DIVAS CAPtivate GUESTS AT 25th ANNIVERSARY
Comprehensive AIDS Program Celebrates 25 Years of Serving Palm Beach County
( West Palm Beach , Fl) More than 400 friends and supporters of the Comprehensive AIDS Program of Palm Beach County, Inc., (CAP) kicked up their Jimmy Choos at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in West Palm Beach to honor CAP’s milestone 25th Anniversary of serving Palm Beach County at CAPtivating Divas.   The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by Diva-luscious entertainment. 
International songstress Avery Sommers, courtesy of Rob Russell, Entertainment Director of the Colony Hotel on Palm Beach, kicked off her new CD and got the party started on Sunday night with rousing and joyful strains of Hair’s Age of Aquarius.  The Diva of Palm Beach, Ms. Melissa St. John and her cast of Divas Galore lit up the stage in the high-energy drag show while dancing all night long to tunes from the past and today. 
“Since its inception in 1985, CAP has grown into one of the most successful community-based HIV/AIDS service organizations in the nation,” said Larry Leed , deputy executive director of CAP. “We are grateful to have such fabulous supporters, some of which have supported the organization for 25 years. We went back to our roots and celebrated our milestone anniversary with a spectacular show like we used to do in the 1980s at The Danny Awards.   People enjoyed reuniting with friends they hadn’t seen in years while being entertained by a fantastic cast of Divas.”
Guest had a chance to win an assortment of spectacular auction and drawing items, including a first row seats to see Sir Elton John in concert.  To end the night, one lucky guest took home a stylish BMW bicycle valued at over $1,200 who will be donating the bicycle to a student at the Lake Worth High School.
Founder of Palm Beach Principal Players Vicki Halmos treated her entire cast to CAPtivating Divas as the closing night cast party of her recent run of Cabaret and CAP’s 25 Anniversary.
Honorary chairs of the event were Fred and Anjette Scheiman and Doug Randolph. Event chairs were Tony Jordan and Orlando Chiang Event Committee members included, Harold Atchison, Dan Hall, Scott Kent, Cal Miller, Rob Russell, Greg Savarese, Alan Salomon, Charles Capers, Taylor Stevens, Jim Sugarman and Justin Zenko with the support of the CAP Staff Committee.
The event committee unveiled a special tribute plaque designed and created by Orlando Chiang in memory of long time CAP supporter Palm Beacher Lydia Crozier.

CAP provides and promotes education, advocacy and compassion to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS through case management, education and prevention and other support services.  CAP works throughout Palm Beach County to provide housing assistance, food, transportation, mental health counseling and emergency assistance to clients and families living with HIV/AIDS.  
Since its inception in 1985, CAP has provided educational services to more than 250,000 people in a variety of settings, including prisons, county schools, on the streets in high-risk neighborhoods, in health settings, substance abuse treatment centers, methadone clinics, and others.  The local organization has grown into one of the most successful community-based HIV/AIDS service organizations in the nation.

Top Professional Golfers, Today Show Personality and Polo Stars Join Roster of Celebs at Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation’s 2nd Celebrity Pro-Am

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL. – Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation is proud to announce the incredible line up of stars already signed on for their Celebrity Pro-Am weekend! Scheduled to appear is: Today Host Matt Lauer, Professional golfers Mark Calcavecchia, Michelle McGann, Bob Murphy, Olin Browne, Dana Quigley, Jay Sigel; top Professional Polo players Luis Escobar and Brandon Phillips; baseball greats Dennis Martinez, Larry Walker and Andrés Galarraga; Indy Car Driver Jay Howard; football great Steve Walsh and celebrated political cartoonist Paul Szep.

“We are incredibly excited to have these celebrities participate in our tournament,” said Greg Leach, Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation President. “As one of our largest fundraisers, this event supports many non-reimbursable patient care programs Hospice of Palm Beach County offers to patients and families, regardless of their ability to pay. With the star power of these celebrity participants, this is sure to be our best tournament ever!”

The fun-filled weekend will kick off with an elegant cocktail reception and silent auction at 7:00 p.m. at The Breakers Palm Beach on December 3, 2010. Guests will have the opportunity to dance to today’s hottest tunes, rub elbows with celebrity guests and enjoy the view from the incredible Ponce de Leon ballroom.

Golfers can get an early start with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 before the day of golf at the breathtaking Rees Jones Course at Breakers West. Participants will enjoy the par 72 layout that challenges every level of golfer. Following the day of golf, guests are invited for the Leisure Time Coins awards ceremony in the Breakers West clubhouse.

FOUNDCARE CITED AS PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW HEALTHCARE REFORM WILL BENEFIT LOCALLY
Local nonprofit serves Palm Beach County’s growing uninsured and underinsured population
 
(WEST PALM BEACH, FL)  Guests at FoundCare Health Center learned that the local nonprofit community health center is being cited as a prime example of how plans for healthcare reform will benefit local residents of Palm Beach County.  The event celebrated the announcement of FoundCare’s new Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) Look-Alike status, the first of its kind in Florida, and acknowledged healthcare advocates and supporters who had made the milestone possible.  The keynote for the morning was delivered by Rear Admiral Donald L. Weaver, M.D., Assistant Surgeon General for United States Public Health Service and Deputy Associate Administrator for Primary Health Care, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA.)
 
