Wellington Celebrates Public Lands Day

On Saturday, September 27th, 2014 the Village of Wellington celebrated Public Lands Day. With the help of over 50 volunteers and Village staff, 1,150 tree seedlings were planted in the Wellington Environmental Preserve at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Everglades Habitat. The remarkable group of volunteers consisted of members of Boy Scout Troop 125, Girl Scout Troops 20511, 20515, 22222, 21105, 20669, 21001 and members of the Wellington Garden Club. The tree seedlings included South Florida Slash Pines purchased from the Florida Forest Service as well as Mahogany seedlings donated by Indian Trails Native Nursery.

The work day was a phenomenal success, with all seedlings planted in only two hours and Wellington would like to thank everyone for participating.  The newly planted trees will eventually provide increased canopy in the preserve and a home for wildlife for years to come.
