Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches Announces Men as Allies

0

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) – On Thursday, November 9, men will open their hearts – and two will open their restaurant – to join forces with Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches (JWF). “JWF Men as Allies: Why Feminism is Good for Men,” is the first event in an overall campaign to educate and engage men about gender equality. The cocktail reception and program is being hosted by Eddie Schmidt and Ozzie Medeiros at their restaurant, Table 26, and will feature a presentation and discussion by Jeffrey Nall, Ph.D., a thought leader in philosophy and humanities. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.

“We are thrilled to be launching our ‘Men as Allies’ campaign,” said Jay Bauer, chair of the “JWF Men as Allies” committee. “It is critical men understand the opportunity they have to participate in improving the lives of women and girls. As an inclusive organization, JWF relies on the voices of many, who stand to improve the lives of all.”

“JWF Men as Allies: Why Feminism is Good for Men” will examine one of JWF’s core beliefs – that when women and girls are supported and empowered, the entire community benefits – men and boys included. Jeffrey Nall, Ph.D., an author, speaker and interdisciplinary scholar, who is currently a Master Instructor of Philosophy at Indian River State College where he teaches courses in philosophy and humanities, will lead the discussion. Nall plans to focus on how societal norms limit the ability of men and women to be safe and reach their full potential.

“We are sincerely alarmed by current conditions and trends in our country and around the world,” said Tami Lesser Baldinger, CEO of JWF. “This discussion is relevant and timely, because it is obvious there is still so much work to be done to create a just and fair society for all. We hope men – and women – will come together at this first program with open minds and thoughtful ideas.”

“JWF Men as Allies” committee members include: Nir Buchler, Richard Comiter, Gary Lesser, Rabbi Yaron Kapitulnik, Brahm Levine, Brian Lowenthal, Adam Myron, Andrew Reitman, Eddie Schmidt, Herb Siegel, Jason Stuhmer and Joel Yudenfreund.

Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches is a nonprofit grant making and advocacy organization established to improve the lives of women and girls. Guided by Jewish values, JWF advocates for advancing all women and girls, and funds projects that have long-term effects for societal change on local, national and international levels by placing an unwavering focus on the root cause of issues. An inclusive organization, JWF welcomes members of all beliefs and genders who believe that when women and girls are empowered, the entire community benefits.

Tickets to the “Men as Allies” reception are $40. To purchase tickets, or for more information about Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches, please visit www.jwfpalmbeach.org, call 561-275-2200 or email Miriam Laing at Miriam@jwfpalmbeach.org.

Award-Winning Public Relations Firm Making Monumental Moves in West Palm

0

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) Moore Communications Group (MCG), a full-service marketing and public relations firm headquartered in Tallahassee, is gaining momentum in its South Florida office with the addition of West Palm Beach native Christy Fox. Fox, who has more than 15 years of experience working on local, national and international public relations campaigns, marketing partnerships and events for top global brands, was most recently an executive vice president of the Monuments Men Foundation, where she helped share the story of the men and women who volunteered for service during World War II to rescue artistic and cultural treasures stolen by the Nazis. Under Fox’s leadership, MCG is the new agency of record for the City of West Palm Beach’s events department.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Christy to the team,” said Karen Moore, founder and CEO of MCG. “Her local perspective and years of experience bring incredible value to our growing South Florida presence. Her leadership has already provided big company wins, which we know will only continue to multiply.”

Fox, who grew up in West Palm Beach and still lives downtown, has a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Boston University. While in her role with the Monuments Men Foundation, which became the major motion picture “The Monuments Men” in 2014 when George Clooney bought the rights to the book, Fox specialized in pitching national print, broadcast and online media. She secured coverage in outlets such as Charlie Rose, CBS Sunday Morning, NBC Nightly News, Morning Joe, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post and Reddit “Ask Me Anything.” Prior to her role with the Monuments Men Foundation, Fox worked in the marketing department of CityPlace coordinating and implementing special events and sponsorship initiatives to increase visibility and traffic to the West Palm Beach shopping, dining and entertainment center. She also held a position planning special events for the Norton Museum of Art, and its young professionals group, the Young Friends of the Norton.

“I am excited to be back in South Florida full time,” said Fox. “I have always been passionate about West Palm Beach, so to be charged with growing MCG’s presence in West Palm and South Florida, it is a perfect intersect of my passion and experience.”

In her new role, Fox is responsible for business development and account servicing, including on media relations, advocacy and branding projects.

Fox helped land the firm a contract with the City of West Palm Beach earlier this year as the agency of record for the City of West Palm Beach events department. MCG is responsible for the promotion of the City’s free events on the Waterfront throughout the year, including Clematis by Night, Screen on the Green, Sunday on the Waterfront, GreenMarket, Sandi Land, 4th on Flagler and more.

“As someone who has attended the City’s beloved events, like 4th on Flagler and Clematis by Night for years, I am thrilled to be collaborating on the marketing side,” continued Fox. “I look forward to the events – and MCG – continuing to grow.”

