less.  He barely looks at me, more or less responds to what I have to say.  He doesn’t want to have sex with me anymore and I am not sure he even loves me.   I feel like I am alone in this marriage.  I am fighting to keep us alive and all I hear is that I am the problem and that I should just stop being emotional and try leaving him alone.  I am trying to break down his walls but I can’t seem to get through.   I can’t take it or him anymore and I am tired of having to work so hard.   I never wanted to fail at my marriage but he is making things impossible.  What can I do?

Signed,

Pam L.

Dear Pam L.,

It sounds like you and your husband have been in the throes of a lot of “D” words lately – disconnection, discontentment, distress, and despair, leading you to the end of your relationship rope, known as “divorce.”   Divorce is a terminal exit and the place people wind up when they can’t seem to stop the negative dance that they are moving in.   When there is a rupture in our connection with our partner and when we do not feel safe or responded to, there are only two ways of protecting ourselves.  One route is to avoid engagement and numb our emotions so that we can shut down and deny our need for attachment.  Based on your descriptions, it is likely that this is your husband’s modus operandi.  The other involves listening to the anxiety we feel and then frantically fighting for recognition and a response from our partner.  This appears to be how you have been responding.    It is important to understand that these opposing reactions that you and your husband have been displaying are in response to the very same felt “primal panic”:  the fear of isolation and disconnection.   The irony is that the demand-distance loop that you are engaged in is confirming those very fears of disconnection and serves to further isolate you both.

I would strongly encourage you and your husband to seek couples therapy, as soon as possible, so that you may begin to examine your communication patterns and change your relationship dance.   Once you and your husband can learn to stop this destructive dance, you can learn to communicate with one another differently. You will learn techniques so that you can begin to share softer feelings and vulnerabilities in such a way that you both can actually feel safe, feel heard, and reconnect.

Signed,

Dr. “Z”

Wellington Radio Club This Weekend, June 25 and 26

Village Park

This is an invitation for your organization to visit with The Wellington Radio Club this weekend.  It would be to cover our role in a national emergency communications exercise known as Field Day.

You could also go to several other locations to learn about Field Day, but we believe our operation may lend itself best to your needs.  For example, as part of Wellington’s participation, we will be using a bus to house two emergency radio stations.   You would also see antennas that we doubt would be found at other local Field Day sites…  Imagine one over 450 feet long!

This is the 12th year that the City of Wellington has endorsed and supported the WRC’s preparedness efforts.  The Wellington Radio Club has conducted an estimated 12,000 man-hours of preparedness training in that period in direct support of a local government and the Western Communities area.

This is the link to our website, Current Activities-Wellington Radio Club , where there is a news release about this national emergency communications exercise scheduled for 2pm June 25th through 2pm June 26th at Village Park, Wellington.

Please do not hesitate to call for further info or to arrange photo opportunities. Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
Larry Lazar

Call for Happiness Articles Submissions

From One of Our AroundWellington Writers Bryan Hayes

Good morning,
I have a mantra that I “meet the most amazing people every single day.” Fortunately for me, this is the case. I am very lucky to have come across so many inspirational, motivational, funny, and generally happy people.   As you may, or may not, know I am in the process of writing a book.  The book is in essence my story, and the answer to the question I have been asked many times: Why are you always smiling?

The book’s first intention was to be my story, but then I realized that it would be more compelling if I shared other people’s story in separate chapters in between mine.   The reason you are receiving this email because I would love to have your submission.

What I am looking for specifically is your story – whatever you would like to share.   Feel free to answer what happiness means to you, share a story of how you overcame a personal adversity that only made your stronger as well as happier, or your personal strategies of how you live a satisfying life.   You can do so either anonymously or you can include your name, and I will give you credit for your submission.

If you are interested in being a part of my book, the next step is pretty easy.   Just let me know.   The deadline for all submissions to have them to me will be  July 4th.   They will then be sent to my editor who will go through and which ones will be the best fit.  The editor may make modifications but will send it back to you so you can see those, because I want to get your final approval as well.

How long should your submission be?   It’s about the story, not the length, and I really want to capture it much like a photograph.   We can always shorten it, or I may go back and ask if you could include more detail but more than anything else I’d love to have you as part of a project that is near and dear to my heart.

Sincerely,

~ Bryan Hayes

Award-Winning Product for Infants from Local Moms

Two local moms are named TOP 50 MOMPRENUERS of 2011 according to Babble.com, a well known website for parents!  Caroline Epstein and Carrie Garramone created an award-winning infant product, Time to Play Baby- A Year of Baby Classes in a Box!

Time to Play Baby has also been awarded the iParenting Media Award and the MOMS Best Award!  Both of these selective awards strive to provide the “best” products available today on the market for prenatal, infant, toddler, children, tweens, teens, and for dads, and grandparents.

Caroline is a former Palm Beach County teacher.  Carrie is a realtor at Coldwell Banker- Wellington.  When having their children they encountered the challenges of attending mommy and baby classes because of inconvenient class times or no accommodations for older children while the moms were in the class with infants.  Caroline and Carrie were determined to create a program that allowed all parents to enjoy the benefits of developmental play sessions in the convenience of their own homes.  Whether mom has to work outside the home, can’t afford the classes, has multiple children or has a caregiver to use, Time to Play Baby is a great alternative to those traditional Mommy and Me Classes.  Their goal is help families save time, money and stress.

Time to Play Baby is an interactive and innovative DVD sold in a kit with 10 toys to develop infant skills.  For more information about the product please visit www.TimetoPlayBaby.com.
