LITTLE SMILES™ CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO HELP REACH $100,000 GOAL

0

AS HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE ENTERS CRITICAL FINAL WEEKS

Proceeds provide toys, gifts, and support to more than 10,000 children during the holidays and fund programs impacting 15,000 children year-round

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Palm Beach Gardens, FLA. – (December 4, 2025) – Little Smiles™ is urging the community to rally behind its 16th Annual Holiday Toy Drive as the nonprofit works toward a $100,000 fundraising goal to bring joy, comfort, and holiday magic to thousands of local children in need. Donations made now through December 25 will help secure toys, games, and gifts for families facing financial hardship and fuel year-round programs supporting children battling serious illness, experiencing homelessness, or recovering from tragedy.

Community members can donate in several ways:

• Shop the Little Smiles Amazon Wish List

• Make an online donation or text LITTLESMILES to 44321

• Drop off new, unwrapped toys at participating locations or events listed at littlesmilesfl.org

In 2024 and 2025, Little Smiles programs reached tens of thousands of children across 33 pediatric partner facilities from Daytona Beach to Miami-Dade, including hospitals, medical daycares, shelters, foster care homes, and hospice programs. Your support directly helps provide:

• 10,000 toys distributed through the Holiday Toy Drive

• 200 wishes granted for children with life-threatening illnesses

• 200 children supplied with essential basics and emergency needs

• 250 in-facility celebrations, including movie nights, craft days, and special events

• 2,500 gifts for pediatric nurses and frontline caregivers to give to children

• Playroom and comfort gear impacting 15,000 children throughout the region

“The community has always been the heart of this mission,” said Samantha Shepherd, Interim Executive Director of Little Smiles Florida. “Our goal is to make sure every child feels remembered and valued during the holidays. The need is great, and we often run short on baby toys and gifts for teens. Gift cards are especially helpful for teens and can even help provide a family with a holiday meal. Every donation brings comfort, joy, and hope to a child who needs it most.”

Proceeds from the Toy Drive ensure that children across Southeast Florida, many of whom are spending the holidays in hospitals, shelters, or unstable home situations, receive moments of happiness during a difficult time. Gifts are placed directly into children’s hands through Little Smiles’ trusted network of pediatric partners and local family support programs.

Local businesses can make an immediate impact by becoming toy drive sponsors, hosting a collection box, or organizing employee donation challenges. Volunteer groups, schools, and clubs are also invited to join the effort. For donation details, drop-off locations, sponsorship opportunities, or ways to get involved, visit littlesmilesfl.org.

About Little Smiles Florida:

Little Smiles is a not-for-profit organization operating in Palm Beach County and the greater Southeast Florida region. The charity was founded in 1999 by local businessman Paul L. Donohue, who saw a need and inspired the community to bring comfort and joy to children and their caregivers at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital. Little Smiles now partners with 33 pediatric facilities from Daytona Beach to Miami-Dade that include hospitals, medical daycare centers, hospices, shelters, foster care homes, and medical support facilities. Its mission is to help kids during difficult times by providing smiles to children and their support staff through fun events such as movie nights, arts and crafts, and snack breaks. The organization also fulfills individual needs and requests, such as providing a toy to distract a child after surgery, pajamas for comfort during extended stays, or a cake and present to celebrate a birthday during their time at a partnering facility.

Calendar Listing:

Through December 25, 2025, Little Smiles’ 16th Annual Holiday Toy Drive collects gifts for children from newborns to 18 years old. Artist Mark Forman Asks Bold Questions in Solo Exhibition at Cultural Council for Palm Beach County

0

December 5, 2025 (Lake Worth Beach, Fla.) — The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is gearing up for its next solo exhibition, featuring works by Palm Beach County-based visual artist Mark Forman.

Stimulating Thoughts reflects on ideas long stewing in Forman’s subconscious, demanding visual form. Through painting, collage, and mixed media—including several new pieces he’s created in the last two years—Forman confronts lies, injustice, and misinterpretations alongside deeper concerns for humanity.

The exhibition runs from December 19, 2025 through January 31, 2026 in the Gayle and Paul Gross Gallery at the Cultural Council’s headquarters in downtown Lake Worth Beach.

“Mark Forman’s work deals with challenging subjects and encourages the viewer to look deeply into the work, as well as themselves,” says Jessica Ransom, the Council’s director of artist services. “We invite the public to view these poignant artworks and consider, question, and engage in meaningful dialogue that sparks change.”

An opening reception for Stimulating Thoughts will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cultural Council’s headquarters. It is free and open to the public.

