Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches Celebrates 15 Years of Expanding Opportunities for Women and Children

0

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) On Wednesday, December 13, a full room of supporters – both women and men – will raise a glass to 15 years of improving the lives of women and children by the independent nonprofit Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches (JWF). The annual luncheon, aptly named Imagine the Possibilities three years ago, encourages guests to envision a world where women and children all over the globe can be safe and successful. To provide proof that it is possible, this year’s luncheon will feature local grantee partners – The Lord’s Place and Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County– and local students who participate in the Foundation’s “No Small Change” program. Taking place at The Colony, and starting at 11:30 a.m., the event will honor trustee Sandra Krakoff.

“This is truly a special luncheon for us, and for so many reasons,” said Tami Baldinger, JWF CEO. “We will reflect on the founding of JWF and our incredible success over the years – including giving more than $2.5 million in grants. As we look ahead to the future, we know the elevated issues in the world require our voices to change the systems, attitudes and behaviors that still create barriers to equality and justice for so many women.”

Lisa Schneider, founding trustee and event chair added, “There is still much work to be done. We invite all people to stand up and support women and their families by partnering with us to create meaningful and lasting change. We know that when women and girls are supported, the entire community benefits – men and boys included. This year’s luncheon will highlight the impact JWF has made in our local community, when we hear from people whose lives have been changed by our grants, education and leadership development programs.”

As part of its mission, JWF funds projects that have long-term effects for societal change on local, national and international levels. In 2016, JWF allocated more than $400,000 in grants. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies received a grant from JWF for $20,000-per-year for two years for its Circle of Wellness Maternal Mental Health project. Earlier this year, The Lord’s Place, Inc. received a grant for its new Gender Responsive Opportunities for Women (GROW) Initiative. The grant is for $15,500 a year for two years and to increase the integration of gender responsive tools and strategies.

In addition, students from the Foundation’s year-old “No Small Change” program will also present at the luncheon. “No Small Change” is the first ever co-ed philanthropic leadership program teaching teens strategic grant making through a gender lens. Participants, who will be future community leaders, learn about Jewish values with respect to gender equality, social justice, philanthropy, grant making, advocacy and more. The teens earn 75 hours of volunteer service for their involvement.

Along with Schneider, Richard Comiter and Beth Wayne are serving as co-chairs. Krakoff is being honored as one of the founding trustees and for her continued support and leadership of women’s rights. Sydell Miller, well-known philanthropist and advocate for women, will speak in honor of Krakoff.

Sponsors-to-date include: Eileen Berman and Jay Bauer, Arlene Bearman, Barbara Mines, Sydelle Sonkin, Shirley Siff, the Leonard & Judy Lauder Fund, Evelyn & Arthur, Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated, TD Wealth, Jewish Federation of PB County, U.S. Bank.

Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches is a nonprofit grant making and advocacy organization established to improve the lives of women and girls. Guided by Jewish values, JWF advocates for advancing all women and girls, and funds projects that have long-term effects for societal change on local, national and international levels by placing an unwavering focus on the root cause of issues. An inclusive organization, JWF welcomes members of all beliefs and genders who believe that when women and girls are empowered, the entire community benefits.

Tickets are $150 and sponsorships are still available. To purchase tickets, or for more information about JWF, please call Miriam Laing at 561-275-2200 or email her at miriam@jwfpalmbeach.org. The Colony is located at 155 Hammon Ave, Palm Beach, FL 33480.

Wycliffe Approves $18.1 Million Clubhouse Renovation

WYCLIFFE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB IN WELLINGTON, FLA., APPROVES $18.1 MILLION CLUBHOUSE RENOVATION PLAN

WELLINGTON, FLORIDA; November 9, 2017 – 81% of the voting membership at Wycliffe Golf & Country Club in Wellington, Fla., approved a comprehensive renovation plan scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018. The goal achieved was to develop a master plan that balances the needs of the community with that of the next generation of members.  New amenities and upgraded facilities include a new signature restaurant, a lobby bar & lounge, refurbished banquet room, complete spa and fitness center renovation and outdoor pool pavilion with additional soft seating and deck space.

“Research has shown us that the next generation of club members is somewhat different from those who purchased this type of lifestyle 10-20 years ago and are looking for more resort-style amenities with an emphasis on fitness and well-being,” said Doug Lipman, president of the club’s Board of Directors.  “Our current membership understands that we need new members to continue our lifestyle. In order to do that, we need to appeal to the changing demographics of members who are in the position to buy into country club living. Achieving that goal is our vision for this project.”

“The overwhelming response from our members supporting this renovation was astounding,” said Rob Martin, COO and General Manager of Wycliffe Golf & Country Club.  “Our team is enthusiastic about the upgraded amenities and we know this renovation will put us in a competitive position to attract new members and enhance the lifestyle of our current population.”

The process assimilated over several years of member feedback and surveys and over 30 member information sessions.  The overall project will begin in the spring of 2018 with completion in the fall of 2019. “When coming up with this plan it was important for us to factor in minimal disruption of member activities and services throughout the renovation so our members can maintain the social life they have come to know and love at Wycliffe,” said Martin.

“This improvement plan is a win-win for everyone. With financing at historical lows we have been able to provide a financing plan for our members that has little to no impact on current payments,” said Lipman.

Design partners for this project include Glidden Spina + Partners, Image Design, WGI and CBRE.

The Rotary Club of Wellington to Pay – Off Students’ School Food Service Overdrawn Account Balances

The Rotary Club of Wellington to Pay – Off Students’ School Food Service Overdrawn Account Balances

The Palm Beach County School District’s National School Lunch program is available to all students; however, from time to time families may not have the funds to pay for meals.   Families may apply for free or reduced meal benefits throughout the year on the School Food Service website (www.palmbeachschools.org/sfs).  Benefits are determined based on income level and family size.  Those families receiving SNAP benefits are automatically approved to receive free meals.

In the case where a family has not been approved for benefits, the full price of $2.05 for elementary and $2.30 for secondary is expected at the time the meal is served.  Occasionally, students do not have the appropriate funds for their meal, and School Food Service has a charge policy when families are not able to pay and not all families are able to repay the money.

It is for this reason that The Rotary Club of Wellington has graciously offered to pay off the entire outstanding amount of lunch balances, which may be approximately $20,000.00.

The Rotary club will present a check at the School Board Meeting on Wednesday November 15, 2017.  Members of the Rotary club will be in attendance to present the check.

This generous payoff is possible due to the money the club won in this year’s Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments and Equestrian Sports Productions the owners of the International Equestrian Center in Wellington, which is the winter home of equestrian sports in the USA. The Great Charity Challenge is an annual event which has so far distributed over $10M to area charities.

Members of the public are invited to attend this meeting and check presentation at Palm Beach School Board District Offices at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