“FoundCare is now part of a nationwide network of health centers that delivers high quality healthcare to people who might otherwise go without,” said Dr. Weaver.  “Having access to a health home will make a huge difference for local families who need care.”
 
When fully operational, FoundCare Health Center will be a full-service health center.  This “one-stop shop” currently offers primary care and preventive services including medical diagnosis and treatment.  Dental services and pharmacy services will be added in the future. 
 
FoundCare Health Center opened its doors to the community in January 2009, and since that time, has provided medical care to more than 2,400 patients, many of whom are uninsured and underinsured.
 
 “With three service providers and additional hours, we have significantly increased the number of new patients treated in 2010,” said Yolette Bonnet, chief executive officer for FoundCare Health Center. “We have the capacity in this building to see more than 10,000 unduplicated patients each year. But we still need to secure additional funding to maximize the use of this state-of-the-art medical home in order for it to include even more providers and equipment.  In the meantime, the Look-Alike status we received helps to position us when we apply for full FQHC status and allows for additional benefits we can pass along to our patients.”
 
The FQHC Program designates health centers that provide essential primary and preventive health care services to low-income, medically underserved, and vulnerable populations that traditionally have limited access to affordable services and face the greatest barriers to care.  
 
Thanks to the tremendous support from private donors, government grants and a gift of more than $1.8 million over the years from the Quantum Foundation, FoundCare Health Center patients receive affordable access to quality health care and preventive services, regardless of their ability to pay.  
 
 “Health care reform is just beginning and the road is a long one, but at the end there will be more access to quality care for all of our residents,” said Kerry Diaz, president of Quantum Foundation. “ Its success, however, depends on our collective efforts over the next few years to make sure the promise of coverage expansion is realized. We plan to build on our significant investments in community clinics to help them and boost the broader safety net in Palm Beach County. FoundCare is one solution to overcoming the inequalities in care that exist today.  Quantum understands that the hard work of matching people to quality health care happens on the community level, and we are thankful and proud to be a partner in making those connections possible.”
 
Of FoundCare’s current patients, 77 percent do not have any health insurance, and they visited FoundCare an average of nearly three times per year for health concerns ranging from hypertension to diabetes, infectious disease, asthma, obesity, women’s health and other specialty care.  More than 70 percent have incomes below the federal poverty level and they range from the age of infancy to 84-years-old, nearly two-thirds of which are female.
 
“With the gracious support of Quantum Foundation, other donors, and state and local healthcare advocates, we’ve been able to initiate core services while preparing to apply for federal support as a Federally Qualified Health Center,” said Bonnet.  “FoundCare will continue to serve all patients, specifically the uninsured and underinsured.“

 Wellington Boy Scout Troop 125 will hold its 22nd annual Christmas
 tree sale at St. Peters Methodist Church from November 26 until 18
 December. Trees will go on sale at 9 AM on Friday Nov. 26. Normal tree
 sale hours during the week are from 5PM until 9 PM and Saturday and
 Sunday from 9 AM until 9 PM. This is the main fund raiser for the
 troop with all proceeds going towards the scout’s one week
 summer camp being held this June in North Georgia. St. Peters

JCC holds 10th Annual Hanukkah Community Candle Lighting

BOYNTON BEACH/PALM BEACH GARDENS — The JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches along with temple congregations and preschools from throughout Palm Beach County will celebrate Hanukkah at its 10th Annual Hanukkah Community Candle Lighting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010.

 

For the second year, the festivities will take place simultaneously from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at two locations, Canyon Town Center Amphitheatre on West Boynton Beach Boulevard east of Lyons Road, and at Midtown Plaza in the Midtown shopping center in Palm Beach Gardens just west of I-95 on PGA Boulevard. Both events are free and include children’s activities, family entertainment, and music.

At the Hanukkah Community Candle Lighting at Canyon Town Center:

  • Matt Auerbach, host of the internet radio and TV program “Night Shul,” will serve as master of ceremonies.
  • Area cantors and rabbis will lead the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, Ha’Tikvah, and the Hanukkah blessings.
  • Local singer-songwriter and Jewish educator Emily Aronoff will perform along with local JCC pre-school and religious school choirs.

At the Hanukkah Community Candle Lighting Midtown:

·         Families with children ages six and under are invited to a screening of the premiere episode of Shalom Sesame (Sesame Street), “Hanukkah: The Missing Menorah!” at 3:30 p.m. in the JCC North building.

Temple Beth Torah Leonie Arguetty Preschool Thanksgiving Sing-a-long and  Feast

 

The children at Temple Beth Torah Leonie Arguetty Preschool will come together on Monday, November 22 at 11:45 a.m. for a Thanksgiving sing-a-long and Feast. Children will dress in costumes created in their classrooms depicting the Thanksgiving Story.  Some of the children will be dressed as Native Americans, others as Pilgrims and the very youngest children will dress as turkeys.  A school-wide Thanksgiving Feast will follow.  The children will dine on food to be prepared by the preschool’s Volunteer Parent Organization as well as food they will prepare themselves as part of their classroom curriculum.  Families of the preschool children are invited to attend.