“I hope people understand creating a piece of art is a thought process,” says Forman. “I don’t just do pretty things. I create things that come out of my brain; from situations and the world we live in. It’s important for the community to appreciate creative people—just as they appreciate doctors, lawyers, and other professionals. I hope people relate to what I have to say and that they understand the thinking and emotion behind it.”

The Cultural Council provides emerging, mid-career, or experienced visual artists the opportunity for a solo exhibition in its Gayle and Paul Gross Gallery each season. Selected through a highly competitive application process, Forman is one of six Palm Beach County-based artists chosen by a committee of visual art professionals for one of these solo shows. In addition to installing the artworks and hosting a reception, the Council provides a stipend to each artist to support framing and transportation costs. All artworks are for sale, and a portion of proceeds go to the individual artists.

This exhibition is generously sponsored by the Tourist Development Council, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, the Florida Division of Arts & Culture, and Florida Weekly.

Discover More of New York City’s Holiday Highlights

The NYC Tourism + Conventions estimates New York City will draw approximately eight million tourists this holiday season. There’s no doubt that city streets will be filled with visitors wandering in awe at all the magical sights. Holiday highlights always include a stop at the iconic tree at Rockefeller Center. Store windows filled with holiday cheer along 5th Avenue attract countless visitors. Also, the holiday market at Bryant Park draws those looking for a bit of time on the ice skating rink.

However, visitors to New York City may be unaware that festive celebrations extend well beyond Manhattan. Here are a few to consider in Brooklyn and the Bronx, along with a special celebration taking place in Manhattan during the 2025 holiday season.

Stroll Through the Magical Displays in Dyker Heights

Wandering through Dyker Heights Christmas Lights in December feels like stepping into a storybook winter scene. The typically quiet Brooklyn neighborhood transforms the blocks between 83rd and 86th Streets each holiday season into one of New York’s most extravagant displays of Christmas spirit. By early December, the streets begin to shimmer with elaborate decorations as homeowners unveil towering Santas, twinkling reindeer, glowing nativity scenes, and animated snowmen. Many of the displays are professionally designed—some costing thousands of dollars—creating a spectacular, over-the-top panorama that draws visitors from across the city and beyond.

Crowds of families, photographers, and holiday enthusiasts stroll the sidewalks, taking in the music drifting from outdoor speakers and the warm glow of each home adorned with creativity. The experience has become a beloved NYC tradition—one that captures the whimsy and wonder of the season and remains completely free to enjoy.

Holiday Lights at the Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo’s Holiday Lights celebration transforms the grounds into a glowing winter wonderland, featuring immersive lantern displays inspired by wildlife from around the world. Stroll along six elaborately designed trails lined with more than a million lights and hundreds of larger-than-life illuminated animals, from prowling tigers and soaring birds to deep-sea creatures and prehistoric favorites.

Beloved favorites make their triumphant return, including the whimsical Holiday Train and the mesmerizing Enchanted Sea, where glowing underwater creatures shimmer in brilliant color. But this year brings brand-new thrills, too. Zip down thrilling snow-tube slides, strike a pose on an epic illuminated ice-themed throne, and test your aim with virtual snowball throwing.

The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden

The Bronx is also home to one of the city’s most enchanting winter traditions, often overlooked by tourists. The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden draws visitors into a world where nature and nostalgia meet. Set beneath the warm glow of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the exhibition features meticulously crafted replicas of New York’s most iconic landmarks. Here you’ll find the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, and Grand Central Terminal, all created from natural materials like bark, acorns, leaves, and twigs.

What elevates the Holiday Train Show from a charming exhibit to a must-see seasonal experience is its fully immersive setting. The earthy scent of greenery fills the conservatory while the rhythmic clatter of trains creates a soothing backdrop. Spotlights highlight the tiniest details from illuminated windows in miniature skyscrapers to the delicate textures of bark-built bridges. With festive music drifting through the air and warm drinks available throughout the garden, the show becomes a holiday escape that captures the wonder and joy of the season.

The Empire State Building Highlights the 100th Year of Radio City’s Rockettes

This year’s holiday celebration lineup at the Empire State Building is packed with festive décor, classic movie nights, local treats, dazzling tower lightings, and even a special holiday partnership with the Radio City Rockettes. The famous dance troupe stopped by to flip the switch on the building’s holiday lights and unveil the new decorations, officially kicking off the most magical time of the year at one of NYC’s top attractions.

