Gardens Brighten the Lives of Seniors

[West Palm Beach, FL] (April 28, 2014) – Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful, Inc. (KPBCB) has awarded a $1000 Great American Cleanup mini-grant to Villa Regina to install a butterfly garden using native plants that their senior residents can enjoy and maintain. Additional products and services to support the garden were also provided by Butterfly Plant Shop and Greenshades Lawn and Landscape Inc. – both in Palm Beach Gardens.

Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest community improvement program that kicks off each spring and engages more than 4 million volunteers in more than 20,000 communities nationwide.

KPBCB, along with other organizations in Keep America Beautiful’s national network of community-based affiliates, have planned events structured to beautify parks, trails and recreation areas, clean shorelines and waterways, reduce waste and increase recycling, remove litter and debris, plant trees and build community gardens, among other events, to inspire generations of environmental stewards.

In awarding this grant, KPBCB understands the nurturing effect a garden can have and the improved physical and mental well-being that it can provide the senior residents of Villa Regina.  In addition, installation of a butterfly garden using native plants can help provide a habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies that are so important to the environment.

A ribbon cutting for the garden will take place on Monday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Villa Regina, 2660 Haverhill Road N, West Palm Beach.
