Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Returns to Wellington

Wellington is excited to announce the return of the popular Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, September 24th, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 p.m., taking place this year at the brand new Wellington Community Center. The theme for the mystery is “Murder at the Masquerade Ball.” This year’s event will feature actors portraying characters in masquerade. Join us as a mysterious murder occurs during an elegant soiree in Wellington’s newly opened Grande Ballroom. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume. Prizes will be given out at the end of the evening.

Tickets cost $50 per person and are on sale now at Village Park (11700 Pierson Road) and at the Wellington Community Center (12150 Forest Hill Blvd). A table of eight may also be reserved for a discounted price of $350. The ticket price includes dinner, beer, and wine. Because this is an adult themed event, Wellington will provide free on-site child care for children ages 5 to 12 only, with pizza and plenty of fun activities. The child care room will be separate from the event.

Prepping Dogs and Cats for Hurricanes

Hurricane season is here. Surely you have figured your pets into your disaster preparedness plan. If you haven’t, please plan ahead. Here are some tips to help you include your furry friends into your plan.

The first thing I recommend is to visit your veterinarian. It is important to update your pet’s vaccines in case you need to schedule a last-minute boarding reservation or check-in to a pet-friendly hotel on your way to safety. While you are at your vet’s office, verify that the contact information they have stored for you is accurate. It would also be wise to microchip your pet to increase your chances of being reunited with them if you get separated. If your pet is already microchipped, verify the contact information with your microchip distributor as well.

Now that we’ve gotten the ‘honey-do’ list out of the way, let’s go over what kind of supplies you might need in case of an emergency due to incline the weather:

Enough food and water to last about 5-7 days with a can opener for canned diets
Food and water dishes
A portable carrier or crate large enough for your pet to stand and turn around easily (be sure to mark the crate with your name and phone number)
Any medications or treatments your pet may need (it is never a good idea to wait until the last minute to refill medications)
Bedding, blankets and grooming tools
Medical records (including current vaccine status), medical alerts about health or behavior (an example would be diabetic or female handlers only)
A collar with up-to-date tags and a leash
Toys and snacks
A litterbox with fresh litter for kitties or waste pick-up bags for puppies
A current photo of your pet(s)

In the event that you and your animal companion get separated during an emergency, a few facilities to check would be: Animal Care and Control, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Tri-County Humane Society, Boynton Beach Animal Control and Safe Harbor Animal Rescue. Besides checking in with local animal shelters, the sooner ‘missing pet’ posters are distributed with a current pet photo, the better your chances of getting them back home.

If you are NOT separated from your pet in the event of a hurricane, there is one pet-friendly public shelter in Palm Beach County. It is located at the West Boynton Recreation Center in Lake Worth. It is possible that pre-registration is required since space is limited so please contact your public shelter or boarding facility to find out more information.

Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic is back for Furry Friends’ Summer Fundraiser!

Jupiter FL (May 2, 2016) What can be more fun on a summer’s day than hanging at the beach and watching dogs surf! Yes, August 27, 2016 marks the 2nd Annual Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic at Carlin Park in Jupiter.

Furry Friends, a no-kill shelter and clinic in Jupiter, will once again be hosting this fabulous family event filled with food, live music, kids’ activities, vendors and of course…surfing dogs! Last year brought over 2000 attendees and this year will be even bigger.

The surfing begins at 8:30 a.m., with four heats; small, medium, and large dogs and a SUP (stand-up Surfboard) heat. You can register your pup online at www.FurryFriendsAdoption.org, but hurry as space limited. Dogs from far and wide are planning on surfing! Last year we had dog surfers from St. Pete, Merritt Island and Boynton Beach as well as our local favorites.

So your dog doesn’t surf? Furry Friends is offering surf lessons for your pooch on Jupiter beach starting in July. You can sign up for those online as well, and who knows? Maybe your puppy can be this year’s surf champion!

There is still time to be a sponsor or vendor as well. All proceeds go to operations at the shelter and it is a great opportunity to show your community support.

Boca Raton, Florida – August 17, 2016 Jon Robertson, dean of Lynn University’s Conservatory of Music and Philharmonia Guest Conductor, today invited the public to attend 14 musical performances during September and October 2016.

“Our talented students and extraordinary faculty look forward to sharing the beautiful world of music during our seventh season in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, a world-class concert hall that enhances our performing artists’ musical offerings,” said Robertson. “We will present a variety of musical offerings designed to enrich the artistic spirit and nourish the soul. Please join us in September and October as we kick-off another magnificent season.”

