(Delray Beach, FL – December 17, 2012) Newly formed playwriting collaborative, Palm Beach PlayMakers, is pleased to announce its debut production, BOXer SHORTS, a showcase of original 10-minute plays to be presented at the Delray Beach Playhouse on Saturday, December 29 at 2:00 P.M.

The use of stackable boxes to suggest scenic elements and visual movement, will set the stage for the six brief plays, which feature dynamic characters with exceptional chemistry and unique stories to tell. Playwrights Todd Caster and Lisa Bankert each contribute three pieces that toggle between comedy and drama, sometimes blending the two genres in unexpected fashion. Each play includes a cast of 2-3 characters, one holiday theme, and one specific “mystery object” that audiences will be challenged to identify during a talk-back panel discussion with the Palm Beach PlayMakers following the performance.

Playwright Todd Caster serves as director to two of the six plays and is joined by fellow directors who are also award-winning actors, Michael DeGrotta and Richard Zavaglia. The cast includes well-known South Florida stage veterans DeGrotta, Michael Beecher, Marcie Hall, Jim McConville and Catherine Windecker. Rounding out the cast are local stage actors Calvin Bankert, Susan Emley, Eric Salas, Thomas Spencer, Cindy Thagard, Dan Thagard and Isabella Werber.

The BOXer SHORTS line-up includes:

AMERICAN DREAMER  (written & directed by Todd Caster) –  It’s Thanksgiving dinner and an opportune time for Daniel to introduce Bobby to his bride-to-be, Sasha. With Daniel in the kitchen, Sasha and Bobby get acquainted, clear the air and learn a few things in the process.

CHILLERS (written by Lisa Bankert & directed by Richard Zavaglia) – Grocery stock boy Conrad becomes an unwitting human shield for the recently-jilted Barbara, who fears a run-in with her ex-boyfriend during a New Year’s Eve shopping errand. But what exactly is Barbara hiding from on this day of auld lang syne?

COLD HANDS, WARM HEARTS (written & directed by Todd Caster) – Two lovers take refuge in a rustic shack after a blizzard has left them snowbound on the way to their Valentine’s Day destination.

CUTS (written by Lisa Bankert & directed by Michael DeGrotta) – There are just four hours left before the holiday hiatus, and the slings and arrows are flying fast between a jaded leading lady and her ingénue scene partner, until they discover common ground on the pages of a lackluster script.

THE SIGNPOSTS OF PROVIDENCE (written by Todd Caster & directed by Richard Zavaglia) – Hannah and Ellis were lovers when they were in college and haven’t seen each other since their bad break-up following a 4th of July weekend years ago. Now Hannah is the mother of one of Ellis’ students and the two unsuspectingly reunite for a parent/teacher meeting in Ellis’ office.

UPSHOT(written by Lisa Bankert & directed by Michael DeGrotta) – While searching for their misplaced Buick, two university students stumble upon a cantankerous cloaked figure perched on a park bench in the wee hours of an eerie Halloween morning.

Tickets are $10 and can be reserved through the Delray Beach Playhouse Box Office by calling 561-272-1281 ext 4.
