New Year’s Resolutions

January, 2016 – New Year’s Resolutions, Making Them Happen

 IMG_4666

Happy January!  As you know, January is usually a time of New Year’s resolutions and getting serious about weight loss, wellness and achievements.

Our family went to a nice New Year’s Eve party, where the three kids in the family greeted us at the door.  They asked us to write our names and our New Year’s resolutions on name tags.  Good idea!  It gets people talking.  Planning.  Thinking.

My main goal is to “put fun first” in 2016.  There were other resolutions “walking around the room” – de-cluttering, weight loss, finding a new job.  My silly 8-year-old son put some thought into it and wrote, “My goal is to turn nuclear waste into a children’s toy.”  OK, good luck with that project!  (And maybe wear some rubber gloves?  At least?)

We all have goals – some of them funny and some of them dead-serious.  But many people give up and give in right in the first month of the year, January.  I found a sales training talk by Jack Daly (that someone had lent to me) very helpful regarding goal setting.  I listened to it while driving for a few days and was impressed with Daly’s level of goal setting and achieving.  Check out some of his goals on his website, for example – http://www.jackdaly.net/my-life-by-design/  For one thing, he plans to run a marathon in all fifty states.  One of his strategies is to plan out his goals per month and then drill down to per week.  He also picks four or five trusted friends, who will check in on him once a month, just to ask, “How is this goal coming along?”  The main take-away is to take your goals seriously – whatever they are.  Even if the goal is having fun!

I’m excited to say that AroundWellington.com, as a publication, will turn ten years old in February of this year!  We’ve seen a lot of talent, in terms of writers, photographers and our videographer.  We’ve also been blessed with wonderful local businesses, who support AroundWellington as advertisers.  And thanks to you, dear readers, for giving me feedback and always staying engaged.

I’m also happy to say that the Village of Wellington turns 20 years old in March of this year.  There was a celebration breakfast on the lawn of the Wellington Amphitheater on December 31st.  See the photo gallery by Carol Porter.

This month please check out our “AW Spotlight” article about Cricket Cleaners.  Read about their ethical approach to dry cleaning.  Also, check out all of our January articles.  Plenty of great material!

THANKS as always!

CCH Lays Foundation with ‘Pave the Way’ Campaign

January, 2016- CCH Lays Foundation with ‘Pave the Way’ Campaign
Agency serves critical purpose of assisting with durable medical equipment needs

West Palm Beach – January 12, 2016 – With its expanded facility scheduled to open this fall, Clinics Can Help (CCH), a West Palm Beach-based nonprofit that provides free, durable medical equipment, is laying a foundation of thanks.

This month, CCH announces its “Pave the Way” campaign, a commemorative brick walkway at the entrance of the new building that will raise funds towards the renovation of its new facility which will be located at 2560 Westgate Avenue in West Palm Beach and will enable the organization to meet the growing need for its services. Each donor will be recognized with an engraved brick paver with customized lettering.

“Our ‘Pave the Way’ campaign will serve as a visible and long-lasting tribute to people who share our mission of helping thousands of local children and adults regain and maintain their dignity and independence,” said Clinics Can Help Brick Paver Campaign Chair Adam Lacey. “While the official kickoff of the campaign has just begun we’ve already had a number of supporters purchase their bricks in anticipation of our opening. We welcome anyone who wants to support Clinics Can Help by purchasing a paver between now and early summer.”

CCH’s “Pave the Way” campaign offers three levels of tribute: Sponsor, Legacy and Executive. At the $50 Sponsor Level, the donor’s name will appear on the walkway; at the $100 Legacy Level, the donor will be recognized with a 4” x 8” brick paver with up to three lines of customized lettering; and at the $250 Executive Level, the donor will be recognized with an 8” x 8” brick paver with up to six lines of customized lettering.

For more information about CCH and the “Pave the Way” campaign, please visit www.clinicscanhelp.org or call 561-640-2995.

ABOUT CLINICS CAN HELP
Clinics Can Help, a grass roots organization founded by Owen O’Neill, a local hospice nurse, started in 2005 by providing wheelchairs and hospital beds to patients in need. Owen O’Neill, Executive Director remembers seeing patients leave the hospital and return soon after a fall at home which resulted in a broken hip. He knew that access to hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers and shower chairs could have easily meant the difference between being at home or returning to the hospital or even life or death. While working in homecare, he was amazed at how much easier the right medical equipment made patients’ lives.

And since its inception, CCH has never strayed from this mission of providing medical equipment to children and adults in need. During its decade of service, CCH has served over 8,000 clients with the provision of more than $4 million worth of medical equipment.

Today with a dedicated staff and cadre of volunteers, Clinics Can help assists children and adults throughout Palm Beach County. In the past twelve months CCH assisted over 1,800 clients by donating over $700,000 worth of recycled medical equipment. For additional information, please call Clinics Can Help at (561) 640-2995 or www.clinicscanhelp.org. Clinics Can Help is located at 1550 Latham Rd., Unit #10 in West Palm Beach.

“Equipment needs for a family with a special needs child can be so expensive that even a family with very good insurance can have difficulty obtaining the needed equipment. Insurance companies will not cover both a wheelchair and an adaptive transit stroller,” said O’Neill. “We look forward to 10 more years of helping families and providing children with the chance for greater socialization skills; better attendance at school; and dignity, mobility and independence.”

For families in search of medical equipment, such as hospital beds, motorized wheelchairs, nebulizers and walkers, CCH remains the vital resource in Palm Beach County. CCH remains the only organization of its kind in Florida and one of only three in the U.S. that provides this critical assistance.
