The Rotary Club of Wellington to Pay – Off Students’ School Food Service Overdrawn Account Balances

The Palm Beach County School District’s National School Lunch program is available to all students; however, from time to time families may not have the funds to pay for meals.   Families may apply for free or reduced meal benefits throughout the year on the School Food Service website (www.palmbeachschools.org/sfs).  Benefits are determined based on income level and family size.  Those families receiving SNAP benefits are automatically approved to receive free meals.

In the case where a family has not been approved for benefits, the full price of $2.05 for elementary and $2.30 for secondary is expected at the time the meal is served.  Occasionally, students do not have the appropriate funds for their meal, and School Food Service has a charge policy when families are not able to pay and not all families are able to repay the money.

It is for this reason that The Rotary Club of Wellington has graciously offered to pay off the entire outstanding amount of lunch balances, which may be approximately $20,000.00.

The Rotary club will present a check at the School Board Meeting on Wednesday November 15, 2017.  Members of the Rotary club will be in attendance to present the check.

This generous payoff is possible due to the money the club won in this year’s Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments and Equestrian Sports Productions the owners of the International Equestrian Center in Wellington, which is the winter home of equestrian sports in the USA. The Great Charity Challenge is an annual event which has so far distributed over $10M to area charities.

Members of the public are invited to attend this meeting and check presentation at Palm Beach School Board District Offices at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
