500 to Compete in Tropical Triathlon Sunday 9-30-12 in Lake Worth
Lake Worth (September 2012) – The Central Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lake Worth along with our sponsors, Royal Palm Mazda and Mercantil Commercebank present the 15th Annual Tropical Triathlon Sunday, September 30, starting at 7 a.m.
The Tropical Triathlon will be the first event to take place on the “NEW” beachfront! The race highlights not only the Ocean amenities but the Snook Island and Boardwalk improvements.
Hector Picard the first double arm amputee to finish an ironman will be competing. He will be a fierce competitor and an inspiration for us all. You can learn more about Hector at http://www.dontstopliving.org/
Dr. Alex Keith of Advanced Wellness Sports & Chiropractic Center, is our race director. Dr. Keith has the honour of being the United States Olympic and National Triathlon Team’s Chiropractic Sports Physician. He travelled with the U.S. team to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics and London for the 2012 Olympics and continues to work with the team at World Cup and World Championship Triathlons. Male and female triathletes, ranging in age from 14 to 78 and representing all experience levels come from around the state to compete in the event.
The Lake Worth Beach is the starting point for the race, where the triathletes complete a quarter-mile ocean swim. They then transition to the 11-mile bike race, taking them along Federal Highway, followed by a 3.1-mile run over the Intracoastal Bridge and through the Bryant Park area, before heading back to the beach for the finish line.
The day before the event, from 3 to 8 p.m. during the athlete packet pick-up, we will be hosting a Health and Fitness Expo at the Omphoy Ocean Resort located at 2842 South Ocean Boulevard, Palm Beach, FL 33480.
The Tropical Triathlon is sanctioned by the USA Triathlon Association, with timing provided by Altavistasports.com. Registration is online at www.active.com.

Street Closures: Federal Highway North to Wellesley and South to 12th Avenue South. Lake Avenue from Federal Highway east to A1A. Lucerne Avenue from A1A west to Federal Highway. Golfview Rd. south to 2nd Ave South. 5th Ave. South Ocean Breeze. South Palmway, South Lakeside between 4th and 5th Streets will be closed from 6:30am to 10:00am.
