SPRING INTO SCIENCE AT ANNUAL SPRING BREAK CAMP
South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s spring break camp takes small-scientists on an adventure
(West Palm Beach, Fla.) Calling all science-savvy students… this spring break, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium welcomes you to a science crash course! The Center’s annual Spring Science and Tech Adventure begins on Monday, March 16, and the week-long camp promises to turn mini-Einsteins into chemists, engineers, marine biologists and astronomers – all in just a few days!
“The Science Center is always buzzing during spring break,” said Lew Crampton, Science Center CEO. “We certainly have something for everyone with workshops including a variety of experiments and crafts to keep campers engaged and entertained for the entire week. It is never too early to ‘open every mind to science’ and we see this opportunity as a way to reach children at a young age with educational, but most importantly, fun activities!”
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, recently named the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ nonprofit of the year, features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. Afterlife: Tombs & Treasures of Ancient Egypt, the Science Center’s newest traveling exhibit, features more than 200 ancient and authentic artifacts. All exhibits are on display during Afterlife’s special showing. In true Science Center style, the highly anticipated blockbuster exhibition has interactive components, making it feel like guests have taken a trip to Egypt to explore ancient artifacts and tombs.
Camp is open to children ages 4 – 14, and includes two different options for children ages 8 – 14. In “Science Crash Course” campers ages 4 – 12 can get their hands dirty during a botany demonstration; solve archaeological mysteries by exploring an ancient Egyptian tomb; or tryout being an astronaut while learning about zero gravity. In the “Total Tech” session, campers ages 8 – 14 will tinker, solder and engineer and even have the opportunity to create their own video game! Activities include building mechanical parts, experimenting with electronics and soldering circuits.
In addition, the Science Center is also hosting a special one day science camp on Monday, March 23. From 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., science seekers can use the latest 4D anatomy technology to explore human biological systems. Activities include dissecting a sheep’s brain with using a video microscope and drawing your own cell with a 3D Scribbler Pen. Cost is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.
Spring Science and Tech Adventure runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily, with extended hours of exploration available from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. for an additional daily fee.
