Residents were treated to a free swim day at the Aquatics Center and a wide array of fun activities including slides, climbing walls, games, trapeze, live music and fireworks at Village Park. This video includes interviews with Mayor Elect Anne Gerwig (who has since taken office), Kathy Foster (1st Mayor of Wellington), Tom Wenham (2nd Mayor) and Darell Bowen (3rd Mayor). The Wellington Garden Club will meet Monday, April 4, 2016 at Village Park, located at 11700 Pierson Road.  A business meeting will start at 10:30 a.m., with a program at 12:15 p.m. on “Succulents That Work in South Florida,” presented by Alan Stopek.

Stopek, who has been professionally involved in South Florida’s nursery and landscape industries for the past 40 years, has produced a large assortment of plants with little maintenance concerns. His presentation will display photos of Agaves, Aloes, Euphorbias, and other succulents with artistic qualities.  Guests are welcome, but seating is limited. The U.S. Open Polo Championship, considered to be the most prestigious polo tournament in the world, is being played at the International Polo Club Palm Beach from April 3 through April 24. It is the exciting culmination of the 17-week, high-goal winter polo season that attracts polo enthusiasts from more than 30 countries and 50 states.

This year’s U.S. Open Polo Championship boasts eight competing teams of elite players, many of whom are regarded as the best polo players in the sport’s history. WELLINGTON, Fl, March 25, 2016 – The Jacobs Family Foundation and Nu Vista Living Wellington are pleased to announce the return of Young Art Masters to benefit local area high school art programs.

Young Art Masters 2016 features more than 40 works of art by advanced visual art students from Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Central, and John I. Leonard high schools. Each piece will be put up for bid in a 15-day online auction that begins April 1.

The students’ work includes paintings, drawings, photography, digital art, and ceramics. It will be on display at Nu Vista Living, 10330 Nu Vista Avenue, during the month of April.

Underwritten by the Jacobs Family Foundation, Young Art Masters brings acclaim to area high school art students and helps to raise thousands of dollars for the schools’ visual arts programs. Now in its third year, it provides the students with supplies to create larger, more involved pieces, enabling them to expand their own creativity.

“We believe that art is an essential part of a well-rounded education, and we’re proud to offer this opportunity to the talented students from the local Wellington-area high schools,” said Jacobs Family Foundation Board member Louis Jacobs.

Young Art Masters offers not only an opportunity to raise money for the programs, but provides the students the experience of exhibiting before an audience. The art students and their teachers will have an opportunity to discuss their artwork with guests at a reception in their honor hosted by Nu Vista Living on Thursday, April 7.

Nu Vista Living is a state-of-the-art skilled nursing community providing quality rehabilitation and skilled nursing as well as assisted living in a luxurious, lifestyle-focused environment. It is located just south of the Mall at Wellington Green.

“We were excited by the response to the art from our residents, employees and everyone who passed through our halls last year,” said Dean Tendrich, Director of Marketing for Nu Vista Living. “Art plays a role as a therapeutic tool in the healing and recovery process, so the Young Art Masters Auction enhances our rehab program as well as the environment for our assisted living residents.”

All the art will be on exhibit at Nu Vista Living during the month of April. Prior to going on display, each piece is photographed and uploaded to an online gallery at www.youngartmasterswellington.org. Proceeds from Young Art Masters are tax-deductible, and 100 percent of the money raised benefits the high schools’ visual arts program.

In addition to placing bids, individuals and local businesses can participate in the program as sponsors. For a $100 tax-deductible donation to any of the four participating high school visual arts programs in advance of the auction’s opening, an individual or local business becomes a Young Art Masters sponsor and guarantees a minimum bid on one of the art pieces.

(West Palm Beach, FL) – The littlest Broadway hopefuls will get their chance to shine this summer when the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts hosts a new performing arts training program, The Broadway Artists Intensive Junior.

The workshop, for ages 9-13, will be held July 5-9 and is a one-week introductory session based on The Broadway Artists Intensive three-week program. From 9 am to 5 pm, students will study all areas of the performing arts, with daily classes in ballet, jazz, tap, vocal technique, acting and improvisation. The Broadway Artists Intensive Junior does not require an audition, and is led by faculty who are all Broadway industry professionals.

For older students, The Broadway Artists Intensive returns with its three-week, advanced musical theater training program to be presented by award-winning faculty who have all done multiple Broadway shows. Auditions are ongoing via online video upload and a live audition will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 9:30 am at the Kravis Center, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach. A limited number of students ages 12-20 will be selected for the program. The Broadway Artists Intensive is sponsored by Marcie Gorman-Althof.