“There is no better place to celebrate the holidays in New York City than at the Empire State Building Observatory,” said Dan Rogoski, General Manager at the Empire State Building Observatory. “This year, New Yorkers and visitors will enjoy the best of the holiday season in our iconic venue as we celebrate 100 years of the Radio City Rockettes.”

Explore the Rockettes’ impressive 100-year history at the 80th Floor Observatory through a display featuring archival photos, dazzling costumes, and iconic props from the beloved Christmas Spectacular. The centennial celebration continues on the 86th Floor Observation Deck, where guests will find a special anniversary photo spot—an extravagant archway adorned with bows, ornaments, and garland, surrounding three oversized wooden soldiers paying tribute to a century of the Rockettes’ legendary high kicks. The festivities wrap up in the Fifth Avenue Lobby, where the building’s famous windows present classic scenes and colorful costumes from the Christmas Spectacular, offering a final salute to a hundred years of the Rockettes’ unique flair and holiday wonder.

More Special Events at the Empire State Building

This holiday season, guests can purchase an official combo ticket to the Empire State Building Observatory that includes access to the building’s immersive museum, 86th and 102nd Floor Observatories, a 15% off coupon for the ESB gift shop, and a ticket to select showings of the famed “Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes.”

Fans can purchase tickets to watch classic holiday flicks on the 80th Floor, which include:

“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” on Dec. 5 and 13 at 5 p.m.

“Elf” on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. and Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to these holiday features will include themed snacks and drinks, and full access to ESB’s second-floor museum and Observation Decks.

Of course, Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’ll be at the Empire State Building collecting

wish lists and posing for photos with Observatory guests in his dedicated corner on the building’s 80th Floor.

The Empire State Building’s iconic tower lights will shine throughout the holiday season with dedicated lightings for Chanukah, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. A PRICELESS EXPERIENCE:  ENJOYING AFTERNOON TEA IN THE SHADOWS OF AN ENGLISH CASTLE

By Mike May

When it comes to visiting England, which is roughly the size of the state of Indiana, there are countless things to do and historic places to visit.  They range from seeing Buckingham Palace (from outside the gates), making the trek to William Shakespeare’s home in Stratford-Upon-Avon, touring the Roman architecture on display in Bath, making the pilgrimage to Stonehenge in the Salisbury Plain, watching a ‘live’ theatrical production in London’s West End, enjoying a boat ride down London’s Thames River, riding a red double-decker bus around London, touring the gardens at Hever Castle in England’s county of Kent, visiting Land’s End at the far southwestern edge of England, attending a Premier League soccer match at Old Trafford, the home of the Manchester United Football Club, and playing a round of golf at a British Open course such as the Royal St. George’s Golf Club, to name just a few.  The list goes on and on.

One specific experience that is priceless and memorable is visiting an English castle, specifically England’s St. Michael’s Mount, which is located in England’s most southwesterly county of Cornwall, not far from the seaside town of Penzance.  It’s roughly a six-hour trip west of London, which adds to the allure and excitement of the experience.  This castle is nearly 900 years old and it actually sits on an island.  At high tide, St. Michael’s Mount is only accessible by boat (or by swimming) and at low tide, it’s accessible on foot or by a motorized vehicle or golf cart.

Upon arrival at St. Michael’s Mount, you can tour the castle where there are guides in every room to describe the architecture and purpose of the room.  The castle is currently the full-time resident of Lord and Lady St. Leven.  Afterwards, you can tour the gardens which surround the castle.  While outside, you will have an amazing view of Mount’s Bay, that surrounds this ancient fortress.  After (or before) your tour to the castle, set aside time to have afternoon tea at The Harbour Loft, which is located just a few steps away from the front gates of St. Michael’s Mount.  Here, the quality of the tea (only served hot!), the finger sandwiches and desserts is as good as the service, setting, and scenery.  The idea of having afternoon tea in the shadows of an English castle which is perched on an island is amazing, to say the least.  Even getting to St. Michael’s Mount – on foot along a cobbled-stone pathway or by a small passenger boat – is a big part of this adventuresome experience.  Of course, at The Harbour Loft, you must sample the scones which are served with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam.  There, you are encouraged to first apply the jam on the scone and top it off with the Cornish clotted cream, a delicacy rarely served in the U.S.

What’s interesting is the origin of St. Michael’s Mount, which was built by a group of French monks, back in the day.  Construction started in 1135 and it was completed in 1144.  It remained under French control for roughly 300 years until English King Henry V passed the Alien Act in 1414, which enabled the English to seize control of the castle from the French.  The castle has remained under English control ever since.

St. Michael’s Mount and The Harbour Loft await your arrival.
