Superhero Costumes are Optional for ‘Mission of Love’ Event

(Lake Worth Beach, FL – January 9, 2020) Bonnie Beer, a partner at Caffe Luna Rosa in Delray Beach, today invited runners of all ages to participate in Diego’s Superhero 5K 4 Life at John Prince Park in Lake Worth Beach on Saturday, February 1, starting at 8 am.

The event is in honor of Diego Degrossi, who was 16 years old and a student at Park Vista High School, before tragically drowning in a local lake last summer. Funds raised at the 5K will be donated to the Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, which saves lives through organ donation and transplantation, as well as providing organs and tissues for research to advance medical science.

Diego Degrossi

“Diego was a wonderful young man. He played soccer and basketball his entire life, and was best friend to my son Ryan since they were both 3,” says Beer, who is organizing the 5K along with the BadAss Running Company and Diego’s parents, Martin and Ana Degrossi.

When Diego lost his five-day battle for life at St. Mary’s Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, his parents decided to “make a positive from this devastating nightmare” by donating his organs, eyes and tissue to families in need.

“At least three people received life-saving organs, including his passionate heart and both kidneys,” according to his parents. Diego’s “beautiful blue eyes as well as tissue helped many others. The decision to gift his organs made Diego a superhero. And, for us, our mission became inspiring others on the importance of becoming an organ donor… save a life, save a family!”

“This isn’t your standard 5K, it’s a 5K built on love, and it is the legacy of our hero Diego and his parents,” adds Beer. “Diego was a superhero and so are Martin and Ana, which is why we are encouraging race participants to come in costume. This is optional, of course, but our favorite costumes will be getting significant prizes.”

Participants will journey through John Prince Park’s beautiful 5K course overlooking the water and natural preserves of one of Palm Breach County’s nicest parks. Race Day pickup starts at 6:45 am.

The cost to participate in Diego’s Superhero 5K 4 Life is $39.95 (although the price will increase after January 27). Runners will receive a beautiful, 4-inch custom medal symbolic of Diego’s heroism, with spinning heart, glitter blue eyes, and a ribbon necklace.
