Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Annual Blue Friday Event to “Give Thanks” to Environment on November 23

Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s annual Blue Friday event will provide alternative family-friendly activities to the usual Black Friday traditions, encouraging community members to lend a hand.

Set for Friday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blue Friday will include a Juno Beach Coastal Clean-up, free Public Guided Tours and free on-campus programming.

“Blue Friday offers an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and wildlife with their loved ones and, through interactive, fun and waste-free activities, share knowledge of how to carry a mindfulness for the environment through the holiday season,” said Hannah Campbell, associate director of education at Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

The Juno Beach Coastal Cleanup will take place starting at 9 a.m. prior to the start of the Blue Friday activities. After the clean-up, guests are invited to participate in family-friendly activities at the Center.

Blue Friday Activities will include:

9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

  • Coastal Clean-up* at Juno Beach: Guests can #OptOutside by meeting behind LMC and participating in a clean-up of our local beach.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Responsible Wrapping: Guests can bring their LMC purchases to our Responsible Wrapping area for a post-consumer, FREE wrapping service. Items such as newspapers, paper bags, maps and other paper products will be used.
  • Interactive Holiday-themed Exhibit: Guests will learn about the waste produced during the holiday season and ways to reduce their footprint through our Holiday Blue-topia pledge area.
  • Kids Upcycling Crafts: Kids can join us in making up-cycled holiday crafts out of post-consumer products.

Participants who cannot attend the Juno Beach Coastal Clean-up can still visit the Center between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and check out the activities happening on campus.

LMC will also offer select free family programming in celebration of Blue Friday, including Dr. Logger, Junior Vet Labs and tours of our Outdoor Sea Turtle Hospital. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

We didn’t forget about the shoppers, our marine-themed gift store will be stocked with holiday items and unique gifts from local vendors, sure to please anyone on your list. Sea turtle adoptions make great gifts as well.