Headquartered in Tallahassee with offices in Denver, West Palm Beach and New Orleans, MCG is one of the largest independently-owned agencies in the Southeast. MCG has been awarded for its commitment to a top-notch work atmosphere by organizations such as the American Psychological Association’s (APA), as Psychologically Healthy Workplace, and Florida Trend, as a Best Place to Work seven years in a row. The company has also been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the nation by Inc. 5000.

BrightStar Care Wellington/Palm Beach Using Music to Fight Alzheimer’s

0

According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, music has a profound effect on people with Alzheimer’s because “rhythmic and other well-rehearsed responses require little to no cognitive or mental processing.” With that in mind, BrightStar Care of Wellington/Palm Beach, a home care agency that also provides medical staffing solutions, is supporting a music therapy program to help its residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia.

“People with Alzheimer’s or dementia are influenced by the motor center of the brain that responds directly to auditory rhythmic cues,” noted Nick Matzirakis, owner of BrightStar Care of Wellington/Palm Beach. “Our residents express happiness and gratitude for the music program.”

BrightStar Care of Wellington/Palm Beach sponsors music therapy provided by the Palm Beach Music Therapy Institute at The Carlisle Legacy Court Community.

The sessions are provided weekly. “This is an interactive session in which elderly participants engage in making music, singing and dancing along,” added Matzirakis. “Music helps stimulate their cognitive awareness, enables memory recall, and enhances their mood and emotional state by relieving stress.”

Music also offers a sense of control, provides movement and vocal fluency and fosters social interaction. “I can see an instant change and improvement in their moods as soon as the music starts,” concluded Matzirakis. “Some residents who are traditionally less active will even get up and start dancing, clapping and playing simple music instruments.”

About BrightStar Care of Wellington/Palm Beach
BrightStar Care of Wellington/Palm Beach provides quality home care, senior care, caregivers and medical staffing solutions to families and businesses in Wellington, Greenacres and West Palm Beach. Blockbuster Space Exhibit to Launch at the Science Center

OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD EXHIBIT TO LAUNCH AT THE SOUTH FLORIDA SCIENCE CENTER AND AQUARIUM
Guests get a front-row seat to see what it’s like to live in space with “Astronaut”

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) – Jump into your space suit and report for training, because the newest addition to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium has landed and it’s out of this world! The Astronaut exhibition has touched down, bringing with it a whole space lab full of science fun, on display October 14, 2017 until April 15, 2018.

Astronaut boasts 26 hands-on, interactive exhibits which relay the physical and psychological effects of living in microgravity and the technology required to complete space missions.

The immersive experience surrounds guests with life-sized living quarters necessary to survive outside of Earth’s atmosphere. Anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to sleep, eat, shower and use the toilet in space will get their questions answered at this blockbuster exhibit. Visitors will also experience the importance of science in space and the future of space exploration.

“This exhibit really makes you feel like you’re in the International Space Station, and it’s incredible,” said Lew Crampton, President and CEO of the Science Center. “You don’t have to be a space junkie to have fun, and there’s something for everyone, old and young. We are thrilled to be able to open every mind to science and host Astronaut for an extra-terrestrial experience for families.”

The exhibit’s “Training Zone” features some of the challenges involved in becoming an astronaut. Visitors may try their hand at assembling nuts and bolts while wearing a space suit, complete a successful mission and even try to overcome G-forces.

A “Rocket Launch” area stimulates blast-off, allowing guests to climb into a rocket and countdown while sitting on a huge chair. This area also shows visitors what it is like to sleep in space as well as how to grow foods in zero gravity conditions.

A live feed will show astronauts on board the International Space Station during their daily routines. This is just one feature in the “Space Lab” portion of the exhibit.

“The Science Center has cultivated partnerships with local, retired astronauts, and we are thrilled to team up with them to add their personal journeys to the exhibit,” Crampton said. “They are excited to serve as guest lecturers throughout the display and share their unique knowledge and experiences with guests.”

The exhibit is fresh off a successful stop in Houston, Texas, and West Palm Beach is just the third location for this exhibit’s orbit around North America. Astronaut is produced by Imagine Exhibitions and designed and produced by Scitech of Perth, Australia.

The mission of the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is to “open every mind to science” and the indoor/outdoor venue features more than 100 hands-on educational exhibits, a 10,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall, Pre-K focused “Discovery Center,” an interactive Everglades exhibit and the 18-hole Conservation Course – an outdoor putting course with science-focused education stations. For more information, call 561-832-1988 or visit www.sfsciencecenter.org. Like the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium on Facebook and follow them on Twitter and Instagram @SFScienceCenter.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is located at 4801 Dreher Trail North in West Palm Beach and is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Admission to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium during Astronaut is $16.95 for adults, $12.95 for children ages 3 to 12 and $14.95 for seniors aged 60 and older. Science Center members and children under 3 are free. Planetarium shows and mini golf are not included in general admission pricing.