Tsalka was the artistic director of the Bach Festival in Beijing and co-artistic director of the Nordic Historical Keyboard Festival in Kuopio, Finland.

Based in the Wellington, Florida area, the newly launched Wellington Insider Tours offers guests an incomparable experience of touring the famous elite equestrian community and top international competitions, all in VIP style.

Known as the Winter Equestrian Capital of the World, the village of Wellington showcases world-class dressage, show jumping, and polo events throughout every winter season. Wellington Insider Tours was created by longtime equestrian and Florida native Lisa El-Ramey (Hyslop). “My idea of Wellington Insider Tours came from considering my own travel desires,” El Ramey explained. “I came to realize that what I was searching for was actually missing from my own local area! I enjoy traveling myself, and thought this would be a great way to introduce people to what so many of us ‘locals’ are fortunate enough to take for granted. After putting her ideas to paper, El-Ramey proudly launched Wellington Insider Tours, and has just officially announced its open tour dates for the 2017 season. The company currently offers two unique package tours, including a three-day Introductory Insider Tour and a five-day Luxury Insider Tour. Experienced and knowledgeable Tour Liaisons guide guests through an array of top equestrian events, with transportation and hotel accommodations included so that guests can relax and enjoy the horses.

Tour guests will enjoy a first class experience at the Global Dressage Festival, complete with dining and spirits in the VIP Pavilion during the crowd-favorite Friday Night Lights Grand Prix Dressage Freestyle competition set to music. As a United States Equestrian Federation Senior Dressage Judge herself, El-Ramey offers a unique educational opportunity for tour guests who want to learn about the movement and scoring of advanced dressage during the competition. The following evening, guests will experience the exhilarating Saturday Night Lights Grand Prix Show Jumping at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The venue’s electric atmosphere is contagious as horses conquer daunting obstacles in the ring.

Wellington Art Society Whole Foods artist

Local artist Toni Willey is the current solo artist at Wellington Whole Foods Market Café Gallery. Her paintings in the exhibit are from her “The Vanishing Series” and will be on display until the end of September. Whole Foods and Wellington Art Society will host a reception for Toni on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6:30-8 PM at the store. Whole Foods will provide delicious appetizers, wine and music for the reception. The Art Society asks for a $5 donation to go toward their Scholarship Fund. Come and enjoy a lovely start to the weekend!

Inaugural FOUNDERS Award LUNCHEON TO BE HELD AT MAYACOO LAKES COUNTY CLUB

The Western Business Alliance Will Host Its First Awards Luncheon in September

Royal Palm Beach, FL, August 15, 2016 – The Western Business Alliance will hold its inaugural Founders Awards luncheon at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club in Royal Palm Beach on Wednesday, September 21^st, starting at 11:30 AM. Tickets are $35 for members and $45 for non-members. The awards luncheon is the first of its kind for The Alliance. “I’m extremely excited for the luncheon,” said Natalie Stolbach of Barry’s Jewelry Spa and chair of the event. “We wanted to recognize those who run all sizes of business, and The Alliance is the only organization to have an award in the micro business sector for those who have one or two employees.”

The awards luncheon will recognize the achievements of The Alliance members in five different categories: businesses with over 10 employees; small businesses with 3-10 employees; micro businesses with 1-2 employees; nonprofit; and education.

The selection committee is looking for businesses who have established themselves as leaders in the community and have helped to strengthen and support fellow members of The Alliance—increasing economic growth, education and community awareness. Each nominee must meet four criteria: be a member in good standing, be actively involved in The Western Business Alliance, show how they have helped strengthen the community of TWBA businesses, and show consistent economic growth, education and community awareness.

An additional award, The Western Business Alliance Citizen of the Year Award, will be given to an individual in recognition of their community involvement. Nominees for this award do not have to be members of The Alliance.

“The Alliance has been in existence for just under 2 years and we have seen terrific growth in our membership,” explained Maureen Gross of Keller Williams Realty Wellington and TWBA Board member. “By establishing the Founders Awards, we wanted to recognize some of our member businesses that have stepped-up and interacted with fellow businesses through the Alliance, and thereby, helped strengthen the member businesses and the whole economic community.” The deadline for award nominations is Monday, August 29^th.