The Broadway Artists Intensive, to be held July 11-30 at the Kravis Center, will immerse the students in the three major musical theater disciplines: acting, voice and dance. Created by Broadway professionals Jason Gillman, Jackie Bayne Gillman and Greg Graham, The Broadway Artists Intensive classes will be taught by an all-Broadway faculty, including special guest artists. This year’s guest artists include Tony Award-winning Director/Choreographer Jerry Mitchell, creator of Kinky Boots, the Best Musical of 2013, and Broadway star Laura Osnes, nominated for a Tony Award for her starring role as Cinderella on Broadway.

Previous guest artists have included TV star and Tony winner Christian Borle of NBC’s Smash, Tony-nominated actress Laura Bell Bundy, Emmy Award-winning and Broadway choreographer Josh Bergasse (On the Town, So You Think You Can Dance), Broadway casting director Nora Brennan (Matilda, Billy Elliot) and TV/film/Broadway casting director Justin Huff of Telsey and Company (Newsies, Kinky Boots).

Gillman, a graduate of the University of Florida, starred opposite John Lithgow and Jonathan Pryce in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Broadway and has also performed in such Broadway productions as Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Never Gonna Dance, Annie Get Your Gun, Hello Dolly and Legally Blonde The Musical. Gillman relocated to Jupiter, FL, with his wife and Broadway veteran actress Jackie Bayne Gillman, who most recently was seen on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center.

Ms. Bayne Gillman’s additional credits include: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Ragtime, White Christmas and performing the starring role of Sugar in Some Like It Hot opposite screen legend Tony Curtis. She has worked at Goodspeed Opera (Connecticut), Pioneer Theater in Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, the El Portal in Los Angeles, ArtPark (Buffalo), Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theater (Chicago), Virginia Musical Theater, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Favorite roles include Amneris in Aida, Z’s Favorite in The Will Rogers Follies, and Charity in Sweet Charity.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Artistic Directors of The Broadway Artists Intensive to offer this new ‘Junior’ program to our community’s younger artists,” said Tracy C. PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL- The Central Palm Beach County Community Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, is hosting its Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel on Wednesday, March 30th.

YEA! is an afterschool program that transforms local middle and high school students into confident entrepreneurs and CEOs. Throughout the rigorous seven month program, students brainstorm and form enterprises, register companies with governmental agencies, and by the end, actually launch their own businesses or social movements. Students have been working on their business plans since last October and have received guidance from business mentors across a variety of industries.

At the Investor Panel, students will have five minutes to present their finalized business plans to a panel of judges, and are seeking real funding to cover their first three months of startup costs. Judges will hear from each business and then proceed to score each presentation in a private deliberation room. The panel will have $10,000 to distribute amongst the businesses. In addition, judges will select the top business to move on to the Regional Competition taking place in Rochester, New York.

“None of this would be possible without the support of all of our generous donors, especially the Co-Presenting Sponsors of our YEA! program, Florida Power & Light and the Palm Beach County School District,” stated Chamber and Foundation CEO, Mary Lou Bedford.

Film maker Monica Kallas of and producer Krista Martinelli of are pleased to announce that their short film “Meet the Wycliffe Stiffs” will be presented in the 21st Palm Beach International Film Festival.  Over 1,000 films were submitted this year and just 60 films were selected to be shown in the festival.

The festival takes place from April 6 to 14 in various theaters in Palm Beach County this year.  “We are really happy to be a part of this festival and eager to meet other film producers and directors,” says Martinelli, who just celebrated a 10th anniversary of AroundWellington.com, the online publication.

Stickball, for those not familiar with it, is a street-version of baseball.  Instead of a bat, the kids who grew up playing stickball used a broom handle.  A self-proclaimed group of “geezer jocks” in Wellington, FL, get back to their youth every week at Village Park.  Most of them come from the different boroughs of New York, mainly from Brooklyn.  The entire league comes from Wycliffe Golf and Country Club.  They enjoy re-creating the good, old days, including using the broom handle, drinking the egg creams, and most of all, enjoying the camaraderie.

Commissioner of the Wycliffe Stiffs Marty Ross says, with a twinkle in his eye, “You’ve picked a fantastic subject for your film!” In general, the group is an unusually energetic bunch of seniors, who love getting together and playing on the pavement that has been recently re-named Stickball Blvd. in Village Park.  While their youngest stickball player is Sean Siegrist, the average stickball players are all in their senior years.

There are two screenings of the short film planned.  “Meet the Wycliffe Stiffs” can be seen Saturday, April 9th at 2:15pm and Tuesday, April 12th at 11am, both at G-Star School of the Arts, located at 2030 S Congress Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33406.  The film will be shown in a grouping of other documentary shorts.  For the full schedule, visit the PBIFF link,   For tickets, visit their .  For more information, visit

Wellington joins communities across the globe in the Relay For Life movement to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Relay for Life Wellington takes place on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Palm Beach Central High School (8499 Forest Hill Blvd, Wellington, FL).

The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to fight every cancer in every community, with four million participants in 6,000 events worldwide in 2015.
